I'm probably the strongest proponent of emulators here at AA. Aside from the actual developers that take time to make such awesome sauce.

Emulators are magical. Emulators are elegant. Reliable, versatile, consistent, convenient. They have the capability to transcend time itself. When the last vintage VCS is turned off for the final time, there'll be thousands of emulators humming away. Carrying the flag forward for decades to come. Even centuries even!

Some are better than others.

I prefer real metal, but a good emulator is close enough for me most times.

Goes without saying BUT that said, they have their place and while they CAN be bad (poorly optimized, bad emulation) they can also often ENHANCE games with better textures, higher resolutions etc. Also, they can be cheap and very convenient compared to the "real thing" and all one to experience a platform in some form at least that they might not otherwise be able to. In short, they come a long way and are not going anywhere.
