I picked up a Dreamcast last weekend with everything plus 3 games. The week before, a Genesis with 20 games.

Well since you brought up the whole $2 yard sale find.... :)
Tommy17 replied to BatmiteReturns's topic in Atari 2600
Nice deal. I picked up a Sega Genesis this morning in a garage sale for $20. The guy wanted $25 and you would have thought I was killing him to bring the price down $5. LOL. -
What I was looking for was simply: 1) Can it be done ? 2) Where would you find a programmer ? 3) A ballpark figure. If it's $5000, fine. If it would be $15,000. Fine. I wanted a barometer to see if it was really possible to do it. I have to admit though that $5000 is allot more than I expected but now I know. I also did not know that programming the 2600 was difficult work. Again, now I know. As for the Kiss aspect... If I was going to invest (which is probably the wrong word right now) in having a game made, I would indeed seek permission from Kiss. I am still shocked that they never got in bed with Atari. It seems like it was the only stone not turned over by them. They have Kiss Kondems for Christ sake !!! As a Kiss Kollector, I've seen and purchased many items made that I know are not licensed. Some of it is good, some of it is crap. If worse came to worse, I would have the game made for myself and not sell it or promote it publicly.

It seems that my ship came in while I was at the airport again. I am thinking about opening an arcade and wanted to have a room where you could play the classic consoles.

Where was the place ? New York ? Substitute the cigar for a cigatrette, the martini for a whiskey and soda and I am there.

That's all well and good, and I can understand your point, but what about people who are new to AA and honestly don't know ? Like myself. I did want to see the possiblilty of hiring a programmer. And to be honesty, I still don't know if it's possible or not. I've had nothing to say because I've been too busy sorting through all of the negative responses. I am not going to apologize for asking a question and expecting a reasonable reply.

"Tommy17" hasn't posted a single thing because all I wanted to know was how feasable it was. I didn't need allot of the condesending, holier than thou bull-sh**. I am fairly new to AA and wanted to see if it could be done. A few answers to a question. That's all. Nobody here knows my financial situation and frankly, it's none of anyone's business. I'll make my own decision as to if I am willing to spend, or how much to spend on a project. I am sorry that I posted the question now. Some of you people are waaayyy to anal. For the few people who did read the post and answered intelligently, thank you. Tommy #17

And my well-worn Vectrex is now being treated like platinum. Of course, when I was a kid it was treated like everything else, which means it fell off of a table once. Still worked afterwards, fortunately. My VCSes and 5200s are treated with similar care and dignity. I baby just about all my stuff, actually. VCS to DreamCast. ... Except my GameBoy. It gets treated pretty poorly. Not harsh enough to break it, though. Ah, Vectrex. I remember that well. I am really starting to miss my Odyssey2 now.

I would bet that one of them was / is a fanatical Kiss fan and might like the challenge. I wouldn't expect them to make a game for free. That'll work. When / if I find a programmer, what time should I send them over to you ?
-
Yeah. What do they call it, a "homebrew" ? I wouldn't mind seeing an idea of mine come to life. My thought would be to pay a certain amount for the programming and then give a percentage of sales as well. I would be on control of the packaging, marketing, etc.. My idea, and don't laugh, is for a Kiss game. As a fan and collector, I know that allot of people would be into it. My plan would be to sell enough of the games to collectors of both Kiss and Atari fans to break even or just lose anough money where it wouldn't hurt. LOL. What I would get out of it would be to have a game that I always wanted but never had.

Does anyone know how / who / where to contact a programmer for an idea for an original 2600 game ? I was just curious of the cost to hire someone to do it.

*cough cough* Atari Age Store *cough cough* I recommend Marble Craze, Gunfight, Thrust+, QB, SCCIcide, Euchre. . . LMFAO !!

I have been treating my Genesis like it was made of gold. And now that I have a 2600 again, that too will be pampered. It's funny because my PSX with the mod-chip in it is now treated like the wicked step-mother. LOL.

I would like to apologize for the numerous posts of the 2112 photo. I have no idea how so many got posted like that. Tommy #17

You are very welcome. I am glad that you and everyone else is enjoying it. As I said, I couldn't find anything decent on the web. What's the old saying ? If you want something done right, you do it yourself ? LOL. That is cool that the kids showed interest in the games. My two little ones are having a blast with the 2600. The Xbox, PSX ,etc. is cool, but there is something special about the old classic. The only clue to when it was made was on the back of the catalog. There is a copyright date of 1981. I have an extra one if you want it. I also have one catalog with a 1982 date. It states 49 games. Tommy #17

Now of I could just come up with some screen shots.

Ok. Here it is.

I am going to have to check out Funcoland. I forgot all about that place. I know what you mean. I remember this one store by me that had the consoles going all around the store. Each one had a different cart in it. You could stay there all day and play without buying a thing and the guy could have care less. Ah, the good old days....
-
Glad that you liked it. I saw one guy who made a KISS version of it and it gave me the idea to do a Rush one.

Thanks for putting that cool screensaver together, dude!! How many slides are there in it? I only watched it for a couple minutes. Not a problem. Just a little contribution to the Atari lover community. There are about 30 slides. I put in the games that I have, a couple of pictures of the console itself and a few other things. I am glad that you liked it. Enjoy.

Thanks. Yeah, I like that one too. It's my wallpaper in fact.

Hello. Being that I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for in a 2600 desktop theme, I decided to make my own. If anyone cares to check it out, you can download it by going to my website. The link is http://tommy17.com You'll see the link on the page on the right. Tommy #17

You are probably right. I wish I had disposable income to do it just because I wanted to. I would love to see what the public reaction / response would be. In the end, I would just be catering to the diehards like us. I know exactly what you mean. I didn't want to get rid of my original system and games. When I got married and moved out my parents house, I left it in storage and thought it was safe until I could get it. Nope. My Dad decided to clean the basement and threw the damn thing out. I could have killed him. I have two sons, ages 6 and 3, and I have the presence of mind to keep things around as opposed to throwing them out. Hear, hear. I raise my glass to the programmers as well.
