Is there a version of this ROM that will work in the PSP2600 emulator? I can't get the currently available ROMs to work. Might it be possible to make a ROM version that will work on it? I'd be willing to donate $20 toward such a venture. I mainly use my PSP for my Atari gaming these days, and I haven't bought a Harmony cart yet. I'm betting a lot of we PSP retrogamers would be most grateful if this could be accomplished! :-)

You were correct about my Mac settings; I switched it to show all file extensions and was able to change the extension properly to .a26 so that it no longer shows as a .bin file, thank you. However, it still doesn't show up in PSP2600. I downloaded the last ROM you posted that already had the .a26 extension; that doesn't show up either. Nor does the ROM for Space Rocks I downloaded, even after properly changing the file extension. Perhaps these games just aren't compatible with PSP2600. :-(

The Beast Invaders hack works, but it would be nice to be able to play the original game with the double shot. Renaming the file using the .a26 file extension doesn't work; my MacBook still says it's a bin file when I highlight it, and it doesn't show up in the emulator. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately the 2600 emulator for PSP must require the .a26 file extension for ROMs, as that's what all the other 2600 ROMs in the emulator have, and this .bin file isn't showing up in the emulator. I tried renaming the .bin file extension to .a26, but it didn't work. Thoughts?

Hi all, I'm trying to map controls for Krull using MAME4ALL on my PSP 2000. I've figured out that, after the first three FIREs that are set to Auto Off, this is what the FIRE numbers correspond to: FIRE 01 = move left FIRE 02 = move up FIRE 03 = move down FIRE 04 = move right FIRE 05 = fire left FIRE 06 = fire up FIRE 07 = fire down FIRE 08 = fire right I tried mapping 1-4 to Joystick Push and 5-8 to square, triangle, circle and X, but it doesn't work. If I map 1-4 to square/triangle/circle/X and 5-8 to Joystick Push, then I can move with the buttons and fire with the D-pad, but obviously the opposite setup would be far more desirable. Anyone have any ideas on how to get these Krull controls mapped properly?

Hi all, With the 5200 as the selected system, I can't figure out how to map the second fire button. In the control configuration, there's only a selection for Fire, not Fire 1 and Fire 2. So, in Defender, I can't fire smart bombs, only the laser cannon; in Countermeasure, I can't fire, I can only aim the turret; and so on and so forth. Anyone have any ideas? Surely there must be a way to do this; I can't imagine the creators of this emulator wouldn't realize you'd need to be able to map both fire buttons, as they have different uses in some games. Also, I don't suppose there's a way to map the player 2 joystick to the four PSP fire buttons in order to play Space Dungeon and Robotron...? Thanks in advance for any help!

Best place to buy a 2600 modded for composite video/audio?
WaverBoy replied to WaverBoy's topic in Atari 2600
Thanks guys! Mr. Longhorn, I'll be getting in touch with you soon. :-) -
I'm looking to get a 2600 modded for composite video and dual-channel audio, as I just don't have it in me to do it myself...can anyone make any suggestions? Atari2600.com sells modded 2600s with S-video output, but I'd rather have both S & composite video or only composite, in case I need to hook it up to a monitor that doesn't have S capability. Thanks in advance!

Can SAVE MARY be found anywhere in cartridge format?

Yes...details? Pretty please with cream and sugar on it? -
Can these console dust covers still be found anywhere?
WaverBoy replied to WaverBoy's topic in Atari 2600
I think they were vintage. Thanks for the offer of yours, although I'd really like to find one with a logo. There's gotta be one out there... -
Or can people consider any console made previous to the NES in these conversations? NES fanboys and their revisionist history really irk me. The disrespect of previous systems amazes me. This garbage does not happen in other hobbies. Marvel is a better company but people still are found of D.C. and other comics of the golden era. 1952 Topps was an Amazing set but people still care for Goudy and the T206 cards. Yet with this hobby most NES collectors are posers who barely know what an Atari 2600 is. And they have no clue what a Colecovision, Intellivision, or Odyssey 1 + 2 is. Hey now...I know this is an Atari forum, but it's possible to love both, which I do. Sometimes I feel like playing Atari, sometimes I feel like playing Nintendo (and Nintendo consoles after the NES don't qualify as "playing Nintendo", thank you very much). I grew up with both. My parents shelled out $139.95 in 1981 for my woodgrain 4-switch. They shelled out much more than that the next year for my Atari 5200. I spent my hard-earned pizza delivery money on my NES in 1988 (can't remember the amount offhand...what were those going for when they were new?). Great memories. I like the Sega Genesis too, but didn't have one of my own back in the day...played it at friends' houses sometimes.

World Of Atari is now apparently defunct...but damn if they didn't have some awesome Atari 2600 dust covers for sale before they went... http://www.worldofatari.com/2600/2600_access.htm Can these still be had anywhere? Best Electronics currently offers lame generic dustcovers.

I have an Atari Flashback 2, and I'd never heard of SAVE MARY before. I'd much rather play it on my real Atari...can it be had in cartridge format anywhere?

If that past/present/future list is to be believed, that means I'll never see NES Super Dodge Ball come out for VC... :-(

First of all, watch it with the namecalling. I didn't call anyone names, I didn't ask to be called names myself, and if you insist on calling names, I'm sure I could come up with some choice ones for you. Second of all, the gameplay is NOT 100% dead on, according to posts at these forums, regarding flicker, rolling, and last-second "improvements" that were unauthorized by the man behind the project...Missile Command, anyone? Third of all, what's the reason for not including all the available Atari games in one unit? The only one I can think of is that Atari/Infogrames wants people to shell out for three systems + to get all the games. Third party games I can understand, of course, because they'd have to be re-licensed. Hopefully they can license a bunch the next time around, and include them along with ALL OTHER ATARI 2600 GAMES. If they did that, and charged even as much as $50-$60, I'd be buying one in a heartbeat. I mean, two flashback consoles have been released, and STILL no Space Invaders, one of the all-time classics...that's the game that made me beg my parents for one back in the day! And still no accurate original Atari 2600 Asteroids. And still no paddle controllers...the old ones are more glitch-prone than the old joysticks, and could really use a nice slight revamp. Fourth of all, I've no talent when it comes to mechanical/electronic/cosmetic meddling; since only 42 games are included, the thing should have definitely included a cartridge slot that works, but a disclaimer included re: no twenty-year-old cartridges guaranteed to work on the system. If most or all of the games were included, we wouldn't need a cartridge slot. I'm not saying it isn't better than nothing, and the second is a definite improvement over the extremely lamentable first. But it's still not quite what the fans want. Not this fan anyway. It's just not what it could have been. If trouble is going to be gone to to do this in the first place, gameplay should be 100% accurate, all possible games should be included, and both joysticks AND paddles need to be included as well. Next time around, get it right once and for all, and then no more Atari 2600 Flashback consoles need be released. Buy one, and you're done. Note: I'm not taking Curt to task over any of this; I'm sure he has only the best of intentions, and has busted his butt to get what is out there out there. I'm just offering feedback here.

Why, oh WHY hasn't the Atari Flashback console been done right yet? And by right, I mean every single last effing Atari 2600 game that the powers-that-be still own the licenses for being included on it, since we all know we can now fit all known Atari 2600 games into a microscopic bit of real estate. I also mean every game playing, looking, and sounding EXACTLY like the actual cartridge versions, which, I believe, even the FB2 doesn't quite do (correct me if I'm wrong). I also mean new paddle controllers included; at least they did the right thing with the new CX40 joysticks. A big step up. I also mean a cartridge slot included for compatibility with third-party games that wouldn't be included in the unit proper. But, noooooooooooooo, that seems out of the realm of possibility. 40 effing games, for chrissakes? Out of hundreds and hundreds? With no cartridge compatibility, no paddle controls, and not-quite-accurate gameplay? Fuggeddaboudit.

The only problem with this retro console, besides the 7800 controllers, is that there aren't nearly enough games preloaded, especially since there doesn't appear to be a slot for media containing extra games. 20 measly games??? Everyone knows darned well they could have fit tons more 2600 games into that console, even with the 5 7800 games included. I think I'll stick with my 2600, 5200, and original carts and multicarts. Although, I will say that I think this is a step in the right direction. Maybe one of these days they'll get it right; the Jakks controllers certainly left much to be desired as well.

Sega Genesis 1: Is it capable of true stereo sound?
WaverBoy replied to WaverBoy's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Thanks guys!!! -
There are plenty of people on these boards who like the 5200 controllers (I'm one of them, obviously), so it's all a matter of personal taste. Plus, the analog control is pretty much required for some of the 5200 games, which you won't get if you plug in a 2600-type joystick. You definitely do need to play them for awhile to get used to them, as they're a different animal. I've had a 5200 for 21 years now, and I've never had problems with the controllers except for the Star Wars arcade port, but hell, the ONLY way to effectively control that game is with the arcade yoke itself (OR a Microsoft Dual Strike, which comes in very handy for the MAME version!). Even Pac-Man, despite what others may say, is quite playable once you get used to how the sticks work. I've gotten way past the 6th key table (I think it's after the 6th when the monsters turn vulnerable indefinitely after you eat a power pellet). Reliability is another issue, although these days you can buy rebuilt 5200 controllers from Best Electronics that use parts which in some cases have been redesigned and manufactured by Best themselves, and are far superior and last far longer than the Atari originals. And also, there's the 5200 Trak-Ball controller, which has got to be one of the best controllers ever made for ANY game system.

The reason I ask is this: I have a Genesis 1, with A/V cable, and I'm using a Y-adaptor on the end of the audio portion, so I can split the mono signal into my right/left stereo inputs. Now, I've read on this forum that if you use a patch cable from the headphone jack, you can get stereo. I've also read that the Genesis 1 isn't capable of stereo. So, my question is this: if I use a patch cable from the headphone jack, instead of splitting the mono from the A/V cable, will it sound any different, i.e. will it be ACTUAL stereo? Or, will it still be mono split into two channels, and sound exactly the same as my current setup? Thanks to all who can help!

Seanbaby takes on Religious NES Games
WaverBoy replied to joeybastard's topic in Classic Console Discussion
"Super Noah’s Ark 3D The first Castle Wolfenstein was praised as a break-through in gaming with its immersive 3D Nazi-killing gameplay." Funny, I don't remember the first Castle Wolfenstein having immersive 3-D gameplay...perhaps my TI-99 was out of adjustment... -
It's perfectly clear to me. I don't think you read MY post. I'm perfectly aware of the legal status. Infogrames would be perfectly within their legal rights to sue. I'm NOT DISPUTING THAT. What I AM disputing is the logical sense. And, I still haven't heard a logical response to my question: why is it ethical to sell a cartridge over and over for hundreds of dollars, which the copyright owner won't receive ANY MONEY FOR, and not ethical to sell a multicart? Plenty of artists HAVE been upset over used item sales, and have gone on record as such. Garth Brooks among them. Again, I'm not disputing the legalities, just the lack of logical sense.
-
Not off used cartridges, no. Nor should they be entitled to. Copyright owners already made their fair profits from the original sales of their videogames when they were new. This is all quite true and as it should be. Retailers who were unable to sell their inventory of shrinkwrapped new Atari videogames way back when have already settled their accounting responsibilities with the original copyright holders long, long ago. This is true, too, so long as we are speaking specifically of unmodified Atari cartridges and hardware. You're absolutely dead wrong here. A multicart is a brand new product, which, unless it exclusively contains original works of the seller, is comprised of copyrighted videogames. Each copyright holder has the legal right to deny a multicart maker/seller permission to include their game in the multicart, if they so chose. And why shouldn't they deny that permission if they won't be receiving anything in the way of royalties or a share in the profits? If you wrote a game that earned you $10,000 twenty years ago but not a dime since, how would you feel if you discovered somebody had repackaged YOUR videogame without asking you and then, via the convenience of trampling your legal copyright protection, made a million dollars off their brand new product? How would you feel if you were a steadfast opponent of violence and your "Pat the Kitty Cat" videogame was packaged in a multicart with "Bloodlust Avengers" Vol 1 through 22? Copyright protection is all about granting the copyright holder the right to deny anyone the use of their copyrighted materials if they so choose, or to grant permission of use on whatever terms they agree upon. Whether copyrighted material is presently or was ever a commercial success has absolutely no bearing on the validity of copyright protection. Perhaps what you meant was, "Whether you buy these, or multicarts, makes no real difference to the copyright owners who are unaware their games are being used and sold without their permission." I can agree with that statement. But once those copyright owners become aware of the fact that money is being made from infringements of their rights, however slight, they have every right to file a lawsuit. I am not dead wrong. I never argued that they didn't have a legal right to file a lawsuit. Of course they do. I'm arguing that, realistically and logically, selling used cartridges over and over at collector's prices is making everyone EXCEPT FOR THE ORIGINAL COPYRIGHT OWNER lots of $$, and is ethically NO DIFFERENT than selling multicarts. Legal shmegal. If it's illegal to sell multicarts, it should also be illegal to sell USED CARTRIDGES. Nobody has ever been able to come up with a logical explanation why selling used cartridges over and over for major $$$ is ethically any different than selling multicarts. Is it really ethical to sell a used Quadrun cartridge for $300, when the original copyright owners get nothing from this sale? If this Quadrun cartridge has been sold 5 times before for $300 each time, that's $1800 in sales that the original copyright owners have received NO PART OF. Is this ethically any different? I'm listening. There are plenty of laws on the books that make no sense, and copyright laws are just as fucked up as they come. It burns me up that people gouging collectors for hundreds of dollars for an old Atari cartridge are seen by some people as in the clear, but those that make multicarts are seen as unethical. Bullshit.
