How I got left-handed non-Atari joysticks to become Atari right-handers
Omega-TI replied to ave1's topic in Atari 2600
Nice to see I'm not the only one who thinks left-handed sticks are unnatural. -
One thing about a hobby, whether it's a car hobby or a computer hobby, we are always tinkering or adding on stuff. I know a lot of you guys here on Atari Age with your Apples, Atari's, TRS-80's and other computers have been tinkering too! So let's see a time-line OF YOUR SYSTEM (in pictures) covering the last couple of years. I'll start off... JULY 2013 -- Shortly after I got back into "Real Iron" January 2014 -- After I got the P-Box February 2015 -- A year ago... January 2016 -- Present Day I wonder what it'll look like next year? Okay, YOUR TURN!

Chris, I'm really impressed with your new toy Chris.. even had to wipe a little drool off my chin. I could justify popping for the new SCSI to SD converter, cabling and the SD card, because all are within reason price-wise. A SSHD has been a dream of mine for a couple of years now, but I doubt I'll ever be able to follow in your footsteps. Why? Because the legacy SCSI boards are too rare and pricey for me, and since I don't see an affordable, modern, reverse-engineered option available... well... crap!

(Hardware) Project of the 'calendar quarter'
Omega-TI replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
I am so behind schedule with projects, I've not yet cracked open one of the spare TI's to start this yet. Has anyone yet completed it? If so, any photos to share? -
Only two more questions... I could not read the number for the other IC chip on the board, is it a buffer of some sort? I notice the original card shown above also had audio. Any plans to address that?

Well I'll be, I did not know that it used the TMS9918... FREAKIN' EXCELLENT! I guess the Apple folks are in for one hell of a fun ride! I bet there will eventually be more than just a few who 're-visit' the old programs, or even start writing new ones! AWESOME! ( CLICK ON IMAGE TO ENLARGE ) I'm betting YES, that people will flock to it. VGA monitors are a 'dime-a-dozen' and can be had very cheaply, they also have better visuals and take up a lot less space than those old CRT's. Now if you plan to hook it up to your 80" LED TV you could do that too!

Cool! It'll be interesting to watch this over the next couple of years to see what this does to the Apple II community. I know for the TI, which already had color, the sharpness of VGA graphics was just mind boggling. Now more people use the F18A than any other video output method. Please let me know when it's working and a video is available,

It looks like it's supposed to be plug in card for the Apple, but with a place to socket an F18A video board. This is an intriguing idea, but would it be compatible? Will this start fights?

Davvel, That is a good and interesting question! It's a little hard to take a current census of 'active' TI users because of Lurkers and little pockets of foreign speaking users from places like South America and Europe that do not make their presence known here at Atari Age. There are a few people who hang out in other places like the Yahoo site and since I've never been a Facebook person I have no clue how many different users may be there. To make an 'educated guess' one would have to ask for more input I suppose. For starters, << this old poll >> can instantly bring the number to 64. But then again we would have to also ask people like Ciro how many people belong to his group in Italy as well a people who attend the group in Austria and other places. If I were to make a "GUESSTIMATE" I'd say between 70 & 150 currently active users, not all at Atari Age, but I could easily be way off! Anyone one else want to come in an help narrow the numbers down a bit for Davvel?

Best Classic Computer to keep investing in.
Omega-TI replied to simbalion's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
^^ Excellent post! Sadly I'm in agreement about the TI part too. TI wanted to keep control, while the had documentation, it was not exactly designed for the average consumer (Editor/Assembler Manual). There were third party books and stuff that came out later though and that helped. While the TI was crippled, it was my first computer, so I will ALWAYS have a soft-spot for it, no matter how irrational that may be so some folks. -

Any update on the Nano enclosure status?
-
I still think it would be nice if a 3D printed enclosure could be made for your board...
-
I used "SUPER U" on the TRS-80 Model III to make backups of some TI software I purchased that did not want to be copied on the TI. That software was amazing nothing stopped it.

I chose to make this one anonymous as the topic has the potential to be divisive. I also figured more people might participate if they could EASILY express their opinion for all to see, without having to take the time to write a long message. It's a common enough practice, we vote privately every election. The interesting thing about polls, one never knows what the results will be ahead of time, but if a large enough majority becomes evident, it can sometimes make a strong point.

I'll play around a little tonight, I don't have enough time to get into a project I really need to finish, so I'll play around with this a little and see what happens. I can easily make multiple disk images in case of a "mission impossible scenario" of a self-destruct.

there now...

Schmitzi, I'll have to check your file out after dinner tonight. I found this XB LOAD file on another FREDDY.DSK found on the TI Game Shelf that I thought might work after changing the load file name. Something I had planned on before I found your recent post. LOAD.zip

Schmitzi, << HERE >> is the link, you can save it in your favorites for quick access. Chris, I would not mind using it on the other monitor (like shown below), but it would require me to sign in to Google every time. I prefer to only be signed into one thing at a time. If it's not being abused, would it be possible to just use it without having to go through an additional sign-in?
