Did you ever solve this?...mine started doing the exact same thing after spraying the volume knob with Deoxit...I really hope it's an easy fix. I have two Vectrex, neither really work well, and would love to find someone locally in Los Angeles especially to repair.

I just got mine and put it together in an old blitz cart(was a bit difficult to install but I got it in). I scored 15 mint games, CIB with overlays and even overlay protectors recently. I removed all the overlays and white envelope protectors from the boxes. This multicart and easy access to the overlays is really gonna give me incentive to log in some more time with the vectrex
