    Damn man what are you arguing here?? Are you arguing the fact that if you are playing Earthbound, it does not have to be renamed earthbound it can be renamed 1.2.3.4. or whatever.

     

    If that is the whole purspose of this argument then holy shit you are right. Forgive me for telling someone they HAD to name a game save the title of the game they are playing when in fact they could name it whatever they felt like.

     

    Good thing you came in so people know they can save Dragon Warrior as Idiot1.sav

    You specified a save file needs to be download and then renamed for every game you save. Meaning that every time you want to save a different game, you need to go back to your computer and download another save file and then rename it. My point is that you don't need to go download a new save file every time, nor do you have to rename it. So no part of that is correct. You can just copy the same file you have and name it whatever you want.

     

    I'm not mad at all, lots of other useful information in here. I'm going to check out the Everdrive and also this Drive Sort someone mentioned. I hate that my games are sorted by date and not title.

    It's written at the grammatical capabilities of a fifth grader but let me attempt to reconstruct it.
    You need to download a file from online, then rename it, and you need to do all of this for every game you save.
    If this is not what you meant to write, that's different. It is however, what you did write. If you meant something else then you should work on your grammar.

    So Deemar let me get this straight. This is what I had posted and your replies.

    It seems the save is all you disagree on. Since I have no knowledge of these paks personally please explain further what you mean. From what I gather. You are trying to tell me you can duplicate the same file multiple times if needed? Now being very proficient at computers this is what I would like clarification on. You can only have 1 file with the same name per folder. So do you copy numerous saves to the same save file w/out them overiding the other saves? Do you have a different folder for each game w/that same save file in it? How do you do what you do?

     

    This sound pretty confusing to me. This being even if you can save multiple games to each save file, it obviously must get full since you mention duplicating it. If you have a 100 duplicated files with the same name how do you know what saved game is on what save file?

    You stated that the user had to download a save file from Retrozone and then rename it in a certain format, and this is for every game they wanted to save. As I stated, this isn't true. You download a file once and don't have to rename it at all. Obviously if you want more than one save file you'll have to rename it to something but it doesn't have to be a new download from retrousb.com and it doesn't have to be a specific format.

     

    When I mentioned you can copy the same file, I mean copy it and rename it to whatever you want. I downloaded the 8kbsave.sav file from retrousb.com and then just made 10 copies of it, one for each of:

    - Zelda

    - Dragon Warrior III

    - Dragon Warrior IV

    - some others I don't remember

     

    I did name them with the same name as the games so I'd be able to tell them apart but I didn't have to do that. I could have just named them 1.sav, 2.sav, 3.sav.....

     

    Further to this, I'm pretty sure you don't even need to download the file from retrousb.com at all though I'm not sure of this. My assumption is that the system doesn't have permissions to create a new file on the file system, it only has permissions to write to an already created file, therefore you need to put the file there yourself. I haven't tried this yet.

    but everdrive dose it all automagicly for ya, no manual steps.

     

    one thing to look at is the roms that dont work

    the everdrive has a small list that dont work

    and so dose the powerpak

    but there are a few that work on one, but not the other

    I know this topic's a little old but I don't want new searchers to get the wrong information.

    This is incorrect, I have since purchased a PowerPak and use it every day. I'll attempt to explain how the saving works.

     

    You do need to download a save file from retrousb.com because it's formatted properly for save data (I'm guessing). Either way, the PowerPak can't create a save file itself (I'm guessing because of permissions issues), it just needs a save file on there before you start. So when you go to save a game, you choose which file you want to save to. I hope this makes sense.

     

    To put it in a real world scenario, I played Dragon Warrior III over Christmas (a lot). I would play the game like normal and visit the king in order to save the progress like normal. The whole time you're playing the game, even though you're saving it along the way, nothing is actually saved to the memory on the cartridge. When turning off the game you hold the reset button for 4 seconds, then let go. The game asks if you want to save and to which file. I saved it to the only save file I had on there (8kbsave.sav) and then turned off the Nintendo. It's that simple. Some things to note:

    - It doesn't matter what your save file is named since you get to choose where you save your game.

    - As long as you have a save file on there, you can keep duplicating that same file as many times as you like whenever you need a new one for a new game. Just keep making copies, you don't need to download new ones from online, you only do that once.

     

    The thing that really pissed me off was that I assumed the Compact Flash cartridge which goes in the PowerPak is the same price as an SD card so when I saw that you could get one included with the PowerPak for $17 I declined. I knew that a 4 gibibyte SD card is only $5 so I felt like I would be getting ripped off. When I went to the store to buy a Compact Flash card for my new PowerPak I discovered they are $40 in store so I really got ripped off. However for some reason the SNES PowerPaks come with a free Compact Flash card included in the price. I thought that was weird.

    I watch this show on Netflix every night and I've noticed quite a few classic video game systems on there, my girlfriend was the one that brought the first couple to my attention, I missed them at first.

    For anyone that doesn't know what this show is, it's people that just hoard things in their house. It's mostly people that just can't throw anything away, including garbage, and their house is piled floor to ceiling with junk and they just continue to buy useless crap. Eventually the walls rot out, bugs are everywhere and the city tells them to clean it up or it'll be bulldozed. Cameras film the hoard inside the house and often times there are video game systems hidden among the piles of garbage.

     

    So far I've seen:

    - World Class Track Meet running pad

    - NES Zapper

    - Nintendo64 Storage Unit

    - And this.....Atari Jaguar in the box:

    I just took a picture of my television, hope you can make it out. The woman whom had this was 48 and had a collection of over 1000 dolls that she talked to and cared for like children. Real messed up in the head. I believe this is her living room. Most times they just throw most of the trash in a dumpster or donate it to get it out of the house so the city doesn't bulldoze it so this probably got tossed or donated.

    Interesting topic, I'll be on the lookout for these. I don't even have Soccer yet so I need to pick up a copy either way.. I don't care how many screws either necessarily but this is really interesting. Value wise, I dunno.. The 5 screw version would bring a few extra bucks I'd imagine. ;-)

    3 screw. I know there are collectors that tried going for a complete 3 screw set and they got stuck at Soccer. As far as I know nobody has a complete set and I hardly have any other black box games. And I'm certainly not paying the price a 3 screw Donkey Kong Jr. Math goes for. I paid $35 for the 5 screw version I have.

     

    There are also some odd screw variants I've seen like 5 screw:

    - Legend Of Zelda (gold)

    - Mike Tyson's Punch Out!

    - Jaws

    - Mega Man

    - Stadium Events

    I complained a lot on this forum about the issues surrounding Princess Rescue and how it was handled and eventually got banned here from reading that thread. I can still use these forums, I just can't read that thread.

    A similar topic started on Nintendo Age and I continued to complain there, then I got banned from that entire site. I guess Atari Age is more tolerant of my complaining. If you want to know the issue you can check out that thread, I've come to the conclusion I'm the only one that cares so I'm not going to keep going on about it.

    I wonder if the fact that it is a Canadian NES game matters? Either way, interesting stuff. I've never seen one before either.

    I know the Gyromite is like that, I got a 3 screw copy for $10 which is about what it's worth. However there are lots of CAN Gyromites on Ebay and absolutely zero 3 screw Soccers anywhere, of any origin. There aren't any on Ebay and there haven't been any time I've looked for them. It's also interesting to note that the PCB doesn't match what's in the nesdev database:

    I was going to post this on Nintendo Age but I got banned from the site so looks like they'll be missing out.

    I head been reading about how rare some of the 3 screw variants of black box games are and that they were available in every game except Soccer, nobody had seen a 3 screw Soccer cartridge. I thought, "Man, I thought for sure mine was 3 screw." So I went downstairs and checked it out.

     

    Last summer I stopped at a garage sale after seeing the sign while driving down the road and asked if they had any Nintendo games. The guy said they did but they were his son's and he was out. While he was saying that his son came home and brought me out a top loader with Super Mario 3 which I bought from him. I asked if he had any games and he went back in the house and brought me out a pile of them, gave me all of them for free. Here's everything I got that day, most of it from this guy:

    That's a 3 screw Soccer in there and from the mood of the encounter I can assure you this guy isn't a modifier. He sold me the top loader for about $40 I think because it didn't work. I realized after that the channel selection switch on the back was on 4 and needed to be switched back to 3. So he wouldn't have been someone to pull off a label swap, especially after giving me all the games for free.

     

    So we can pretty well determine that all black box games are now available in 3 screw variants.

    I've got the full sound game from www.timewalkgames.com and I have an unmodified top loader. All the tutorials I find online use the expansion pack on the bottom of the front loader which the top loader doesn't have. Is there a way to play this game on this system with full sound?

     

    Another question for bonus points, I also have a PowerPak which I would like to put the Mr. Gimmick ROM on. Do I need to do anything extra to go this route?

    I didn't actually make those cartridges, I sent in an order at AtariAge for them to make it for me. I only designed the label..

    Let me think about it for a couple days first.

     

    In that case I can download the ROM and send it to them myself. I'd still like to know how you feel about that though, it'd be cool if you were okay with it. But with my complaints in the past I'd probably get the cartridge in a bag after Al drove over it with his car.

    Well, I actually have never sold any games before, so I'm not really familiar with how that works. Since making games is something I just enjoy doing, I usually don't get money involved with it. xDD

    Also, I was originally intending for this game to be just sort of a gift to James, like from me to him. I never meant for it to be a profit of any kind. If I saw that there were like 50 people that wanted it, then I would consider it, but as it is, I'm just a college guy in school, and the money I spent for these two cartridges was just money from my own pocket from working at a grocery store. LOL! I will make the game downloadable though, so you could all play it. In fact, that reminds me, I'm home now, so I'll go set up the link! ^^

     

    No, I'll give you $25 if you'll ship me a cartridge like the one you made.

    I just recently started checking out N.age, even their members are bummed/pissed about this. And yeah, their ripping up deemar over there too. :lolblue: As far as not knowing what the game was.....what the hell dude, how far are you under that rock you live?? :dunce:

    I just read on NintendoAge that this game is a ripoff of Super Mario Bros, is that right? How come this wasn't specified on the store page anywhere? How come nobody was told this prior to buying it? First I wanted to run over this abomination with my car now I want to burn it with the fire of a thousand suns, how could you leave out such a major detail to people paying you for the game? I can never trust this place enough to buy anything from the store here ever again, too many shady details.

    I didn't care which kind of game it was, I was supporting the community and one of our own continuing the Atari releases. I only cared about supporting the site, it wasn't about the game.

    Negative. As I posted, I haven't received mine yet. I had and still have no intention of selling it. I originally bought it to play it. I don't even know which kind of game it is yet.

    The other dude clearly stated that his 70 dollar game was devalued. Which apparently means it is only worth the 70 dollars he paid for it. He clearly wanted to use this game to make a profit.

    IT'S A $100 GAME! Do people not remember how much it cost? It just happened.

     

    Then send it back to me and I'll refund the $50 plus shipping you paid for it. I'll then have 101 boxed copies available for people who do want the game.

    Dude. Come on. Please tell me you remember what the game cost, you just sold it a couple of months ago. It was $100. I don't want to send it back because I don't care about the money, I wanted an exclusive game. 1 in 100 exclusive, not 1 in 200. If you sell the other boxes I'm going to film me driving over the sealed game in my car 10 times and then post it on YouTube. When people ask me what the hell I'm doing I'll tell them the story, that's worth $100 to me. Hopefully the next time someone thinks about doing this they'll reconsider it.
