  1. Talk about CHEAP! I need to do some some transferring of stuff to a CF card, but cannot find my USB gadget for the life of me, so instead of wasting any more time, on like the 34th attempt, I said, "The heck with it", and decided to spend the approximate $25.00 bucks for another one... only to be shocked at how CHEAP You can get one with postage included... ... for a $1.49! No kidding! << Check it out! >> So if you need a CF card reader for something like a Nano-PEB, now is your chance to get one dirt-cheap, most of them have already been sold. Cheap Chinese Crap (CCC) it's good if it works! We'll see.
  2. << HERE'S ONE >> What would be 'kind of cool' is a thread here on Atari Age where the PDF of every TI-99/4A microchip is located.
  3. Purely for educational and drooling purposes, might I humbly suggest making a ... ... so the rest of us poor slobs can see what we're missing?
  4. Hey, this TWISTED little Xmas diddy gave me a laugh. Maybe it'll give you a chuckle too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpTRZ3hDGt4
  5. Oh, RAT FARTS! I've had no time to do ANY projects lately, but the ONE THING that I did do, when I managed to shoe-horn in a couple of minutes .... was to prep my 74LS21. Now it looks like I may need to buy another if this board project comes to fruition. Good thing it's a 'quarterly' project. I do have a question though. Where under the 'clam shell' do you plan to attach and secure this board? Will it fit?
  6. Well, here is part of the problem... The solution? Just dump everything non-TI and you'll have no need to divide your time!
  7. Please everyone, feel free to post HOW you do all this stuff. In the new year I'm going to want to try this out, but at this point I don't even know if my DSL/IP offers this capability. I've been using a log-in service for years and have not had to mess with stuff.
  8. Hell yeah! From the communications side of things, it's looking so bright we need shades. 80 column communications programs like TIMXT and a totally neat Internet Browser on cartridge, and now apparently Email capability... all on our TI's. Wow, just wow. I just wish I had more time to play with this stuff right now.
  9. You might need to ask arcadeshopper.... Currently it shows him out of stock << HERE >> But he still has one Uber Card board listed << HERE >> So if he still has an Atmega 1284P on hand, there is a chance you could still get one sooner than later. GOOD LUCK!

    Top of NanoPEB Case

Nice! It's really great to see someone take some initiative and make things for the betterment of the TI- Community.
  11. I doubt I could get along without Ti99Dir and DM2K myself. When you think about it, the stuff we take for granted because of Fred's tools is amazing. Can you imagine being a kid with a TI and no direct contact with other TI'ers via phone or Internet? Without a PC the kid does not even have a way to transfer a program from one CF card to another. THAT truly sucks!
  12. It's an odd situation here, stuff we take for granted like a PC in the house or even a land-line phone are non-existent in this case. At the present time the kid has no way to transfer or backup anything, which is why I was thinking of the cartridge route. The only reason the kid was allowed to have the TI was because of it's educational aspects/cartridges... (Home schooled)/ I've decided to send along one of my spare CF cards (with some goodies on it) next time I see his Dad.
  13. I agree, but the kids parents are kinda weird. They have no Internet, no TV, and the kids are home-schooled. I only see the guy on a semi-monthly basis when he comes though town on business. True, but that's not exactly practical considering the odd situation, and like I said, I don't plan to be responsible for it, because I know how easy it is to FUBAR a Nano's CF card. Oh well, this kids on his own!
  14. 20 FCTN (UP ARROW) or FCTN "E". For the most part the XB2.7S booklet only covers additional stuff not found in the TI- Extended BASIC manual.
  15. 1) How long would the kid be without his one and only CF card? 2) I don't want to be responsible for potentially screwing up it's contents while it would be in my possession. The kids life is on that thing... too much responsibility for me! Just an idea I doubted it would ever come to pass.
  16. That's where I come in. I would load up a 'lender cartridge' and give it to his Dad to take to him. Once he gets it, he could could then plug it into his TI, and copy the contents to the CF card.
  17. Okay, I think I'm gonna come up with "snake eyes" or "No Joy" on this, but I have to ask... Here is the situation. I gave a TI away last year with a couple of cartridges. Anyway the kid was somehow able to scrimp and save and somehow managed to obtain a used Nano-PEB. The problem is, he has no way to move new goodies onto the CF card. He does not have access to a PC, so even if he had a CF card reader, he would have no way to use it, so CFHDX is obviously out of the equation as well. I was wondering about using an Uber Cart as a vector for moving individual files/software over. Would it be possible to turn an Uber Cart into a temporary storage device that could be used to copy something into a Nano later?
  18. I just scanned this thread from the beginning... lot's on improvements since the beginning! This cartridge version is the BOMB! Just remember not to forget (like I did) that your favorites file needs to reside on a disk named "BROWSER". Has anyone else come up with any new websites or goodies to go with Stuart's browser that are not reflected in this thread?
  19. To answer your #1: Yes, you could buy these at places like Sears & Roebuck... in the store. Actually that is where I bought many of my over-priced TI parts back then, like the RS-232 card and acoustic modem. (side note: I've put more money in my original TI than any other computer I've owned since...... and this one is catching up fast.) Over-priced is the key word here, while available, the price helped limit their purchase. It was not until around 84' or early 85', IIRC that more people started getting P-Box's from places like "$AVE". I had a friend that got his P-Box, Disk drive and controller, as well as the 32K card for only $500.00 shipped to his home. Your #2 question: "Typical", is kind of subjective. When I first got into the TI, hardly anyone had a P-Box, many of the users WHO REMAINED with the TI got theirs after TI pulled out, so as numbers dwindled, the percentage of active users with P-Boxes climbed for a time. Many had dumped so much money into the TI that they probably figured, "In for a penny, in for a Pound". Then as more time went by, most people started abandoning the platform altogether. Now days many of the people who hang out here have P-Boxes as it's still the best way to expand (IMHO) and retain 100% compatibility with everything. I might also mention going the P-Box route does not back you into a self-limiting corner when it comes to future upgrades either.
  20. I lost interest in Amateur Radio quite a few years back and let my license expire. Back in the day I was heavy into Packet, I even worked the ISS a few times on both digital and voice modes. I could normally be found on 2m/70cm and occasionally on 6m during a decent opening. Unfortunately the Internet started intruding on and eliminating the Packet HF backbone for the Packet network and the politics of the situation was not enjoyable from a hobby aspect, so I ended up pulling out of the digital stuff. Many of the OM I used to have QSO's with went and became silent keys, then life got in the way and I drifted off to other stuff. There is nothing there to entice me back. The people I used to know are gone for the most part, and it no longer seems to have that 'technological edge' that attracted me so long ago. It's mostly commercial plug & play stuff now. Over the years, the gear I've had stored in the closet has slowly dwindled away. I only have a few radios left, a couple of which are HT's with their supporting gear. Getting rid of the stuff is probably more effort than what I could ever make off of it, so there it sits.
  21. Good luck finding one of those old devices! I take it you're into old HF modes? With the advent of cheap and faster PC's, many people have migrated over to the USB sound card based devices that let the software do the heavy work. Like the various << RIGblasters >> or the << Tigertronics >> units.
  22. With the price of junk food at the movies, I can see you wanting to smuggle something in... but a date? Now about that hot date.... ... do you think a couple of hand warmers will get it the date hot enough?
  23. Chris, Can you give us a hint of what the year-end/Xmas edition has in store for us?
