Of course there are games for the VCS. In reality the VCS has the ability to run thousands of games any low end (and cheaper) PC can run if someone wants to add an external drive and a Windows license to it and boot to the sandbox. We really do not need a thread for every low end PC game out there.

Sorry, I’m a little behind in my reading, but WOW that looks familiar! Dream Machine must have been a chain because there was one in the South Hills Mall in Poughkeepsie, NY that I used to go to. Great Memories! I remember they used to run a promotion at report card time where they would give out free tokens for every A on your report card! Unfortunately that mall was knocked down to make way for a strip mall, which seems to be the thing these days, rather than the nice indoor ones of yesteryear! I would frequent Space Port at the Newburgh Mall in Newburgh, NY since it was closer to my house and I had a job at Sears (automotive dept.) which was in that mall. I can’t seem to find any pictures of it in the 5 mins I looked online! I actually met my wife at that Sears, we were coworkers. I was up front selling tires, shocks, batteries, etc. and she was a service writer in the back setting up the installs. We still make a great team to this day! That mall is still kicking and Sears is still there, one of the few left in the area. -
Sounds like you really should pre-order an Intellivision Amico! It will have more reimagined Atari classics on it than the VCS.

I highly agree with this. I do hunt deer and I firmly agree that hunting should not be done for sport or just to kill. I do not go out just to “bag a big one”. I do it to put food on the table. While everyone was looking for their red meat in the supermarkets at the beginning of COVID, my freezer was stocked with the most organic meat you can get. I also do all the processing myself and feel if you are going to hunt and take the life of an animal you need to give it the respect of doing the whole process start to finish. I know many do not feel the same way about hunting and I respect that. -

Yes, but what I meant was this wasn’t a hunting game where you are the hunter and are doing the killing (like the Cabelas series of games). I don’t think Tommy is against the natural circle of life as a Vegan. -

This game looks interesting. What is the premise of it? Since you love it I know it can’t involve hunting, so is it a photo safari of some sort? -

They are killing me with releasing this right after the Asteroids one. I was hoping they would space the release out so I could pay off my previous orders! I just finished paying for the Tempest & Street Fighter order and they dropped the Asteroids. Had to get the one of each bundle and the one regular (because I have to have one to open and one to keep sealed). Now I need to get 2 Dragons Lairs and one more Tempest (missed out on getting the second Street Fighter)! I’m waiting to see if they do a free shipping promo after the Asteroids pre-sale is over. Shipping for the three of those came to $58! -

I’ve been looking at that one. They also have a Walkman usb charger as well, that one only charges 3 devices. I just got the Tempest and Street Fighter mini games. I’m waiting for the Dragons Lair one to come out. Unfortunately I didn’t know about New Wave products until recently so I missed out on the Asteroids & Centipede units. Now they are going for ridiculous amounts, and they aren’t that cheap from New Wave when they were released. They are cool though I have to say! -

Hopefully they will be doing the annual Northeast RV show in Feb (probably not this year though) at the Eastern States Expo Grounds I’ll have to go check that out. As I mentioned before we go every year, but we have never gone downtown. The RV show is in West Springfield so we never cross the river over to Springfield proper. -

Yahtzee is the main staple (my wife’s favorite). We have a deck of cards, a checker set, some trivia games (one Disney, one Star Wars, one Big Bang Theory), Boggle (word game), and some that get moved in and out like What the Meme and Cards Against Humanity. One popular game that we do not have, but I see at many camp sites is of course Cornhole. -

Just thought I’d throw this out to anyone who might be interested (not sure if anyone else already mentioned this), CBS All Access has a show on right now called “Console Wars”. I haven’t watched it yet, but it looks like the subject matter is the SEGA/Nintendo battle during the 90’s. -

I absolutely can understand this, however that is the whole point of a simulator, to simulate something virtually from the real thing. Depending on what is being simulated things can get complex very quickly! From a tractor trailer in Euro Truck Simulator to an F-18 in DCS World the complexity increases a hundred fold, as it should. I’ll never get to fly an F-18 or drive a tractor trailer in real life so sims that get me as close as possible to doing that virtually as it is in real life is a thrill and definitely begin to be less of a game and more of an experience. I agree with this, I think Amico is poised perfectly for its intended target graphically and game play wise. Just looking at the Moon Patrol demo there is a lot of things going on in the small graphical details. The same goes for Skiing, the racing game, and even Breakout. -

I do see where you are going with this. Your initial statement that if you have to have the latest cutting edge graphics then you are not a gamer was a bit direct. Putting it the way you did with different genres of music makes your point a little more clear and I can understand what you are getting at. I think different genres of games can be enjoyed regardless of the graphical fidelity. I also like playing adventure games, going back to the original IBM (Microsoft) Adventure, Zork, and the other Infocom text adventure games. These games had zero graphics but we’re fun to play and I spent hours and hours figuring them out. -

I agree with what you said up until this sentence. I am a gamer that likes cutting edge graphics but if the game play sucks than all the pretty graphics isn’t going to help the game one bit. Having a PC that can play the latest games and not crawl to a stop is par for the course. When building a PC you buy the best components at the time that you can afford to future proof the build as far as possible. It doesn’t mean that I’m a tech junkie, but hey I would say most of the people on Atari Age love their tech! There are tons of Indie games that are fantastic games that are not high res in the graphics arena but are great fun games. Having the equipment to be able to play games from every era past and present is the goal for me. From being able to emulate all previous consoles and play current games. -

I only bring up the graphics issue because after 935 pages I kept reading about how graphics are not important, but to some people they are and I am one of them and I am sure there are plenty of others on here. Game play and graphics go hand in hand like I stated. What are the retro reimagined games that everyone is waiting for in this thread? Basically the great game play mechanics of games that have stood the test of time to make them classics but with updated graphics and game play. Even the original Intellivision boasted about its graphic superiority back in the day against Atari. I would consider myself a semi-hard core gamer. I haven’t crossed the line to hard core because there are other things in life that are more important and keep me from crossing that line. As such I enjoy video games as a whole whether we are talking 4K VR games, to original console games, to a quick game of solitaire on an iPad. I enjoy them all and collect them all. Like Tommy said the fact that hard core gamers have this mindset that they can’t enjoy something like the Amico is totally bunk. I bet that mindset set is really just from a small percentage of the hard core population. -

Absolutely agree with this. My wife and I are currently camping in Cape May, NJ. Our camper doesn’t have a TV, not because it is an old camper ( it’s only 7 years old), but because when we camp we unplug so we opted not to get one installed. Now we do have our phones and iPad for internet access (we are not THAT uncivilized!) which I mainly use for reading my online mags (PC Gamer anyone?) and such. The one thing we do have in the camper are board games, checkers, and cards. Last night we had some good rounds of Triple Yahtzee! -

Another thought about graphics and game play. One of the games I loved to play on the 2600 was Stellar Track (a Sears game, not sure if there was an Atari version of it). This game basically had no graphics! It was a grid with numbers representing a galaxy map. Trying to determine the number of moves to be able to clear the map of enemy ships and reach resupply space stations kept you going. Simple graphics, but great game play requiring strategy. A side note, I liked this game because in high school we had these terminals which connected to our local BOCES (a vocational school for students that wanted to go into a trade). When I say terminals I’m talking about a printer terminals with keyboards on them, not CRT terminals. You would type in commands and the responses would be printed out. These were mainly used by the Guidance Counselor for career planning, but we got to use them too. There was a game called Star Trek that someone accessed on there that was basically Stellar Track on paper. Wow did we kill a lot of trees playing that game!
