  1. IMO, the one game that really demonstrates just the tip of the iceberg of power that the 7800 has... is Commando. Not just because of the pokey chip, but because of the overall gameplay and aesthetics... compare it to the NES version for a good laugh. LOL!
  2. Wait, there was an E.T. game for Atari? When the hell did this happen?
  3. I believe the Game Gear was essentially a miniature Sega Master System. I had one when it first came out, but sold it to raise money for the Super Nintendo... I wish I kept the Game Gear though, It probably would of needed a recap by now.
  4. It's entertaining to see the die hard Atari loyalists vs. the Nintendo/Sega loyalists... good stuff! Can any one confirm that the Sega Master System is technologically better than the Atari 7800? I actually think the SMS is better than Nintendo, I love it's audio better. "Almost every good Nintendo idea was originally done by Atari" Can anyone confirm this too.
  5. I feel the Heavy Sixer has the best quality of them all, it even has a great stock RF picture. The CX-10 sticks can get flaky, but one could always get a couple modern versions of the CX-40, they are great controllers.
  6. If the alternate universe Atari 7800 had a full release with a handful of unique games in 1984, it would have plenty of time to prepare for the upcoming Sega Master System in 1986... assuming Atari payed close attention to Japan's Mark III. Maybe Sega would have teamed up with Atari to release some of their arcade hits of the time, instead of releasing the SMS.
  7. How about if in in alternate universe the tables were turned. In other words, if Atari didn't sell the consumer division to Tramiel, and if they did some better market research (Japan), and blocked Nintendo from 3rd party games... Would the 7800 be capable of doing what Nintendo did in our universe?
  8. As great as the Nintendo NES was... and still is. I would have loved to see Atari get the head start with the 7800, or maybe something similar but different. Imagine if Atari went a completely different direction with the design of the console itself... if Atari's successor to the 5200 was something like the NES, but still had the qualities of the 7800. Game pads, AV outputs, larger carts to accommodate massive games, light gun, etc... Even a computer add-on with keyboard although I think maybe that wouldn't have sold well. Most importantly, if Atari secured the rights to those 3rd party games before Nintendo did... who knows how awesome it would have been.
  9. Really cool... can any of these effects be applied to playable games? Yup, I'm a noob.
  10. Well, evidently it's a huge undertaking to make just one label... that's what everyone keeps saying. If it's that much trouble, than it's probably not worth it. Down the road, I plan to upgrade to a color laser printer, I'll just print them out myself. I'll use 3M double sided tape and use laminating sheets to protect the print. I'd rather wait a few years than throw away that much coin for the real deal. Yes, the Harmony Carts do have face labels, but I do not like the design. They don't have end labels though, and thought it would be pretty nifty if it did.
  11. Like I said, WHATEVER. All the would be pro label makers can say whatever they want. In the end... they won't offer their services unless there is a substantial profit in it for them... so, it hardly matters to me anyway. This thread may as well be deleted.
  12. It's a tough decision because the labels I want are for the Harmony Cart. I designed two different ones, one for the cart I have now, and one for another cart I might get down the road. Any left over labels will no doubt languish in a drawer for all eternity... because I doubt anyone would buy them from me.
  13. But you'd get that money back in the mark up of the carts right? ... Also, I'm not trying to knock anybody that does this as a side gig to make money. I understand that it's a business. It works out better for people who want to make hundreds of carts to sell, but need print work done... in the end both parties make out. The ones who just want to make a new label for their favorite game pretty much has to pay the piper or make it themselves... I totally understand. I just thought there would be an off chance that someone would be willing to take my files, size them up or down to an already existing template (that they no doubt have), and print out a few, at a price that doesn't put me in the poor house and gives the person providing the service a little spending cash.
  14. Yup, just like it says in my OP I'm not gonna name names... but I was quoted nearly $50 for less than 20 labels plus shipping, and that price reflects the preparation involved. I just don't see how THAT MUCH preparation is involved if one specializes in making 2600 cart labels AND that I already have the design. Sorry but, I'm not going to be the victim of a quick cash grab. I get the whole minimum quantities thing and making a profit but, some of us fans and members on here just want a few good looking labels for our carts. I wouldn't mind being stuck with a few extra labels even if I only need 2... and paying around $20 for them.
  15. Wait, What? ... if the Concerto does not allow for pokey sound, I will totally pass on it.
  16. So as it stands, 2 out of the 3 initially responded to my PM/e-mail, then vanished off the face of the earth... the other is very communicative, but a bit pricey for my needs. I can't see spending almost $50 for just a few labels, especially when all I need are 4. If I was making 20 carts to sell, then I could understand. I would really like to avoid the Kinkos type places because I know they will never be able to print them at the right size and quality... plus I can't see buying a stack of laminating sheets, cutters, etc. just for a few stupid labels.
  17. I did not know that. Galaxian is one of those games that is best enjoyed with the Trak Ball IMO.
  18. Agreed, also a benefit of the Concerto Cart is that it will support home brews, hacks and if I'm not mistaken games with pokey sound.
  19. As far as I know, Ms Pac-Man should work just fine with a digital controller. However, it is important for anyone just getting into the 5200 to know that some games are strictly analog; and some of them are best enjoyed with the Trak Ball Controller. With that said, It is my opinion that the Trak Ball and a solid digital controller are essential for enjoying most of the games for the 5200.
  20. Periodically, I look for these things on ebay. Type in "competition pro joystick" and they all should pop up. As far as I know, the only way to recognize the 5200 version is buy the plug design, The guy who sold mine didn't know what it was for... and must have simply assumed it was for a PC.
  21. The wire harnesses for the 5200 controllers are very delicate. It doesn't take much to mess up the traces... bending the wire the wrong way will make it malfunction after a while. I wish there was a company out there that made brand new harnesses for the 5200 controller...and the Trak ball controller.
  22. Your going to love that thing! The AtariMax is right up there with sliced bread.
  23. Thanks very much! I contacted one of them a few weeks ago, no dice with him... just doesn't respond to PM's. I will reach out to the other.
