  2. quote: Originally posted by ubersaurus: The weakness of cart commander is the lack of having more systems. I mean, wheres the Super NES or channel f? Go to "Tools->Options..." then choose the third tab on the dialog called "Platforms". You can add the platform there. Once you are done with that, you can then load your list in and choose "Tools->Verify Manufactures" and it will ask you if you want to create a list of Manufactures for this list. Tell it yes. Once that is done, send me the .INI file for the platform you created. It will be in the Cart Commander directory.
  3. quote: Originally posted by Sylentwulf: I really like cart commander, but it would be SOOOOO much easier if they had a list of every game/instruction/overlay/etc built in or downloadable with checkboxes or something similiar, I know, huge undertaking, just my three cents. That is what the Master Lists are for. There are currently master lists for the more popular consoles (2600, Intellivision, Coleco, etc..). When you go to "Cartridges->Add" the "Add" dialog will come up. At the top is the list of Master Lists available in the drop down. Choose a list and then you can "Check" which games you want added to your list. The lists are farily complete, but not 100%. Over time, those lists should get better.
  4. quote: Originally posted by moycon: Well the boards abuzz with updating older games graphics and making them prettier. Figured I start a topic where you list a game that needs a "facelift" and what you would do to make it more look better. Who knows maybe someone will get inspired. I'll start with Parker Brothers Popeye. I remember as a kid I was very excited that Popeye was coming to the 2600...I loved that game in the arcades. At the time it came out that truely was the cutting edge in Arcade game graphics... It was like you were controling a cartoon!! I then saw the ad in the back of a comic. PB used to advertise their games by showing a screen shot for each system at the bottom. The Atari as usual had the suckiest graphics... What made it even worse when I got it...No barrel to drop on Bluto, No Sea Hag, Bland minimalistic graphics. This is definately a game that needs a facelift!!! My Vote is for Pong. Since when were balls square anyway?

If you think you're good at a game, maybe you should be checking on twin galaxies site. www.twingalaxies.com They track all the high scores for all the platforms (computers too). Take a look there and then come back and tell me if you're the best
  6. OK, I collect: Atari 2600 Atari 5200 Atari 7800 Atari Lynx Atari Jaguar Atari 800 (Carts Only so far) Intellivision Colecovision Odyssy2 (Never could spell that ) Vic-20 Commodore 64 NES Tokens (for Arcade Games) And the biggest of them all... Arcade Games. If you think your Cart Collections take up a lot of room trying collecting Arcade Games. I currently have 23 cabinets (most are complete, about 5 need the rest of the "Parts" to make them whole again). Plus I have boards, etc.. for a total of > 30 games. If you want to know how much space that takes up, buy 23 refridgerators and put them in your house :-)
  7. I think we need another rarity as well. Rarity 0. This would be for: Combat Asteroids Pac-Man Games that almost everyone has 2 or 3 copies of each and can't give away.
  8. quote: Originally posted by Secret Quest: People like this drive me crazy. I never overcharge people on shipping. The most this should cost is $7. I once shipped a 7800 and 20 games to California from Massachusetts priority mail for $8. All I know is he better be using express mail or some very expensive packing material. Yahoo auction I only bid on items that state "Buyer pays actual shipping" or has a fixed amount that I can live with. A priority mail box that could hold about a dozen carts should be less than $4 for pretty much anywhere in the US.
  9. quote: Originally posted by Atarimania: This one is bigger : http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?V...item=1272480801 with a lot of rare games : GYRUSS, MONTEZUMA'S REVENGE, MR. DO!'S CASTLE, Q*BERT'S QUBES, TOMARC THE BARBARIAN, MOTOCROSS RACER..... Incredible.... Wish I had the spare $. Its a steal at $2K, that comes out to less than $6 a cart. Not bad for some of the titles he has.
  10. Ok, I just picked up a Sears Tele-Games Video Arcade II off eBay and would like to find out more about it. So far I know its basically an Atari 2800, however, what else is special about it? It has 4 joystick ports, is it possible to have a 4 player game on it? (Other than padles) Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  11. quote: Originally posted by JagDiesel: If you bought any games/systems there 6 months to 18 months ago, I probably had my grubby paws on it.. and most of their classic stuff, hell, I fixed them up and put the systems together. that one guy that used to be a part owner, he ran off with a ton of the good stuff, including about 40 complete systems and better than 2000 games for the various systems.. hey, do you have any goodies for trade? Yeah, I found the place about a year ago, if I remember correctly. Someone told me that they had Atari 2600 carts so I decided to check them out. I went there about 15 mins before they closed and asked about the 2600 carts. They brought out 3 or 4 boxes of them. I went through all the boxes in about 15 mins :-) I picked out the ones I knew for sure I didn't have. I came back the next day with my friend Ron and we went though and picked out the rest that we didn't have and some dupes in case some didn't work, or I needed trade material. I think we paid about $.75 a cartridge. The best one I found there was a Frogger II (most of the label missing). I also picked up a lot of C64, Vic-20, Intellivision, and Coleco vision cartridges from there as well. I've had OK luck with a couple thrift stores, but not very often. I found a Snoop Red Baron (in very good shape) for $.65 a month or two ago. As for trades, I have a lot of rarity 3 or less carts, but most are fairly common. You can download my semi-current list from: http://www.arcaderestoration.com/index.asp...sp?OPT=3&CBT=20
  12. quote: Originally posted by JagDiesel: hey fellow Phx collectors, I'm back... Renny at Games- er + sold the stuff to Ryan, this guy that sells Amiga stuff and then he is emailing and calling me to let me know that I can still buy it all, from Ryan. He sold ALL of his preNes stuff for $5500...If i'd offered him $4000 he said he'd have taken it... If anyone has some Odyssey2 rares they'd like to part with, let me know, as I'm clearing out a couple of Atari's, including 2 of my 7800 Expansion port models.. Also, ArcadeNut, there is Pop Culture Classics on Glendale Ave, around 55th ave, they have a decent selection and are reasonable... They HAD a decent selection. Ron and myself added quite a few carts to our collections from what they had :-). That was back when the prices where decent as well. Ever since Heather sold the place, the prices have gone up. The prices are pretty close to what is in the DP Guide now. $2 for an Asteroids? No thanks. I stop by there every once in a while (they are only 5 mins from my house) and I occasionally find something that I don't have. Even then, I only buy it if its a 3 or higher and its cheap. All in all, I've spent about $400 there on carts.

Anybody have any news or rumors on the subject. I think the number (and quality) of recent Homebrews is great and a book like this could only make it better. I would be interested in a book on this subject as well. However, I hope its not a "Dummies" book :-) I already know how to put a cartridge in the machine and turn it on.
  14. quote: Originally posted by ElvisDJ: Hey all, Since I'm waxing nostalgic (and have nothing to do at work), I figured I'd ask a question that I'm sure has been asked before - what was your first big "score" in the wild? Here's mine: My very, very first find happened quite by accident. I was on my way to school one morning and I happened to pass a Salvation Army thrift store. Since I had some time before school, I decided to stop in. This was actually my very first video game related thrift store visit and the first time I had been to this particular store as well. My find? As follows: 2 O2 systems, complete in box An O2 system box filled with boxed carts - 38 in total (no Power Lords, but mostly everything else) 2 Master Strategy Series games (Great Wall Street Fortune Hunt and Conquest of the World) complete in mint boxes. The total for the haul? $8, but it was half price day, so $4! Practically the entire O2 library in one day for $4! Unfortunately it was the last time I found anything at this particular thrift store, and today it's no longer there. I'd be interested in hearing anyone else's stories... Bryan Found a place here in Phoenix (5 mins from my house) called Pop Culture Classics. They had 5 boxes of Atari Carts (loose). Carts were about $.75 each. I spent about $400 on carts there :-) I got several 3 rarity carts and a couple 4's and I think even a 5 rarity (Frogger II). Now they have a new owner and carts like Asteroids and Pac-Man are $2 each. I also hit several thrift stores on my way home about once a week and one of them had a bunch of carts for $.65 each. I picked up a Snoopy's Red Baron for $.65 :-) Most of the times, I don't find anything though. I need to expand my thrift store search area.
  15. quote: Originally posted by Wntermute: I'm up near PV Mall. JagDiesel's in Mesa, and I know you know where Ron Corcoran lives (he's mentioned a Castles & Coasters get-together once or twice) Yeah, Ron is about 15 mins from me (He's at 67th & Dear Valley). I work at Tatum & Shea, so I'm not that far from you. Mesa is BFE to me :-) We'll have to get together one of these days. As for Games+, screw them. I went in to the store here in PV and said "Hey, I have $300 cash, do you want to make me a deal?" and their response was "Well, we're not giving this stuff away!". I should check their new store out and see if they have come down in price. Retail prices for carts they probably wont sell any time soon is crazy.
  16. quote: Originally posted by Pitfall Harry: Consumers have always known that there is a great risk associated with PC games. Can I get it to work on my machine? Maybe if I upgrade the OS, download the latest DirectX drivers, jam another 64 MB into it, disable my virus protection software and do it all without crippling the performance or functionality of the rest of my applications. Maybe if I NEVER install a single new application for as long as I own my computer, my PC game will continue to work okay. Maybe. If, on the other hand, I purchase a game for a console then I know it was made for that machine. I don't have to worry about upgrades and downloads. I know that the uninstall will work perfectly, too, because it will be 100% successful the instant I yank the CD out of my machine. It won't leave any dead .dll or .ocx time bombs behind or inadvertantly delete critical files to screw up future game installs. I step away from my computer and reach for a console whenever I want to play a video game. Knowing that the game will work exactly the way the programmers designed it, that it will work exactly the same way for me as it does with millions of other fellow gamers makes the gaming experience that much more satisfying. There will be no animation stalls while the OS forces a hard disk cache. There will be no annoying popup message boxes informing me that system resources are running low, no phone calls to Microsoft tech support. Nobody should need a degree in computer science to enjoy a video game. On a console, it's just me and the game. No inexplicable hardware glitches, software component upgrades, no bullshit. Insert cartridge, play game. It doesn't get any easier than that. I'd wager there are a few million other consumers out there that feel the same way. Ben Thats all true up the point where MS Releases the X-Box :-)
  17. quote: Originally posted by Wntermute: This must be what JagDiesel was referring to last month. I stopped into Games Plus at 44th & Thomas since I was in the area. When I started browsing the Atari stuff (to get a copy of 7800 Mario Bros. for the coming 7800 TG decathlon), the clerk guy said it was all sold to a local collector.. though it was all still shelved like usual. What really got me was there was still a 2600 in the glass case (console, joystick, AC adapter, switchbox all shrinkwrapped together) that I noticed. The clerk guy said it was $90!!! Then I noticed an X-Eye (Genesis & SegaCD all-in-one) right above it labelled $60 that he offered to me for $50. Of course, I turned him down politely out of principle.. but I might go back for the X-Eye later this week. Hey! Another Phoenix collector! What area of town are you in? I'm in Glendale (63rd and Olive).

I'm looking to fill in a few gaps in my collection and I figure this will be as good a place as any. I'm hoping to find: Blackjack (Picture Label) Crystal Castles (Atari 400/800) Pro Wrestling (7800) Rampage (7800) Lots of boxed 5200 carts I'm missing Tele-Games and Songbird Jag titles at cheap prices A few Sears label variations Prototypes!!!! What is everone else looking for? Tempest Anything not on my lists
  19. quote: Originally posted by twit: Count another vote for a Mac version! I'd love to be able to use that piece of software, and it sounds like your plans for future releases will be quite cool! Well, there is only two ways I am going to do a Mac Version. 1) Borland Ports Kylix to the Mac OS (or it runs under OS X) 2) There is a Delphi clone on the Mac that is free, but doesn't force me to release my code under the GPL. The Linux version is probably going to wait until I can afford Kylix (not the Open Edition).
  20. quote: Originally posted by [hurt]138: so did you use Delphi to code this then, because i could us something like this but for linux and i know that there is Delphi for linux Yes, I am looking into doing a Linux version, however, there hasn't been a very big demand for it. So Far I have 1 vote for MAC and 1 vote for Linux.
  21. Cart Commander 1.2.0.4 is now available for download! There are too many updates to list here, however, this information is available on my site! Please let me know if you have any problems. Cart Commander
  22. quote: Originally posted by Wntermute: Hey Brien.. have any solutions for the Mac users out here? (other than "get VirtualPC" or "get a real computer" .. the former is just a kludge and the latter is just plain rude) Well, thats rather rude that you would assume thats what I would respond with. To answer your question, though, the answer is no. The primary reason is that I don't have a MAC, thus I can not do development work on it. Well, Ok, I do have a MAC LCII in the closet, but with no keyboard or mouse. Is there a Delphi equivalent on the MAC? I heard rumors that someone was doing a "Delphi Clone" on the MAC. If that is true, then there is a chance. However, a slim one.
  23. Thanks for the kind words guys. A new version should be out tonight (Figure 10pm Arizona Time) if I don't hear anything bad from my BETA testers This is the biggest update I've done to it so far. Lots of little things cleaned up. I added several things, the big things to note are: Trade List - Allows you to create a list of all your Dupes on a report so that you know what you have to trade. Good for CGE! Standardized Platform Names - This means everyone should be using Atari 2600 rather than 100 different variations. This will make it easier for future releases to do comparisions. Standardized Manufacturer Names - This is going to be key to helping do accurate cart comparisons. Both of those will also help when I add some Web Enabled features in the next release. Lots of new Master Lists have been added. A good chunk of the Platform Names are already in the list (you can add more via the Options). All the Platforms have a fairly extensive list of Manufactures already. Data Entry has been improved with new short-cut keys, and better logic behind some of the dialogs. There is a long list of improvements in the Release notes. If you have any feature requests feel free to email me. I am very open to suggestions. See you guys at CGE!
