  1. http://www.atariguide.com had it last I checked.
  2. Old-school = The Epyx Slix Stik. (Atari/Commodore-compatible). Modern = Dual Shock 2 (PS2).
  3. I'm stuck at Report #2, the big plant boss who has the president captured. I think the plant cheats. Even though I watch the vines and press the arrows, nothing happens. It's as though the controller is not working (and yet it works perfectly everywhere else). I'm getting totally frustrated with my inability to beat this boss.
  4. Amazing. I can literally go forever on Chopper Command, Phoenix, and Dig Dug. The KEY is to look for patterns. These old games are very repetitive, so you watch the choppers/planes and observe that they only move within a limited space, so you sit *outside* that space, and attack the suckers. So, if you have a game you have problems with... sit back and watch how it operates. Look for the patterns and use those patterns to avoid/destroy your enemies. Like the condor in Pitfall 2. Sit back and watch how the condor flies, and you'll see a very predictable pattern. Now for me, the games that make me bang my head against the wall are puzzle games. Like SwordQuest. Or Zelda. I can stare at a puzzle all day, and still not know how to solve it. .

    Pitfall

If you had read the instructions (available online), you'd know how to go down ladders. You'd also know that when you fall, you can "float" left or right until you hit a platform and thereby save yourself from death. When I first got Pitfall 2, I used the "fall down" method to rapidly view and map the game. You can fall ~30 levels until you splash in the river at the bottom.
  6. Kepone? I don't see a message from kepone? Guess it was deleted. Ebay sent me an email... your credit card is not accepting charges. Well yeah, it was stolen. I wonder what would happen if I refused to give them a new card? They'd lose about $100 worth of fees, and I assume I'd get kicked off. How hard is it to create a new account? Lost Monkey == asshole;
  7. Well, let's stack them up: NINTEDO GAMECUBE = $99 - 3 awesome games for free: Legend of Zelda 1, Ocarina of Time, and Masks of Majora - 1 sucky game: Adventure of Link - and your parents will give you two extra games like Metroid Prime or Eternal Darkness which are both awesome - Total = one console + 5 good games MICROSOFT X BOX = $180 - 2 awesome games for free: Star Wars Clone Wars, Jet Set Radio - 2 lousy games for free: Tetris Worlds, Sega GT bonus disc. - Total = one console + 2 good games I'd go with the Cube if it was me. In fact, I did just a few weeks ago. :-) .
  8. Do you find surviving the first Ms. Pac-Man maze to be impossible? Do you think the Space Invaders move too fast and un-predictably? Are you one of the unlucky people who DIE in Pitfall 2 (even though David Crane made you invincible)??? If so, this thread's for you! Tell us all about your frustrations with these "hard" Atari games like Fun With Numbers, Air-Sea Battle, and Ernie's Alpha Beam... or whatever else makes you throw the joystick against the wall.

    Pitfall

The problem is not the game. The problem is your lack of patience. In Pitfall 2 all you have to do is wait for the enemy to pass, and then run. So it becomes a game of Wait-Run-Wait-Run. If you lack patience to wait, then you will keep dying. As for the original Pitfall, if you run to the left it's a lot easier to survive, because the logs roll the same direction that you are running. http://www.gamefaqs.com provides a walkthrough to explain how to beat the game.
  10. The 5200/7800 were designed in the same time period. 5200 was 1982 and 7800 was 1983-84, so the style was almost exactly the same. In contrast, the 2600 Woodgrain was designed in 1976-77... 5 years earlier when woodgrain was in vogue. See, if you study the "look" of electronics, you'll notice that they all look basically the same during certain periods. The late 70s was the woodgrain look with black plastic and woodgrain panels pasted to the front of everything (2600 and TVs and stereos). The early 80s was black with silver highlights (5200/7800). Late 80's was a transition period, and 90s was just flat black (stereos, TVs) or cream color (computers). Now in the 2000s, electronics are returning to the black and silver combination. So anyway, the 2600 was built in the Woodgrain era and the 5200/7800 were built in the Black w/ Silver Highlights era.
  11. Got a call from MasterCard. They asked if I spent $3000 at Wal-Mart and $1500 at PEI (Playboy.com I think?) in California. Well, I live in Pennsylvania which is 3000 miles away, so I said, "No." Fortunately, I'm not obligated to pay these stolen charges. I'm kinda curious how they got my number. That card isn't even used by me except for Ebay and Yahoo, so I'm thinking maybe a disgruntled employee stole the numbers and went shopping.
  12. Same thing happened with the VCR I sold. The guy had over 1000 feedback, so when he said, "I will mail the check" I trusted him. Then about 5 days after I mailed the VCR, he wrote back, "I don't want the VCR. I bought from a different auction." ASS. The ebay rules explicitly say you CAN NOT change your mind after you win the auction. Anyway, after I called the Boulder Sheriff, and the Sheriff contacted the non-paying buyer, he returned the VCR. Unfortunately, the buyer choose to stuff the VCR full of peanuts, and it looks like he took a hammer to the case. ASS.
  13. You mean Tidus' father Jecht? I had trouble beating him too, so I went back to the very last save sphere and spent ~5 hours randomly fighting mosters. That gave me enough strength to beat Jecht. The method I use is: (1) Fill up all the Aeons overdrive gauges. (2) Save to heal my party. (3) Collect the crystals and run away from all battles. (3) Fight Jecht. (4) Call all the aeons and cast "overdrive" repeatedly. (5) This will bring Jecht down to around ~10000 points. (6) Finish him with Holy. Congrats. You beat the game. And yes, the ending is worth all that effort.
  14. FF10-2's job system is exactly the same as FF5. But instead of "crystals" they call them "spheres". Also, FF10-2 lets you change jobs during battle which FF5 did not allow. This will probably sound funny, but I assigned my jobs based upon which costumes were the most revealing! Like so: Yuna - Thief (cleavage and ultra-mini mini skirt) Rikku - Warrior Paine - Black Mage (very sexy! with bare midriff!) and White Mage (cute!)
  15. I don't believe you. But it seems like a good idea to me. Trade in your old SNES/PS1 titles for the newer GBA/PSP versions and pay a nominal fee (say $10) to cover the cost of materials. Nintendo/Sony could then offer the "refurbished" SNES/PS1 games on the internet for old-school collectors. Or else just recycle them.
  16. If the PSP could play all the old PS1 titles, it would be an instant success. Hmmm... maybe they could provide a "trade in your PS1 disc for PSP disc" offer, so you could play your favorite games on the run.
  17. Did Dug is a fun game, but it's too easy. Even on the arcade version, you can go 10 levels without hardly trying.
  18. Same with gas stations. 5 years ago the credit price was 5 cents per gallon higher to cover the charge fee.
  19. re: Fees. I used to work for JCPenney. They buy items at $10. But they charge $40 which is a 400% markup (as do all stores). Why is the extra $30 added? FEES. They charge you for: - building taxes/rent - lights/heating - advertising - wages - stolen items Those fees are included in the price. And they charge $10 for shipping (if you want to ship from one store to another). I do exactly the same on Ebay, but my fees are included in the shipping/handling. Why? Because sometimes I sell items at only 1.00. The $5 cover my costs, and the $1 is my profit. It's a simple and efficient method of making sure my costs are covered.
  20. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! At ~30 cents per envelope, I never have to worry again about scronging for old boxes/envelopes. Thanks!
  21. It's getting to the point where Ebay-related fees are so high, that I can't make any money off internet auctioning. Actually nothing's changed. It's just that I've been paying more attention to my budget: 0.40 Listing fee + 10-day extension 1.00 Final value fee (average) 1.00 Paypal fee (average) 2.00 envelope 2.00 shipping 1.00 miscellaneous (gas, tape, foam, etc) ================ $7.40 And then I get goofball customers who complain that my shipping/handling fee of $5 is too high. I have no choice. I have to cover my expenses unless I want to start going into debt. Then on top of these normal feed... I get bounced checks which cost me $25 fee. Or non-paying buyers which waste my time and force me to relist my auction (thereby losing more money in listing fees). It's aggravating. (steps off soapbox)
  22. http://www.cheapassgamer.com lists some great deals on Cube games!
