  1. The Intellevision has way better graphics and sound than the 2600... at least as far as capabilities. Look at Burger Time for INTV, that has to be one of the best translations of the game. Even INTV Defender is briliant!

The controller side buttons are my only gripe, otherwise the disk pad thingy works fine... just feels strange since I've been used to d pads and joysticks all my life.

Intellevision needs some serious home brews and a SD cart. The controller needs a side button modification, an easy press solution would be perfect, like a cherry switch or something.

  2. The key to the Comp Pro for me is ensuring the 5200 controllers you have hooked to it are perfectly centered. Even a slight off-center 5200 stick will cause trouble.

    ^^^ This ^^^

So long as your 5200 controller is centered just the right way, the Comp Pro should work awesomely. You may need to fiddle with the analog stick to get it right were it needs to be... but that's the nature of the CX-52, it's a very quirky controller.

  3.

Aside from Rollerball which was released by CollectorVision, all the SGM games released so far have been Team Pixelboy titles: Dragon's Lair, Zaxxon Super Game, King's Valley, Thexder, Buck Rogers Super Game and Mecha-8.

Thanks... Do you know if all these games are readily available or if they are sold out? And where do I go to buy them if they are available?

  4. So... Have any Super Game Carts been released yet? The SGM website seems to indicate that most of these games are coming in 2012 and 2013. Not sure if I want to pull the trigger on this unless I know some games are going to come out for this.

  5. I love how the listing is worded in such a way where it can't really be construed as falsifying information. However, the listing IS very deceptive. Clearly the seller is hoping for an uneducated sucker to come along and buy what he/she may think is an actual rare cartridge from the early 80's, made by Atari.

An honest seller would indicate that it is a custom made labeled cartridge with the original prototype rom installed on the hardware. Most reputable sellers take more than one picture of an item that is listed at such a high price, so any prospective buyer can see it from all angles.

  6. Do you know if the BIOS issues have been resolved? I don't think it's as easy as just visiting Curt to get one of these. If they were ready to go, I'm certain he would have shipped them. Maybe I read too much into his post but he said he was "hoping" to ship them on the 7800 anniversary. That's certainly not a guarantee, especially if he's still working out some kinks.

No, I'm talking about when the XM's are totally 100% ready to go. Once all the people that have been waiting for years and invested into the development get theirs, I fear that the same situation as the CC2 will happen. Some people make a few batches and call it quits... then the item becomes so rare and hard to get, it's not even worth the effort. I'm hoping this doesn't happen and the XM is available in abundance. But yeah... assuming I'm lucky enough to secure one, all I have to do is meet up with Curt and get it. :)

  7. I love the 7800. I only like a handful of original games for it, but for what it is and the history behind it... it's a great collectible. The controllers are very bad, but can easily be modded or hacked into to make a true arcade stick or even a game pad.

The worst part about the 7800 is the sound. The only 2 games that have superior sound are the POKEY games, Commando and Ballblazer. The best thing are the homebrew possibilities... especially with the XM if everyone gets a chance to get one someday. ;)

And how cool is it that it can play 2600 games? Very cool.

The perfect set up will be and XM, arcade stick, and an SD cart if one ever gets made. ;)

  8. I would never do it, but I am so tempted to go visit Curt and hand him some cash for an XM... since I live about a half hour from him. :( But I get that those who funded the project up front should get these first. I just hope nothing gets in the way of a second batch being made. I absolutely have to have one of these. :)

  9. I use what I believe is called the Competition Pro. It's got cherry switches, 2 big red buttons, and a nice euro arcade style stick. It works in conjunction with a functional stock 5200 controller, but it makes a huge difference when playing games. They pop up on ebay once in a while. I strongly recommend finding one.

  10. I say get one... It's stylish, It's retro, and It's just plain cool. Get an AV modded one or buy one and have it modded. There are reputable people on this site that can do it at a good price. Make sure you buy a pair of refurbished controllers from Best Electronics. And if collecting actual carts isn't important, get an Atarimax SD cart so you can have all the games. Also... you will definitely want to invest in a Trak-Ball for some of the games that were made for it.

The worst thing about the system are the controller harnesses. The wiring is garbage, so you need to give TLC to them or they will fail... try not to bend them around too much. :) Same goes with the TB harness.

Having a worthwhile 5200 set up is a bit of an investment, but If you really love it for what it is... it wont matter. I'm all about aesthetics so my systems have to be in good to excellent shape... If your the same, try and get a unit that has very little scratches and minimal dings on the aluminum trim. Get a 4 port too if you can.

  11. I know this is random and out of nowhere but, I was just thinking that a Proline style joystick with micro switches would probably work pretty good and be comfortable to use because with micro switches, you don't have to apply too much torque to the stick. It pretty much moves up, down, left, right with ease, even with one finger. Same with the buttons. just give it a slight push with the thumb and there you go. The question is, Are there switches small enough to be retrofitted into the Proline? Why do I get the feeling this has already been done before anyway? LOL!

  12. In the past groovy opens up a pre order and anyone who wants to purchase he allows it and sets a cut off date. He doesn't set limited quantities.

    Dibs on one!

That's good news... I wish everyone did that. Some people make a few things, sell them off and by the time others find out about it, They're gone for good.
