JUNE !!! Its etched in stone .
How do you know this?
-
This may totally not even be related but, I had a Pole Position for 5200... and that would exhibit the same symptoms as MAC-42's 7800 Pole Position. I took mine apart and noticed it was corroded and bubbling around the traces. I'm thinking the cart was subjected to some serious moisture over the years.
Also, I just bought a NOS sealed in damaged box Ballblazer... and the first time I fired it up, the sound was full of static. It cleared up after I pulled it in and out a few times.
Games that sit for a while in the wrong environment tend to have potential for issues.

Nice to see that this got resolved. I know I would have gone with some kind of inline switch to solve the problem... but that's because I'm not tech savvy enough. lol!

Some of the tones remind me of the PC Engine.

I can't seem to view them on JUM52.

I had Burgertime for the 2600 and thought it was ok. However, my best friend had an Intellivision and Burgertime on it was absolutely stunning! If the Intellivision version hadn't been so outstanding, I don't think the 2600 version would have gotten such a bad rap. MNetwork generally did a great job on their 2600 ports so this one seems like a bit of a letdown given the graphics are so bland and the gameplay is slow.
^^^This^^^... Burgertime on Intellivision is IMO the best version out there.
I'm a bit surprised that the 2600 version isn't remotely as good as the Intellivision version, since we all know the 2600 is capable of doing the game justice.

2 or 4 port both work fine. The switch box is not that bad. However, you will get RF interference like rolling lines from both versions of the system. The best thing anyone can do is get the AV mod... even if your using an old CRT, the picture will be primo. If you have a CRT with no AV inputs, get a RF Modulator from Radio Shack... it has the s video input too.

The controllers are the only things you will undoubtedly have problems with so, get some rebuilt gold contact ones from Best Electronics, a good digital stick, and the Trak Ball.

The Intellivision version is my personal favorite.

If it were me, I'd want to work on Dig Dug.

On the flip side, I would definitely buy a Dig Dug XM, especially with arcade accurate sound and graphics.

I'm having a hard time deciding if I will work on Dig Dug XM or Castle Crisis. I have Bryan's blessing, and source code
, for the later. Were you planning to make the Dig Dug graphics more arcade accurate too? Like you did with DK.

The A8 Ballblazer has a really cool "Lucasarts" animated intro. The 5200 version does not have this.
-
This would be great if ported to the 5200.

-
We know that Dig Dug XM cartridge will be a realistic expectation.

If it's the one I think your talking about, I think that's on the back burner for now.

Most early Capcom NES games seem to play like unfinished demos. LOL! The first game that I can think of that played well was Mega Man (Rockman)... and over the years, top shelf games got much better. Games like Strider and Duck Tales got the short end of the stick it seems. With that said, I don't think it's the limitations of the system but more the programmers rushing the games or being lazy, etc.
I think a Commando Homebrew for NES could be AMAZING if done right... and put the original NES game to shame.
Even some early Sunsoft games were generally unimpressive. Years later games like Blaster Master and Batman showed the capabilities of the NES.

Yeah, This game is pretty awesome on ALL platforms.

How about a Mr. Do & Dig Dug... 2 in 1 cart for 7800.

There are members on here that offer the mod service. All you have to do is ship it to them and they will take good care of your 5200. It's worth the money.
The guy who did mine installed the following:
-Power jack
-RCA audio jack
-RCA video jack
-S video jack
-Blue LED power indicator
I forgot exactly how much I paid but the grand total was around $100 with shipping. I took the top casing off first then shipped it because the top plastic door and trim pieces are very susceptible to damage during shipping. Plus it's a little lighter. He will need the bottom casing to install the jacks.
Regarding 2 port systems... I'm not sure if those can be AV modded, but I could be very wrong.
-
An AV mod is the best way to go. It absolutely eliminates interference. Also... keep the power supply away from the 5200.

I know everyone loves the Wico stick, but most of the games for the 5200 are better suited for a digital stick IMO.
The best set up IMO... is a digital stick (preferably the Coin Controls Competition Pro) if you can find one), the Trak Ball controller, and 2 rebuilt CX-52s in the Space Dungeon/Robotron 2084 Dual stick holders.
I have a Wico and the keypad but rarely use them... Blaster is fun with the Wico though.

The 7800 is not exactly the NES in popularity, so whether I am in need or interested in the product (Or even able to purchase it), I am glad to have one offered and the complete openness of its origin and background, in addition to your positive vibe towards the 7800 community and user base. You’re doing a hell of a job at communicating in a language that is not your native tongue as well. PM sent.
Agreed. However, I must say... The 7800 version of Commando is MUCH better than the NES version. The NES version is ridiculously glitchy.
I'm very happy that I caught this thread in just the nick of time... and managed to get the last copy of this game. Looking forward to it's arrival.
