OT: How to disable annoying Widows 10 upgrade nag box
Omega-TI replied to Willsy's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Marketing guys can be over zealous at times. One has to take what they say with a gain of salt and realize they have different motivations and interests than the end user, most of which are monetary. My copy of Windoze 7 is stable, so if it's not broken, why the hell 'fix it'.... and invite potential headaches? -
Yep, that's what I found. You know what would be 'REAL NICE'... a loader a guy could use from BOOT or the new 9640 Menu System.

Thanks! I'll get this over to a DSSD 80 track image on R.I. tomorrow with other stuff and see what happens.

Cool! I'd love to have a copy of your modified version. When I get time, I need to make up a new "HQ Games" disk/image. I removed the Rasmus games from it because there was no need to double up on them since his fancy 8-IN-1 cartridge .BIN was released.

BITD this program was total eye candy and raised seemed to raise the bar of expectations. Thinking back though, there is one thing that comes to mind that I did not like. I seem to recall you could NOT put it on a disk with other programs.

Yeah, he's had some great ideas. I wonder what he'll come up with next?

Discussion about what to call a TI-99/4A with F18A
Omega-TI replied to Asmusr's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
I agree! We have great diversity here, which I think is a great strength. In that diversity, over the past couple of months, I've seen things for TI-BASIC, Extended BASIC, Assembly and both Forth's. I've seen stuff for cassette based systems as well expanded systems.. Most of the new programs have been staying within the confines of '9918 territory', with only a very small percentage being specifically written for the F18A . I've seen people state their intentions to remain 'stock' as well. All is good, the tent is big enough for all of us and the result is more software for a wider audience. While some run Geneve's and others legacy 80 column cards, both of those groups have been fortunate enough to have had enhanced software for quite some time. With the F18A, the rest of us, who were unable to obtain the rare stuff, or in some cases even afford it, are just now beginning to enjoy the luxury of some really cool stuff too. Bring it ALL on! -

You've hit one one of my favorite aspects of the TI. I love to see all the different configurations of TI's out there. This system is perfectly suited for one to express their individuality. It's like you can get 10 TI'ers together, but have a dozen different configurations! The math doesn't add up, but the enjoyment sure does. COntrast that with systems like the TRS-80 Model III and they all seem rather uniform and BORING. Systems change over time too. How many of you have systems that do not even resemble what they looked like only 2 or 3 years ago? I truly believe one of the reasons this forum is so popular and the TI is so exciting is because of all the talented guys that keep the TI 'fresh' with fancy new hardware and software. For the most part this is a pretty people friendly place too where people help each other and we don't have constant flame wars like other places I've seen over the years. -
Best Classic Computer to keep investing in.
Omega-TI replied to simbalion's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Cool! That means my TI-99/4A is going to be worth a veritable gold mine! TI didn't just stop making them, the dropped it like a hot potato and got out of that segment of the market altogether. In essence the TI is the quintessential orphan computer. That's gotta be worth an additional sum of money (judging from Ebait pricing). -
ROFL! I guess I don't have a /4A then because in the few years I've had this TI unit it just occurred to me I've NOT had that issue. Weird.

Hmmmm time of an ANONYMOUS poll... -
You mounted a USB device in an extra cartridge case? BRILLIANT! I'll probably rip off your idea when I get a chance. It'll be harder to lose my TI stuff, and it's perfect as TI stuff belongs on cartridge. Do you have a parts list and pictures of the internals?

I understand where you are coming from and I agree from the standpoint that it's more than just a speech enhancement because of all the non-compatible extra features in provides the user. I'm not sure if renaming the console could be confusing to a newbie or not, because most of us that have been here for a while and take a lot of this stuff as common knowledge . The consumer electronics industry uses standardized logos so the consumer does not get confused with compatibility issues. If it has the matching logo, you are GOOD TO GO. The reason I made the little icons was because it' appears to be a tried and true method for ensuring compatibility without confusion from the consumers perspective. Maybe if I changed the logos coloring? Like RED for required and BLUE for enhanced, no logo at all would of couese mean it's not even an issue. -

I see this from a different perspective. When I got into PC's, I upgraded from CGA to EGA and then to VGA shortly after that. To me a PC is a PC, the video card does not seem to change that in my mind. I guess that's why the video does not seem to change things to me on the TI. I really respect the way Matthew made this card 100% compatible with all existing software, while at the same time giving us all some exciting new capabilities to keep things fresh and exciting. -

Probably because of << THIS >> article... Oh, and while this article is cool and would easily facilitate Tursi's PS/2 keyboard connector and the F18A's video connector... I personally cannot bring myself to go this route. I'm not a purist, but there is just something about the original P-Box and console that 'does it' for me. So while I'm like a retro-mod car guy, I'll put in a new transmission, disk brakes, stereo or whatever... BUT I'M KEEPING THE BODY ORIGINAL! -

OLD CS1 came up with the solution back in December of 2013... As for the software labels or documentation, you can always slap on a couple of designation icons... -
