  1. When a piece of software tries to be all things to all people, it usually ends up as a bloated mess of problems.

Faintly reminds me of the trend of making so many games "open-world" for the past decade.

  3. I do have a question for anyone that owns one... does the TI-99/8 work with the FinalGROM and TIPI?
  4. According to Ninerpedia 150, but I think I've heard only 50 working ones are known to exist, which may be in error. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable on the matter like @Ksarul will jump in. I've seen a couple show up on eBay over the years, but I'm not even in the running at the prices they go for.
  5. I'd love to see one of these under my tree, but sadly they are out of my reach... I love the Christmas feel of this image though! Do you have a want you'll probably never see?
  6. On another note, since no official label has been released, @ti99iuc hasn't made one, and I was not artistically inspired, I ripped off the opening screen, juggled a couple of items and ended up with this... it works for me! 👍 I enjoy the hobby aspects of making my own.
  7. I know "I'll*" never own one, because out of the box it has too many strikes against it to have any appeal to "me". Strike one -- It's big and would take up too much desk area to keep hooked up. (I simply don't have the room). Strike two -- There is very little available for it. (Which means it would get little to no use at all). Strike three -- They sell for too damn much. (The cost to benefit ratio sucks). So.... YER OUT! *I acknowledge some people like to collect for the sake of collecting and have plenty of money to throw around, I'm not one of them.
  8. For me, this instance is really in a different category. After reading the thread @arcadeshopper linked to, the guy has gone through hell recently leading up to and including the loss of his wife. Setting the game aside, I had no problem donating a little, the more I thought about it, the more it seemed like the right thing.
  9. Why not have it check for the existence of a configuration file? If no file exists, load DSK1.LOAD as normal, if it's there, it can have any number of options. EDIT. Never mind, I replied before I got down to the last message in the thread that said you'll keep it as is.
  10. Being an avid TI-99/4A owner, I can attest to the fact that the basic console by itself sucks big time, in fact it's nearly worthless. However with a TIPI/32K with an inexpensive Raspberry Pi ZERO installed... ... and with a FinalGROM (multicart) installed you'll be able to 99.5% of everything.

Don't hit over 65535 post. Rumor has it that it rolls over to zero and the overflow flag might do some destruction.

  12. Good idea, I'll do that as soon as I get a cart made up with a label.
  13. Has the Borzork cartridge end label been released to the community yet, or has anyone made one? I'm trying to maintain the... ... but I notice it's lacking ANY label for Borzork, which in my humble opinion deserves it's own cartridge! This image simply does not cut the mustard as it's so low quality and I don't know if the author would even approve of using the official one in any capacity.
  14. Here ya go! Sorry about the size, but I figured you would want all the detail.
  15. Considering the age in which our little computer was designed, the types of storage media available back then, and the fact that it was marketed as a 'relatively' low priced 'Home Computer', it's served quite well.
  16. HA! A miss-conception of the design.. imagine a wheel where the cartridge labels are like tread and the part that fits in the TI is where all the cartridges converge together around a spindle no bigger around than your pinky finger.
  17. Yeah, I admit it, I can be no fun (at times). Thing is, going full literal at the moment, if this even has the slimmest chance of coming to fruition, the unit cost has to be low enough that people can afford to buy it, the maker needs some incentive (money/profit). So after all the time invested to design and print, the market would have to support an unknown number of sales to make it all worthwhile. This is why I'm doubtful, but hey, nothing ventured nothing gained.
  18. My thoughts are for a simple cartridge holder, nothing more. The guys here have made some terrific games and cartridges over the years, stuff I actually play, so hell, I wanna show em off too. This would do the trick quite nicely.
  19. .... as per the example below. This was meant to be played as small as possible. (I had to crunch it to save space on AtariAge). MR. Chin.mp4
  20. Wow, that is one old message! It does give a new meaning to the word, "eventually" though! 😀
