  1. Okay, the more I look at this, and discover the manufacturing options, I could conceivably use all these elements inside a patch cut to the SHAPE of one of the robots, that would be much cooler, especially with an embroidered border, let me check on price
  2. Okay, thinking this for Berzerk patch, will have a BLUE and ORANGE embroidered border all around 4"X2", may go to 5". ALL items would be embroidered, I may go with larger font, an need to delete apostrophe. Now to justify the cost I need to see more interest honestly Should I start a new thread? Thanks everyone,if interest not there no biggy, I just like the idea of re-starting Atari patch hi score culture:) Lee
  3. LOL caught it last night, image I got off google images, thanks:)
  4. PS also not eliminating possibility of using the jaw-dropping original Phoenix art IF it will translate to embroidery Lee
  5. Okay everybody, I *think* I've decided to start with 2 patches for Phoenix and Berserk, talking to the embroidery service about what looks how in the end product, leaning towards %100 embroidered, so far I have come up with 2 design starters from stock image files, thoughts so far? Berserk is just some core elements I want to include, I think all 3 elements will look sharp in embroidery. Text - I was thinking 'High Score Club' for each? Anything desired more kitchy like the Activision patches? 'Intruder Alert'? 'Phoenix Annihilator'? This service has skilled graphic artists who can customize according to the embroidery strengths, so working with them, wanted to check here first Thinking each patch will have a color border, perhaps multiple colors/layers? Feedback most welcome! Lee
  6. Enjoyed the podcast, thank you! My latest as of today, sorry:) Your cast actually gave me the Jones to play:) 218,500
  7. MAN do I stink at Stampede (best 2050), Dragster (best 6.45), HERO (best 62,000), and Keystone (best 21,000), any pointers for each?
  8. 2 more, new to both, Barnstorming so challenging, Spider Fighter is HARD on the thumb, LOVE some Robot Tank which im working on, so addictive
  9. Hi Hi Scorers! Just wanted to put a post here in case some of you havent seen my post in the 2600 forum. My name is Lee, and I am talking to a source about making patches, either reproducing the Activision classics clearly marked 'R' or 'repro', and perhaps creating original patches for homebrew titles, open to suggestions for score award/proof or just having them for sale, I prefer actually requiring score proof for the fun factor, yes I would have to charge for each patch, thinking between $6-$10 per. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/280682-real-activision-repro-patches-high-score-rewards/ Please weigh in if you can! Thank you everybody. Lee
  10. They were offered on release I believe in very limited numbers, maybe 10 or so?
  11. Thanks for feedback everybody! More positive feedback more likely I will do this Okay, IF I do thinking doing 3 Activision and 2 Homebrew, to gauge interest, 20 patches for each title Looks like interest in straight out purchase, but tempted to do it based on score achievement? Yes or no? Activision - My vote is Seaquest, Frostbite, HERO Homebrews - Super Cobra and Draconian, maybe Star Castle? Then if the first batch is popular and goes well, I'd do another? Thoughts? Lee
  12. Hmmm, now I am torn, Activision is tempting, but would be so fun to have people trying for newer homebrew patches, BUT that brings up getting permission from programmers, using the superb art recently (thinking Draconian, Star Castle, Super Cobra, Scramble), patch design, etc.............fun idea...............any more thoughts? Worried that there isnt enough interest for either, i'd need to at least break even, thinking around 8-10$ per patch? Also thinking Space Rocks, LadyBug, maybe Thrust+. Programmer/authors may prefer to do themselves? Lee
  13. Why I play Atari 1. Its what I refer to as 'antique gaming' - I view the VCS as the first widely popular home console, 'archaic' by todays standards, but that makes it about going back to the roots of video gaming, its doesnt get ANY more elemental than ONE stick, ONE button, and just enough technology to finally create a digital gaming experience, that is fun to me. My point is historical in ways, I love to look at the innovation involved, what programmers and engineers were able to do given limitations of the time, right up to watching our brilliant homebrew programmers stepping up to the challenge. BUT in IMO, inherently what we do with the VCS and modern consoles as far as brain/dexterity activity IS the same at the core, its just graphics are so much 'better', BUT when it comes down to it we are still using a controller device to aim electrons on a screen to a certain target to accomplish a goal, on some level in my mind it is NO different now than then, sure perhaps more complex but not necessarily more challenging, 1 button versus 8, 1 joy versus 2. And I guess I use the phrase 'antique gaming' in that the antique community uses 30 years as a benchmark, and the VCS is older than that. 2. Score based - I like when scores mattered, I find it more stimulating, and enjoy having a numerical benchmark, not just depth progress, more mathematical 3. Arcade Gameplay - I do like the 'pick up and play' aspect of arcade gameplay, a quick 5-10 minute fix and game can be over, plus its based in the first games I fell in love with in the arcades, the VCS is in my mind a direct response to the arcade boom, and it is in the games 4. Nostalgia - so I think my brain is conditioned to enjoy the console, as I was seriously teased/deprived as a child:) I wanted a 2600 SO bad at 9, ALL my friends had one, its all I talked about XMas 82, so on XMas morning I woke to.................an Odyssey 2:( Mom would later tell me the nice man at Roses talked her out of the 2600 in favor of the Odyssey 2 because it had a keyboard and was edumcational. I sure got an education, on life and how things can work. PLUS my Mom was one of those parents who wouldnt buy more games "you already have 3, play those! You dont need any more" *scarred* LOL. So NOW when I play 2600, my brain releases chemicals that have stored for many years, its like a neurotransmitter dump:) 5. Abstraction/Imagination - Modern games tell you what the experience is, it is literally rendered for you. The wonderful blocky 'simple' graphics use your brain in a different way, the experience is 'projective', you can see anything in the experience, back in the day our minds seethed with what was 'actually' happening in Adventure, what a Yar looked like varied from player to player (regardless of the label haha). I had a dream last night about Galactopus. He saved my life and then gave me a hundred dollar bill. LOVE how the box/manual/cart art fueled the experience, same as old vinyl.
  14. I'd REALLY like to do this, just not sure the interest is there Toilet - great idea, just feel strongly patches are the only way to go:) SO if I were to do, I doubt the size would be %100 accurate, I have decent pics but would probably do better with hi res scans, anyone have the exact dimensions? Then theres the issue of what to have made, my idea is to start with 5 to gauge interest, was thinking: Seaquest (raise score requirement?) Pitfall (raise score requirement?) HERO Frostbite (raise score requirement?) River Raid (raise score requirement?) OR maybe sub Kaboom DO you guys think theres enough interest? Would patches of different size be not okay? Thoughts? Lee
  15. I was thinking of marking them with a strong 'R' for reproduction Thanks Albert If I do this, I'd run a thread and require screenshot proof, I think it'd be fun
  16. OK, so talking to a source and reproducing the Activision embroidered patches seems VERY doable, I would consider this as a small side business, minimum profit for my time, and would be fun. OR has Albert/AA ever considered? HOW much interest is there for this? We could ALSO come up with patches for other games, and set high score benchmarks I feel *some* of the old Activision scores need to be raised as well:) If done, we may need to start with say 4-5 games, and move from there What do people think? Has anyone ever done this? Thanks Lee
  17. Dont forget Circus Atari, always a kid pleaser
  18. Freeway! Fall Down! Barnstorming? And Sky Jinks? If she is not aware of time limits:) Sky Diver? Video Olympics? (can never go wrong with Pong) Surround?
