Nearly a decade ago, I got my hands on a version of Classic 99, and that was it, I was sucked back into the TI-world, eventually to go overboard. Now, there are many emulators out there and quite frankly I'll probably stick with Classic 99 for my emulator needs until the day I die. However earlier this year I've toyed with various TRS-80 emulators like trs80gp which like Classic 99 is very good for the PC under Windows. I also got my hands on a copy an emulator for the RPi 3 that is amazing in that it follows the K.I.S.S. principle (Keep It Simple Stupid). You turn on the RPi and within 10 seconds you are at the DOS prompt just like a regular TRS-80 booting from diskette. Anyway this got me thinking, if there was a TI emulator like that for the RPi that could function like a TIPI to call the BBS, send files to and do everything else from an SD card image ready to burn and use it could hook a fair number of people. A spare RPi 3 functioning as a dedicated TRS-80 machine.

Greg, I really have to thank you for turning me on to this program. This makes it SUPER FREAKIN EASY to turn a 32K image into a 512K for the UberGROM. 1) Drag and Drop 8 times & convert. 2) Drag and drop the new 256 image two more times and convert... DONE! The whole process takes less than a minute. I still verify the 512K images in Classic 99 before burning, but damn, this is much better than the old way. I highly recommend this program for anyone with a burner like the MiniPRO. I may have to buy a couple more UberGROM's this coming January. Couldn't wait, just bought two more from Ksarul... Merry Christmas to myself.

For some strange reason I get a better score using Classic 99 than I do with "Real Iron", weird!

Best Classic Computer for Word Processing TODAY
Omega-TI replied to doug0909's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Yeah, I really loved this program. It also worked with other programs and 'automagically' imported the text from other applications. Back when I still did packet radio I used it for years as my editor of choice when writing or replying to messages. I especially liked the dictionary and how easy it was to add words. Up until I got my new computer with Windows 10 I still had a functioning copy. -
If I can find the time this week, I may do a "Retro Comparison" video between Meteor Mission 2 for the TRS-80 and @Retrospect's Lunar Mission 2 for the TI.

TI-99 Photos Thread! Post your systems here!
Omega-TI replied to slinkeey's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
I've started a new ALBUM for high resolution TI related images (6K X 4K) of whatever tickles my fancy to photograph at the time. There are only a few photos 'now', but it'll grow as time marches on. I hope you like the pics. -
Best Classic Computer for Word Processing TODAY
Omega-TI replied to doug0909's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
For DOS based PC I would go with Professional Write it was simple and easy to use. If you want to go with a later word processor, like for Windows 3.11, AmiPRO 3.0 << AVAILABLE HERE >> was my favorite for years until WORD came out and later improved. Of course you may have issues with printer drivers if you are using a recent printer. -
From the title of the thread I was getting excited, thanks for posting the clarification, you saved me a lot of time.

I will tell you this, your version is a hell of a lot harder to play! I need more practice! It is kinda neat that on your version all of them turn into UFO's instead of only few. I re-did the new version and have attached the 512K UberGROM version below for those who want it. I got a new glue stick and finished the cartridge. LM8.BIN
-
With the updated version, looks like I'm going to have to re-burn. So, once the new EA/5's get converted to 32K -8 cartridge format, I'll take it the rest of the way and make another 512K UberGROMable image out of it.
-
RAT FARTS! I was so close, apparently I'm out of glue stick, so I'll have to wait for tomorrow after work to finish the job.
-
THANKS @arcadeshopper! That program is pretty slick and it works great! Now I just have to get this in a beige shell and and slap Ciro's label on it! LM-8.BIN
-
It'll be cool to have this on the TI, I really like the TRS-80 version.

I need help (don't laugh), seriously. It's been so long since I've replicated a 32KB image to 512K to burn into a AT49F040 that I've forgotten how to do it. I've also seem to have lost my "cheat sheet". Anyway I want to pull my burner out and make a beige cartridge for this game. Could someone please post the instructions for the replication? Thanks! @ti99iuc great job on the label!

Ahh, looks like there are safe alternatives though.... -
Infected downloadables on FujiNet

I don't even know what "fujinet.online is, but I thought I'd check it, and McAfee just calls it, "suspicious". What exactly goes on there? -
I've been playing around with my beige system and really notice the pronounced "rainbow effect" put out by the 9918. Back in the old CRT days I just thought it was because of the display technology, but it shows up on a modern flat screen too. Ahh the good old days!

Commodore 64's and the thug life? (Via Hollywood)
Omega-TI replied to Omega-TI's topic in Commodore 8-bit Computers
It's not the Cops or government we really have to worry about, it's all the big tech companies that Hoover every bit of your personal information to make a buck. Also some of these APPS people use 'for free' are no better than Trojan Horses encapsulating privacy sucking code. I keep my schedule on my TI-99/4A not because I'm doing anything illegal or shady, it's simply because I don't trust Google or Microshaft. For example, say you look up some medical condition for a friend or family member, and that information gets recorded somewhere. Years later when you go shopping for a life insurance policy, BAM, that information may be inappropriately used and you may have higher rates than you should. Or for the conspiracy types, everything you've ever written on social media may be taken out of context and used against you someday or you may be targeted by someone just because you've associated with some unknown person online who is on someone's bad list. -
The idea for this thread comes for another members praise of their grandma... Did your Mom or Grandma ever make you a fancy dust cover for your classic computer? While I was never lucky enough to get a custom made one, I know some lucky guys that were. Were you one of the lucky ones? If so, please show off your Moms or Grandmas handiwork!
-
They are! I've heard stories of grandma's making some really neat dust covers over the decades for many different classic computer systems. It's amazing what older ladies can do with a little fabric, needle and thread. Hmmm, you've given me an idea for a new thread.

Add-ons that FAILED for the various "Classic Computers".
Omega-TI replied to Omega-TI's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't ALL light pens pretty much worthless these days unless you are using an old antiquated CRT monitor? -
I've not had a chance to see if this actually follows this version, but...
