I just spent the last two evenings playing this game, and I can't decide if I like it or not. Yeah, the ability to do various reversals and counterattacks provides a lot of depth, and a realistic reflection of actual martial arts fighting. But... Do I really want to waste countless hours learning all the various moves to adequately play the game? Or would I prefer a simpler attack/guard game like Soul Calibur? (ponder...)

$70.00 Gamecube. $125.00 X-Box NEW!!
RCmodeler replied to moycon's topic in Modern Console Discussion
This is a punishment?!?!? Kaybee has committed an illegal act (false advertising of regular prices), and in return they get "punished" by offering a huge sale that will REWARD them with more profit? Only in the corporate world. -
$70.00 Gamecube. $125.00 X-Box NEW!!
RCmodeler replied to moycon's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Well, I get frustrated with customers. Today a customer asked me, "How much is this?" ME: "60 dollars" CUSTOMER: "But the sign says 40." ME: "Yes, but it also says Saint Johns Bay brand. You are holding a Streetcar brand." CUSTOMER: "Well you should take it down." ME: "Why? It clearly says Saint Johns Bay brand." CUSTOMER: "I don't care. Take it down." I repeat what I said before: Why can't customers read? -
My favorite home version is the 16-bit Commodore Amiga version. It uses actual digitzed video spanning 6 floppy disks. The flaw with the DVDs is that they don't play smoothly. There are annoying pauses every time you make a choice. Which is why I prefer the Amiga version: It flows smoothly.

Are we in the 80's again and does it suck?
RCmodeler replied to ussexplorer's topic in Classic Console Discussion
(nods head) Yes. Better that than eternal single-ness. -
Which FF games have you NOT played? (and why?)
RCmodeler replied to RCmodeler's topic in Classic Console Discussion
You never played FF5 (Japanese numbering)? -

"...excluding video game systems..." Duh. Why do customers never bother to *read* the whole coupon/sale flyer? -
What "time thing" are you talking about? You mean the active-time bar? That was present in FF4,5,6. It was nothing new or special.

RC...buddy...i'm a perv in just about every sense of the word, but even i draw the line at boinkin' little 13 year old girls. Strawman argument. I didn't say that. In fact, I specifically said I would NOT touch a child (or "girl").

Well, there's no reason to have nudity in movies either, but it's still there. If movies can include gratutious nudity for no reason (Titantic), why not games? What I'd like to see is a game similar to the Love Hina series. Just a bunch of silly stuff, except that you actually control the character. i.e. Be a prude and do nothing..... or be a lecher and seduce the girls. . As for incest, that doesn't bother me. Pedophilia... depends how old. Children is just wrong, but a teenager is okay. I don't consider a teenager to be a child. Rape I hate.

Anyone Broke the Media Mail Post Office Law?
RCmodeler replied to SpendTooMuchOnAtari's topic in Auction Central
Recently I used an old shoe box to send an audio book. I used "media mail" of course. Anyway, the next day I received a call from the postmaster. There were some "shoe rods" (things to hold the shoe in shape) that I had inadvertantly left inside. So I told him to throw out the rods and just ship the book. He agreed. He also said that the post office is now inspecting media mail due to lots of recent violations, so please be more careful in the future. -
P.S. Where did the pictures come from? I want to see more.

I like customizable characters, but I also like a reflection in reality. The goal of RPGs is to try to create a realistic world in which to play. Even though it's fantasy, the game designer tries to follow a realistic and consistent set of rules. In the real world, it takes TIME to learn new skills. FF10 reflects this reality (you can turn Yuna into a black mage like Lulu, but it takes ~20 hours of game time). Ditto FF9/6/5. Learning new skills takes time. Even in D&D, where you can customize your characters, once you start the game, you're stuck with what you've got. You can change, but it takes several hours to learn the new skills (like real life). In FF7, reality is thrown out the window. You can teach Cloud to be a tree-hugging, baby-kissing White Mage instantaneously (just switch Materia from Tifa to Cloud). When Aeris died, I just shrugged my shoulders, and I gave Aeris' materia to Tifa. Ditto with Cait Sith; gave his materia to Cid. They are simply walking materia slots... completely interchangeable. Such instantaneous learning is a serious flaw from my POV. And then there's the story. I don't think it's anything special. To me, it's just the modern world turned into a game. Substitute -"materia is running out/destroying the world" with -"oil is running out/destroying the world", and you'll see what I mean. It's basically a pro-environmental tale taken from the modern world with some Japanese mythobabble thrown in.

Now see, nudity might actually make DOA: XXX Volleyball fun. I tried the demo, and was totally bored, but throw in some nude women, and I'm sure I'd be playing the game at least once a day. You see, I have a good appreciation for the beauty of the female form. That's why I visit the beach so much. As for that Battle Raper... it was just wrong. Sex is only fun if your partner ENJOYS herself. When Sould Calibur: The Nude Edition, that's exactly what I meant. Just good, clean fun with clothing optional gaming. Gigolo: You should try Drive-In. It's pure text, but it has what you want: Sitting in a car with a girl and trying to get her clothes off (hint: it involves lots of slow rubbing... just like real life... until she's so turned on she wants it as much as you do). Also look here: http://www.jlist.com/R/HENTAI/ The flaw with these games is that they are not interactive. Basically, you just watch rather than do the action. I guess we need to wait a little longer for PCs to become more advanced.

If I were making a porn game, I'd probably make it a *life simulator*. You'd dress yourself, go hang out at the club, grab a girl, and then work your magic back in her apartment. But then the question is: Why waste time playing a life simulator when you can go out and *do the real thing*? Oh that's right... for the same reason people played Animal Crossing. They have no life. . Another possibility is to take a normal game like Soul Calibur and just strip off all the clothes. It would be just for fun of seeing the ladies naked.

I'd rank FF7 as #2. #2 WORST game that is. Right after Final Fantasy 2 on the Original Nintendo. . IMHO 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, & 10 were all superior. Even 8 was superior which is a pretty serious slam against FF7. I know everyone raves about the story, but for me: - FF9's story was far more fun (humorous/cute/loveable). - FF10 was far more emotional and compelling. - FF5 had the awesome job system to provide infinite replayability. - FF6 was the most epic and tragic. In FF6 the bad guy actually WINS and destroys the world. And the characters ALL have fascinating backstories. And even when you "win" the game, the world is still a horrendous mess. No happy endings here. (Except hope... there is hope for a better future!) FF7 gets all the hype, but FF6 actually *deserves* it, because it's by far the best game. (And don't go saying "FF6 sucks" if you've never played it.) MY RANKING: 1 FF6 - Terra, Kuja, and all the other awesome characters 2 FF10 - Yuna's gut-wrenching/tear-jerking journey 3 FF9 - Vivi was my favorite + great humor + great battle system 4 FF5 - awesome battle system for infinite replayability 5 FF4 - eh not bad 6 FF3 - eh 7 FF8 - great story/sucky game 8 FF7 - walking materia slots and a boring story 9 FF2 - worst FF ever FF1 not played yet (and probably never will... it's seriously lacking in story and playability). Yep, FF7 is definitely the 2nd WORST in the series In my opinion.
