Saw these two games at Sears today for a cheap price ($20). I'm 99% certain I want to pick up Sly Cooper tomorrow during my lunch break. But what about Jak & Daxter #1? The reviews I've read didn't sound so great. Is it worth buying at only $20?

Best *piece of crap* of each generation?
RCmodeler replied to MegaManFan's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The Dreamcast, Xbox, Cube, and PS2 are called the "128-bit generation consoles". It's just a NAME thrown around by the media, and not meant to be technically accurate. The "128-bit generation is just a randomly chosen name like "Generation X". From a technical point-of-view, the bitness of a machine is defined by the instruction set. Atari and NES used 8-bit instructions. Intellivision and Super NES used 16-bit instructions. PS1, N64, Cube, Box, PS2, and your PC all use 32-bit instructions. The only CPUs (so far) to use 64-bit instructions are the IA64 and other super-high-end processors. These are mainly used by labs and other power users. Definitely NOT used in consoles. -
TI-99/4A : Console or Computer?
RCmodeler replied to RCmodeler's topic in Classic Console Discussion
A computer should be programmable *out of the box* without requiring any other add-ons. So that would make the Odyssey2 a console (since it was not programmable by the user). -
"If the CUSTOMERS spent more time focusing on GAMEPLAY instead of money on giant dev teams for graphics and sound....." You can't blame the developers. It's the customers' fault for being stupid enough to buy a game just because it looks pretty. When the customer learns to say, "I don't care how it looks...how does it play?" then gaming will it improve. I often use that phrase, but most of the time it falls on the deaf ears. Sad.

Reduce the price to $100 just like the Gameboy. As long as Gameboy is cheaper, I will buy that. And please, don't say, "But it includes a cell phone and other crap," because I don't need a second cell phone or other crap. I just need the games.

Super Mario Advance 4 : Super Mario Brothers 3
RCmodeler replied to SS's topic in Modern Console Discussion
This is how Nintendo can claim they are making a "profit" each month. They take old Super Nintendo, spend approximately $1 per cart on porting programmers, and then sell it for $50. A ~$49 profit! If Nintendo didn't have all these old SNES--->GBA ports, they'd be losing mucho dollars on the GameCube. -

This coming from you? What? The Xbox, Cube, and PS2 are all good "128-bit"* systems. I can't say that any of them are junk. * 128-bit according to the press... -
Getting a BOX.... what games are must haves?

Interesting. Although she's not really a girl. She's definitely a woman. And a very attractive one too! I wonder why they chose to call it N.U.D.E.? Yeah, that looks like a good cartoon-style game. I'm curious how it will play. -
I see. I wonder why? Given the current demand for 3D games, I wonder why Nintendo did not release a 3D portable similar in power to the PS1?

Do I really need to answer that? (sigh) Okay then... how about Virtua Tennis and Soul Calibur 2. (rolls eyes in disbelief) -

And seeing as it sold millions of units and lasted 3 years in the US(it's STILL being sold in Japan), I don't consider it a failure. DC sold ~6 million. When your competition sells 30 million and 100 million units (N64 & PS1 respectively), then 6 million is a flop. That's only 4% of the market... lousy. JAPAN: Where's the Dreamcast on this chart? I don't see it. It's a flop over there too. Console Hardware Sales Chart (Sep 1 - Sep 7, 2003) System / Total Sales in 2003 GBASP 1,670,484 PS2 1,707,330 GCube 467,316 GBA 653,105 PSone 44,957 Xbox 59,513 WonderSwan Crystal 34,344 -
Most *Technically* Advanced machine of each generation?

The Final Fantasy characters were definitely not hi-res, so maybe it was just the pre-drawn backgrounds? The backgrounds don't really look hi-res though...not to my eyes. -

pre-85: Intellivision (face it... these games are rather forgettable) -or- Atari 5200 (lousy analog joysticks) post-85: 16-bit: 3DO 32-bit: Jaguar (nice try... but gamers didn't buy it) 64-bit: Dreamcast (controllers have same flaw as original Xbox controller...too big!... and the 1.0gig CD is too small for decent games) 128-bit: None... they're all pretty good IMHO. -

PS1 MODE RESOLUTION -4- 640x480 Well, I'll be jiggered. I had no idea that PS1 could do this. I always thought only the N64 could do hi-res. When your competition sells 30 million and 100 million units (N64 & PS1 respectively), then 6 million is a flop. (When the console sells so poorly that Sega abandons the hardware market, that can also be called a flop.) -

The Amiga was also turned into a game console. I *thought* it was called CDTV, but maybe I'm mis-remembering. -

I see a lot of assholes. If I was gay, that'd be a real turn on. -
Original topic: http://www.psxnation.com/Forum/cgi-bin/iko...t=ST&f=1&t=3422 DREAMCAST was introduced during the N64/PS1 generation. It came too early, flopped, and then died. I don't even consider it a part of this generation. GAMECUBE has been a severe disappointment for me. Simply put, I don't like the sequels Nintendo created. X-BOX... haven't really played enough to fairly judge the console, but what I've seen in demos has not impressed me. Too much emphasis on graphics, and not enough on fun. That leaves the PLAYSTATION 2 as my favorite. It has plenty of flaws, but it's still the best of this generation.

[Please stick to consoles *available in America*... no Famicoms or Wonderswans.] What's your opinion? Most *Technically* Advanced machine of each generation?
RCmodeler replied to RCmodeler's topic in Classic Console Discussion
1. True 2. False. The original PlayStation can actually draw more polygons than N64 can. 3. True 4. False. PlayStation has some games that are in 640x480 resolution. 2. I find that hard to believe, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Have you got stats for N64 vs. PS1 polygon-drawing ability? 4. PS1 games in 640x480 resolution? NOT! The PS1 can't draw greater than 320x200 (240 overscan). You can not name a single game that exceeds that resolution. -

Ohh man.....you make no sense at all. .....Take the Jaguar and 3DO as examples. Both these systems crossed the bridge in between 2D and 3D consoles. Is that not important? You are way too sensitive. Calm down. They're just pieces of plastic and metal. For me systems like Jaguar & Dreamcast are examples of poorly-timed releases. They fell right in the middle of a generation, and the result was a total flop. -
TI-99/4A : Console or Computer?
RCmodeler replied to RCmodeler's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The Amiga was turned into a console called the CDTV... of course it was too late. Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis had already claimed the 16-bit generation. The Amiga is the reason I skipped the NES & SNES generation. The Amiga was so advanced that it made everything else look like crap. Not until the PS2 was released did games impress me again. -
One problem was that the kids didn't understand the point of the game. Like Tetris.... it would have been nice if someone had told them, "The idea is to fill up an entire row so that it disappears... if the screen fills with blocks, you lose." Dito with Donkey Kong: "The goal is to score as many points as possible." It's obvious from the comments that these kids didn't know the goals of the games. Even we had instruction manuals so we could understand what each blob on the screen was supposed to represent and do.

Which Art style do you prefer? Xenogears or FF 7/9?
RCmodeler replied to RCmodeler's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Can you name some? - Soul Edge is not. It's got a polygon arena and polygon characters but the background is just a flat picture. Ditto Dead or Alive. - The Final Fantasies are totally 2D except for the polygon characters. - Xenogears is full 3D, but the characters are flat, pre-drawn sprites. Ditto Vandal Hearts & FF Tactics. I can't think of any PS1 game that is a 100% polygon world? -
Panasonic is a good company. I have a VCR that is ~20 years old, and still works! (I had to replace the belts once...that's it.) My Panasonic TV was dropped down a flight of stairs... still works. Maybe Sony should get Panasonic to make their next-generation PS3?
