BTW, the more I look at it, the more I really dig your custom label. Do you have a template file you would be willing to distribute?

If the above does not work, try the download link below. :)

  2. Granted, I would not mind some original TI mock-ups on some of my later-release cartridges, like "Munch Man II" and "Beyond Parsec." Even "4A Flyer" has a really nice looking label. I suppose authenticity is one thing we really need to watch for now that the ROMs for pretty much every cartridge is out there and we have the ability to board and package then up.

Mock-up labels are really easy to make now, unlike back in the old TI days. When I make up mine I print them on photo paper, then protect them with glossy self-adhesive lamination (it gives them a more professional appearance). Then it's just using a glue stick to attach them.

I've included a photo of my Super Cart label I made as an example.

    TI 8K Super Cart

Speaking of stuff for the Super Cart, someone is selling a copy of 4A/Command DOS for it right now.....

One thing to keep in mind is If the nanopeb only used a hard drive structure, it would rule out compatibility with a lot of software.

That might not be necessary if a little device could be made that went between the TI and Nano. It's only function would be to emulate a HD.

I know... it's more complicated to make than it sounds. It would require it's own DSR and code to interface the TI and the memory device.

I wonder how small a gadget like that could get though. Imagine, using a device the size of an F18A with a NanoSD card as the SSHD! The whole thing could easily be hidden inside the TI! I'm dreaming again, I doubt anyone is up to the task, has the time, or considers the market big enough to justify the effort or expense. Pity!

  4. I sent the seller a copy of my analysis--I wonder what type of bluster (or simple acceptance of the facts) I'll receive in return?

I'd like to know if he get's back to you, and what he says, if anything. One thing is certain, with a fake label it's not worth $488.00 plus.

I myself am going to keep an eye on this auction and seller, to see what he does and what his ethics are.

I'm curious, did you also send him a link to this forum? If he knows he's being watched by the active TI community he might be more willing to rectify the situation. After all, Ebay auctions are NOT supposed to follow the old motto of, "Let the sucker beware".

  5. I did not.. I wish that I did.

I think I'll probably end up mounting mine higher up (in the empty area) where the venting is. I know that's probably not as good, or as strong as the area you used, but I'm sure it will be a heck of a lot easier!

I'll take some internal shots to document what I do when the time comes. Hopefully I get around to it in the next couple of weeks.

  6.

I was tempted to notch it into the top to make thing easier, but I wanted to remove as little as possible.

I figured I can cut two straight lines in metal much easier than trying to route the plastic.. Plus the plastic is thick so more of the port is able to extrude through the metal.

Good point! I'm curious, did you take any photos of the internals to show the clearances before you buttoned the old gal back up?

  7. Looks nice! I never thought to use the back plate and just cut a larger rectangular hole. Much easier than the holes I have been cutting. Good job.

I agree he did a great job.

When I get around to doing mine I'll be using a Dremel tool to cut the hole. As for the included plate, I'm going to use it as well, but I think I'll paint it black first.

I love the way everyone is including photos! :)

  8. Even if the lower seals are broken, it makes no difference. You can only get to the PEB through the top, as it sits in a womb of foam that protects it from shock. I have three or four of those boxes at my house to protect my PEBs during moves.

Thats right! Now I remember! It's been so long since I had one of those boxes (like 1983), that I forgot. Yeah, going in from the bottom would really make a mess!

  9. So, uh, you got disks and no cartridge, I got a cartridge with no disk...

I've always had a suspicion that some of these Ebay seller's had their own sealing machines. It's easy to claim ignorance if they can say, "Well gee, it was sealed, how was I to know?"

Now THIS ONE looks legit to me, it's just too freaking bad I don't have the room for it!

  10. After re-reading what I wrote, I think I might have mis-stated what I meant. I meant that; software that takes advantage of the emulated hardware (SAMS, GRAM, etc) is of no use on the real TI for the majority of people. So that splinters useablility quite abit between emulator folks and real hardware folks and the fortunate few to have the extra goodies such as those SAMS cards and hard as heck to obtain items.

Coming from that perspective, I totally agree and understand. In my case, if it looks like I cannot run it on my REAL system, I don't bother with it emulation. I do not like to tease myself with something I cannot run on my real box. Also, I don't always have a lot of time on my hands, so cannot invest time in learning something that will not work on my real box either. Besides, I would much rather enjoy my hobby NOW, with whatever is available, than wait for something that may never be. When something new and cool becomes available, I'll probably pop for it! :)

Now emulators do give people without those rare or expensive items a chance to see how they work and help them decide *IF* they might want to buy... one some day.... if one ever "comes along".... and you have enough money to win the bid.

Now I totally LOVE Classic99 ! I have it setup to mirror my real system to a T. If it were not for Classic99, I also would never have gotten back into the TI at all! That program reminded me how much fun the TI really was.

  11. The biggest issue I keep seeing come up in this comparisons war are these:

    1) SAMS isn't available

    2) HFDC's aren't available

    3) RXB isn't available

    4) GRAM devices aren't available

What does this leave the real hardware finatics (like me) to do?

In my case, by necessity I've locked myself into a limited path. Because of limited room and funds to devote to a full-blown system, I have to make do with what I *CAN* use, or what I can buy at a REASONABLE rate. To me the TI is a hobby, not an obsession. Now if it were not for the F18A and the Nano-PEB, I would never have gotten back into the TI. I owe those two designers and builders my undying gratitude.... THANK'S GUYS! :) :)

Now I've seen your Super-Mega System, so I totally understand why a Nano-PEB does not interest you, but for me, it works... but I also see you are still expanding, with the F18A fo example, so I see you are getting ready for the next level in TI gaming via the F18A

The hard truth is, in my opinion, the best hardware on the planet is utterly useless if it's unobtainable either by rarity or expense. Heck, even if I did have the money, I would not spend $100.00 or more for a card that only benefits me on one or two programs and that I might run only once or twice.

Now there are somethings I would love to see, but probably never will, but in the meantime I'm going to use what I have and what is available.

  12.

Speaking of the RESET button; what IS the recommended "method"?

... I've only seen a reset based on a momentary contact switch with a cap in parallel (essentially moving the cartridge reset feature into the console). Is there a better solution...

I was wondering this as well, so I went to the TI equivlent of the "Oracle at Delphi":

    http://www.mainbyte.com/ti99/upgrades.asp

and was shocked that the Oracle had no answer for me. :_(

Does anyone have a .PDF, schematic, link, photo or even a lowly text file?

I KNOW THERE IS ONE OUT THERE... I had it, but somehow misplaced it. I believe it had direct solder taps to the main CPU. It was the one I intended to use, if someone out there has it, please post it!

  13. Guillaume Tello's MLC (My Little Compiler) program also supports the F18A--and even supports the 9900 coprocessor Matthew put in there. . .

    http://gtello.pagesperso-orange.fr/mlc_e.htm

Wow.... it almost sounds like this compiler was made just for it! :)

This is looking to be a good start. I was hoping to see a hacked version of BA-Writer, but no such luck. It was real interesting to see Multiplan listed. I'll download the disk after I get my F18 installed and see if it works without the Cartridge.

When I get a few more entries (hopefully) and compile the list, I'll probably even add links. I'm also going to change up the title to "F18A - 80 columns & Graphics Supported Programs"

I'm going to include Titanium as well, while it's not specifically 80 columns, it uses the F18A partially for sprites. So I think it 'qualifies'.
