Just got my 7800 back from Electronic Sentimentalities... Glad to finally play my 7800 with s-video resolution. FYI... Joe will install the ports on the REAR of the unit if you request it.

Why didn't later atar 7800s have built-in AV ports as well as RF out?
7800 replied to Prosystemsearch's topic in Atari 7800
I only new one kid back in 1986-1987 who used the A/V ports on his NES. He came from a well off family and had a nice TV with A/V outputs. TV's with A/V ports were available, but they were probably premium priced, and most families probably didn't spring for them... at least in my neighborhood. So I can understand the decision for Atari to not even bother with them. Speaking of better outputs, I just acquired a 1991 Mitsubishi 26" CRT TV with S-video... I never had a CRT with an S-video out. I didn't even know S-video was around back then... I thought that was a late 90's thing. -
I really don't think a 2 way splitter is going to degrade the picture quality, assuming everything is hooked up properly and your using quality equipment. We're talking -3.5 db on both TVs... not a big loss at all.

This thread is already becoming another "7800 vs. the competition" thread. LOL! You can never have too many of those. -
Yes, you can use a 2 way splitter. Don't buy Radio Shack crap though... get them from your local cable tech, better quality. Have him cut you a few jumpers too.

Why didn't Atari put A/V ports on the later 7800s? 1- It would have brought the cost up. 2- It would have brought the cost up. -
Wow... when communication is this bad, I bail. Glad I didn't put any money towards this.

No sound from my Atari 520 STfm... Help please :)

Thanks. For now I think I'm going to use the RF modulator port just for audio if I can... since I am getting awesome video on the Atari monitor. -

The harness is hardwired to the inside of the monitor. It can be replaced but... are they really out there? Any idea where I can start looking? -

So, I spent a few hours trying to figure out what the sound problem is with the monitor. I have come to the conclusion that there is a bad trace in the harness. If I bend the wire just right, the speaker works. Oh well, at least I figured out what the deal is... now I just need to see if I can find a new harness... maybe best has them. Also, the monitor harness is hardwired so... replacing it might not be possible unless it's from a junked unit. It's a SC1224 Hitachi tube version. -

I will do that. Would you happen to have a diagram of the pin holes showing the numbers? -

7800 replied to 7800's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
It just occurred to me after starting this thread that the STfm has the RCA out for use with a TV. So I hooked it up to a TV and sure as shit, I get sound. What baffles me is that I was initially getting sound from the monitor speaker intermittently, then nothing at all. I'm wondering if the monitor speaker is flaky. I will need to investigate... but not tonight. -
I recently purchased a 520 ST and HxC floppy emulator. When I first hooked it up and loaded a game I got sound... so I know the speaker on the monitor works. Now, I can load any game and I get NO SOUND from any of them. Did I accidentally toggle off the sound either on the HxC floppy emulator or the computer itself???

Go here. http://www.atarimax.com/5200sd/documentation/index.html

Fixed that for you.

Well, how about AA members who are part of the XM discussions, people who threw down money for the project, and potential consumers who want to buy the thing after the funders get theirs. Better?
-
I think we all understand that especially NOW, with Curt having personal issues... that any further development of the XM is likely on hold. However, I think the biggest problem people are having is simply the lack of "courtesy" being shown here. Just a little common courtesy of making a post once a week, even if just to say, "nothing yet"... goes a long way. If Curt is pissed by all the trolls and negative comments, he needs to just ignore that and press on... not alienate the entire XM fan base.
-
Ok, Uproar... bad choice of words I guess, but none the less, some people on here are a little pissed about it... I would have to assume. There is no solution, Curt will simply reach out to us when he is good and ready. Do I like that approach? No... but it is what it is.
-
I have to agree with many of the post here. Leaving it to members to contact him seems like a bad choice. When other people's money is concerned, I feel it would be a very simple common courtesy to simply post here once in a while giving an update... even if there is nothing to report. Regarding his health issues, I hope all is well and remains well, but... as mentioned already, he has plenty of time to post on Facebook, why not post here with an update every now and again to let people know that they have not been forgotten? If nobody put money down on this... it would be a non issue and there would be no reason for the uproar... IMO.

Only if you promise to actually buy a 5200, Track Ball, and AtariMax SD cart within the next 6 months.
-
So... did something or someone piss off Curt to the point where he's pretty much closed himself off from everyone here? I was VERY late to the party with the XM and found out about it maybe a year and a half ago... and I immediately contacted him to get some info... he was very communicative and pleasant. I get the impression that he's pissed about something.
-
Yeah, you can't use too much of it. A little bit goes a long way. I spray a little on a dusting cloth once and use it about a dozen times before I spray more on. Never spray it directly on the item you are trying to make look nice.
-
I use Pledge furniture polish on everything, even the glass on my CRTs. The more times you wipe something down with it, the more it starts the shine.
-
I discovered that I needed a power supply cable extension... managed to find one online and ordered it. Going to wait until I get it to play with it some more. I was thinking that maybe some of the games that I tried that have no sound are not fully compatible with the STFM. One game for example, ALTERED BEAST has no sound at all. Craigslist is definitely hit or miss. I check my local area everyday and very seldomly see anything. I did see a heavy sixer for sale a few months ago for a steal, but someone beat me to it.

Holy crap... What did I miss? LOL! Everyone calm down and give each other a big hug.
