Apparently, Sears is still around! They're shedding dozens of stores per year, but still around!

The last one by me is in the process of going out of business.  It is a bit sad.  It was in that store that I met my wife of 28 years.  We worked in the automotive dept., she was a service writer and I was a salesman.  I jokingly told her we should go and renew our vows in the tire section before they close the doors!  She was not amused!

Has anyone other than IGG backers got one? Like what about the Kelvar Edition from Walmart?

I don’t think that is going to happen. Someone stated a page or so ago that their Kevlar pre-order was canceled if I am not mistaken.  I’m along the lines of this was something that they were hoping would court someone to buy them out and when it didn’t do that they had to put something out.  The backers are going to be the only ones that get these and possibly any Walmart/GameStop pre-orders that didn’t get canceled.  I would be very surprised if they crank out any more to put on store shelves.

    When us that NDA up?

It is a shame that we tragically lost Curt Vendel.  Before he passed away I remember him stating in the Taco thread that he had some info but couldn’t talk about it at the time.  I would have loved to hear what he had to say about his dealings with them.

I think you are right we won't (and shouldn't) see complex strategy games

I personally wouldn’t mind seeing something with some depth to it.  If Amico is truly going to be a family gaming machine then it should have games that appeal to family members of all ages.  Remember, it is not all about the retro titles.  In order for it to be successful it needs to grab the attention of more than just the limited pool of retro enthusiasts.  Having some in depth strategy games that older family members can play together doesn’t seem like a bad thing to me.

I forgot that he talked about the VIPs coming out early.

Just to clear up the FE/VIP shipping, they are both shipping prior to the official release as stated on the Amico VIP Pre-Order page here:

    https://intellivision.com/vip-preorder-faq

I would assume the FE orders would be filled first and then the VIP orders, but it doesn’t specifically state it.

This is so cool.  I like seeing these old catalogues.  Thanks for sharing Silverbot.

    I’ve posted this link previously:

    http://wishbookweb.com

It has a lot of old catalogs from Sears, JC Penney, Montgomery Wards, and more going back many decades.  The late 70’s and early 80’s are my favorite of course! It is cool to see the earlier ones though.

Happy Easter to those that celebrate!

    Big Lots counts.

If it shows up there I’d buy it for $50. But here’s the thing, the only way it shows up in places like Big lots is it is liquidated by other retailers.  For that to happen other retailers have to have had it on their shelves.  The only units that have been produced are Indigogo backers and Walmart and GameStop preorders.  Has their been any sign that retailers have ordered any units for their stores?

  8. 🦗 🦗 🦗 🦗.  No posts here in almost a month and the last few pages were about Linux and the Raspberry Pie. The VCS is really setting the world on fire!  I guess it will really take off once it hits the retail selves.....oh wait, that is never gonna happen.

    1.  USB controllers, like to DB9 like 2600/7800/Coleco/INTV2/Bally,  and to DB 15 for 5200.  That way replacement specialty controls can be made, like Paddles, Trak Balls, Spinners, flight yolks, and  arcade style joysticks, could be used by those who prefer them.   Also it simultaneously benefit the “true retro” market o original consoles as well as the neo-retro market like Amico and the New VCS.

    2.  Though doing that could let individuals use their own controllers, my design is the best “all around joystick” if ambidextrrity and conforming to “fighting game fans” must be balanced.  Visit http://Sinister sticks.com for my personal sales story of how I and 4 others toppled a future gaming giant.

BTW Hori USA said the design is brilliant, should sell in the USA well, yet the main office in Japan forbids this to go through.

    3.  In you’re going to do online gaming in 2 to 3 years from now, consider http://Netrogames.com . Keith Robinson said if it were echnically possible, it would create a new online gaming market. Steve Ronny said if he had 3 M in 1 M out combined with the low-ping aspects of the Sprint direct connect network, he could easily do it

I think your not getting the point of Amico’s controller.  It is designed to be unique to the console to separate it from others that are out there.  The motion controls and touch screen will make it stand out from others with its feedback and interaction with the games. Tommy had mentioned that a lot of games will utilize one button and that the controller can be rotated to be used ambidextrously.  Also,  the Amico is not a retro game console.  Only 20-25% of the games will be retro reimagined.  I’m not sure the Sinister Stick will work with most of the games because of the motion and touch screen aspect the games will be taking advantage of.

On the Netrogames topic you might want to look into the fact that the Sprint Direct Connect Network might not be around anymore from what I can see.  I’m not a wireless/communication engineer or anything, but doing a quick search shows that Sprint Direct Connect has been discontinued and it has evolved into Sprint Direct Connect Plus.  It seems that service uses WiFi and is a downloadable app that can be used with any phone? I’m not sure if it uses the same network specs you based Netrogames on anymore.

I would recommend trying to update your Sinister Stick design to be USB or wireless so that it could work as a MAME/Retro Pie controller in addition to a traditional pin connector version to work with original retro consoles.

As an Illinois citizen, we have a fringe in our politics that exists because of the super-majority, and they are always pitching crazy ideas just for attention.

Glad to hear from someone in Illinois on this.  I think most states have that fringe.  The scary thing is it just takes one of these laws to pass to set a precedence and than it can snowball from there.  Luckily the 1st amendment prevails in these cases, but one of these days it just might not if people don’t challenge them.

This looks cool.  Hopefully we get a Star Trek game on Amico.

This is one I can agree with you on!  I loved this game in the arcade, and like Arcade USA I played on the cockpit version in my local arcade.  Loved this, loved Star Wars more. It would be cool to see an Arcade 1Up (and Amico of course) of this too so I can put it next to my Star Wars sit down 1Up.

I am really troubled by this post.  If this is in fact what is going on in Illinois then if you live in that state you need contact those house representatives and let them know how they are infringing on your first amendment rights and that they need to be voted out of office.  There are ESRB ratings on games for a reason.  There doesn’t need to be a ban forced on by the government.  There are plenty of violent movies, but you don’t see them trying to ban them.  There is music that has violence in the lyrics, but you don’t see them trying to ban them (well they tried with Ozzy’s “Satanic” and suicide lyrics, but that failed).

I’m glad that the article went on to convey the fact that there is no scientific evidence that video games lead to violence.

If this passes it sets an extremely bad precedence. I don’t need the government censoring what I can or cannot buy.

    Done!

I know how hard it is for these non-profits to raise money in this current COVID environment.  My daughter is a graphic artist in media/marketing for The Cure Starts Now based in Cincinnati (look it up and maybe purchase a mask from them - hey Tommy how about Intellivision teaming up with them to sell Intellivision masks on their website with a portion going to their cause...just an idea).  All of the big fund raising events they would normally have they can’t due to COVID.  They really have had to come up with new ways to get their message out in order to get donations.

  14. I was just thinking about the motion controls for the system and how they work. The Wii used the IR sensor on top of the TV to sense controller movement.  The PlayStation and XBox used a camera to do the same.  I don’t have a Switch so I don’t know how that system works.  How will the Amico detect the controller motion?  Is there something in the base unit that does this and if so will the unit need to be placed in a certain way, or is everything to sense movement packed into the controllers?

no wifi/BT without buying extra hardware and consuming USB ports.

Just to correct you, RPi 3B and 3B+ both have onboard WiFi and Bluetooth, no extra hardware needed. I would say these would be the minimum spec models to use for any decent emulation.
