  1. Yeah, we're almost as bad as those Trekkie losers... (ducking and running)
  2. You hate Sony? So no Walkman? Or Sony TV? Or Sony VCR? Or Sony stereo? Or Sony boombox? You have absolutely nothing in your home with Sony stamped on it? Sorry. I just don't understand how anyone can say they "hate Sony" when Sony makes so many reliable products. Sony is to electronics what Honda is to cars (reliable & good reputation).
  3. Can the PS1 handle an "all polygon" game... both backgrounds and characters? Seems that you'd be pushing PS1 beyond what it could do. Also, looking at the all-polygon world & polygon characters of FF10, I think I still prefer FF7's artist-drawn backgrounds. FF7 had multiple level and intricate mazes to pass through while FF10 was totally flat and linear. A lot can be done with pre-drawn backgrounds. Just look at the last Resident Evil & Eternal Darkness.
  4. Here's how I'd define them: Pre-crash (77-84): Atari, Intellivision, Colecovision 1985-90: NES, SMS, 7800 1991-95: S-NES, Genesis, Neo Geo 1996-00: PS1, N64, Saturn 2000-05: PS2, Cube, Xbox The "other" consoles like Jaguar, 3DO, and Dreamcast I'd consider abberations... either too late or too early to make any long-term impact on the world... and therefore not worth remembering or categorizing.
  5. Yeah, the old "if we use oil, we destroy the planet and ourselves" story. It's been done to death so many times that it's boring. Anyway, another quote from that essay I found:
  6. Xenogears = A polygonal world overlaid with pre-drawn sprite characters Final Fantasy 7/9 = A pre-drawn world (background) overlaid with polygonal characters. ME: I prefer the FF7/9 look. It's more artistic with greater detailed environments to wander around in. FF7: XENOGEARS:
  7. I find the concept difficult to believe. Assuming that this gadget contains Gameboy Advance hardware, how is it possible to pass all that video/sound/control data through the Flash RAM slot? That's a rather slow interface to carry so much information. I think I'd go with the Nintendo-approved/designed Gameboy Player.
  8. I already own a PS2 and Cube. The next time Microsoft drops the price, I plan to add an X-box to my collection. I already have a list of games I want to get: - Halo.... NOT! (I hate first-person shooters) - Dead or Alive 3 - Dead or Alive: XXX Volleyball (heh... my first dating game! - Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Oddworld: Munch's Oddyssey - Morrowind - Banjo-Kazooie 3 Any others I should add? (ASIDE: Anyone know what the N.U.D.E. Natural Ultimate Digital Experiment game is about? It seems that Xbox is becoming like the old Atari 2600 & Commodore=64... a place for fringe adult entertainment.) -------------- http://www.thelibertycommittee.org U.S. House of Representatives - The Liberty Caucus - "to restore individual liberty & freedom in the United States"
  9. Yeah okay. So anyway getting back on topic: The PS1 had CDs which gave it more storage room, but the N64 was more advanced in every other aspect: - Faster processor (~3 times faster) - More colors/polygons - More on-board storage (memory) - Higher max resolution (640x480 for N64 vs. 320x200 for PS1) Overall the N64 was the more advanced system.
  10. Sorry, no, Atari had nothing to do with the Amiga's development. The Amiga Company was a completely separate entity (until bought by Commodore). The Commodore=64 was designed from the ground up to be a cheap but powerful computer.
  11. Um yep, so I repeat my question: If the GBA's ARM is so much more powerful, how come it can't do games comparable to a PS1 or N64? Why is it like a 16-bit system. The GBA isn't even capable of Atari Jaguar-style graphics. Pretty sad IMHO. I'm curious to see how the new PSP handheld performs.
  12. The PS1 had CDs which gave it more storage room, but the N64 was more advanced in every other aspect: - Faster processor (~3 times faster) - More colors/polygons - More on-board storage (memory) - Higher max resolution (640x480 for N64 vs. 320x200 for PS1) Overall the N64 was the more advanced system. Also, if you want to give credit for introducing CDs to gaming, then you should point to the Windows PC. It was first to use CDs and full-motion/pre-recorded movies. Side-note: Historically the most advanced console is NOT the winner of the console war. Atari 2600, NES, S-NES, PS1, PS2 all won their respective generation... but they were not the most technically advanced system.
  13. You're thinking of the Commodore Amiga. It was designed by the Amiga Company to be a next-generation game machine, but then Commodore bought the company and turned it into a general-purpose computer. Which brings me to my personal definitions of Console & Computer: Console - a device that is primarily designed to play games Computer - a device that is designed for general purpose (whatever the user desires) such as games or letters or checkbook balancing or even turning on/off your lights!* * The Commodore=64 could do this with the addition of a certain peripheral and control software.
  14. Aeris = the planet/lifeforce Jenova = an outside, invading alien Humanity is not the enemy. Humanity is a part of the lifeforce and therefore on the same side as Aeris. Disagree. I think Final Fantasy 3 (alternate title: FF6) deserves that credit. It was an extremely popular game and high in sales. Remember... Final Fantasy 3 was *already* a system seller for the Nintendo 64... people bought N64's just so they could play the next installment. When Square left the N64, it sent shockwaves through the gaming world. Why? Because people LOVED FF3, and they were looking forward to the sequel. FF3 is the RPG that appealed to the majority of gamers.
  15. Please explain: Why does the GBA, which is a 32-bit machine like PS1, have graphics that look like a 16-bit Super Nintendo? I don't get it.
  16. I think it's going to be too easy (for Pac-Man): (1) There are only 3 ghosts... when I play Pac-Man with only 3 ghosts I can empty out dozens of mazes. (2) In the actual arcade game, the ghosts are constantly on your tail because they have omniscience (they know Pac's location at all times). In this new GameCube version, they'll be wandering around randomly... they'll habve no clue where Pac-Man is located... and so they'll be ridiculously easy to avoid. Oh well... I like the concept... I just think the challenge will be lacking for the Pac-Man player.
  17. BTW, I found this essay which I think is rather cool. It describes how Cloud/Sephiroth are NOT the main characters... but instead the main characters in the story are Aeris & Jenova:
  18. This is all very fascinating, but can we just stick to old-fashioned "girl-next-door"-style nudity? I'm not interested in sicko crap.
  19. Two questions: (1) Do you need a GBA to play Pac-Man vs. Pac-Man? (2) What's wrong with I-Ninja?
  20. (see subject) I plan to buy one of them.... just don't know which?
  21. [Please stick to consoles *available in America*... no Famicoms or Wonderswans.] What's your opinion? For me: CONSOLES 8-bit (pre-85) : Colecovision 8-bit(post-85) : Sega Master System 16-bit : Sega Genesis 32/64-bit : Nintendo 64 COMPUTERS: 8-bit : Commodore=64 16-bit : Commodore Amiga 32-bit : ????? Macintosh PowerPC I suppose
  22. I just read on psxnation "the AI in the Quest mode is modeled after real VF players and is quite easier than the arcade AI." Quest mode is easier? I'll concentrate on that then. The arcade is definitely too difficult for me, although I did manage to beat it on the "Hard" setting. Goodbye Tekken Tag... you're next on the ebay chopping block.
  23. I agree with the 3DO porn games, but everything for the Jag? Are you nuts? Have you even played Tempest 2K? Tell me more about this "3DO" gadget and the porn of which you speak.
  24. This guy is an interior designer. He probably got tired of doing boring schools and offices, so he created the Star Trek apartment.... you know, just for fun. He's no more nuts than us who collect 20 different game systems and 10,000+ games which we (almost) never play, (later) I just looked at the pictures. You know, if you removed all the Star Trek references, you'd have a very cool futuristic-looking home. I really like that second picture.
  25. A guy at PSXnation wrote: My memory is fuzzy from 20 years ago, but I recall this device had a keybaord and was programmable, and therefore it was a computer just like the Atari 400 or Commodore VIC-20. So which was it: Computer or Console?
