  1. These just off the top of my head: Sky Kid was on the Famicom/NES and Super Cassette Vision. Galactic Invasion (Galaxian), on Astrocade. Muncher (Pac-Man), on Astrocade. Astro Battle (Space Invaders), on Astrocade. Dig Dug was also on the Atari 5200 Good job finding the other ones for SCV, those can be hard to spot since they are rare.
  2. I checked a local Walmart yesterday and still no ColecoVision or Intellivision flashbacks, or even the Sega flashbacks. They only had a couple Atari flashbacks It's weird how inconsistent the roll out has been of these flashbacks... It's the same on real, original hardware. I have the Roller Controller always hooked up to the console and keep the hand controllers hooked up to the Roller Controller and put it in my lap when I play. Once you hit 20,000 points the ball immediately bounces around about twice as fast. I usually don't last long after that, if I even make it that far I think that is skill 1, but it's been a while since I last played it.
  3. Add the Super Cassette Vision to the Mappy list: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMpxiKQcJas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMpxiKQcJas Looks like a great port to me. I'd love to track down Mappy for my SCV! Probably very rare game for an already rare console, though.
  4. Same here. I wanted to buy one of these right away, but after reading this thread on-and-off over the past few months I'm a little hesitant. Instead, I bought games for one of my retro systems. AtGames has done well with their Sega stuff and a few of their other flashbacks; wonder why they cant get this one "right". Btw, your avatar is hilarious.
  5. Well, like I said, I am using the original adapter as it works perfectly.....and because you said it's OK to use a Jap adapter in a US outlet That was my main concern. I know next to nothing about voltage and amps as how it relates to consoles and such. But I thought it a little strange how the universal "replacement" adapter has 1A DC, and the original 800mA DC. I guess the universal adapter can still be used as a back-up for.......something. Maybe if I look for a 9V DC 800mA adapter, that would be an even better back-up power adapter?
  6. Here are the specs of the original power adapter that came with the SCV: AC 100V 50/60Hz 18VA DC 8.5V 800mA And here are the specs of the cheap universal power adapter: AC 100 - 240V 50/60Hz 0.3A DC 9V 1A ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The original one works perfectly. But the universal one gives static wavy lines on screen and the games play glitchy. For example, when I play Elevator Fight, my guy will randomly jump or shoot without me even pressing any buttons! At first I thought maybe there was something wrong with the controllers or that there may be a short circuit somewhere. But all those problems went away when I just used the original power adapter that came with the console. It is apparent that the universal power adapter isn't feeding the correct voltage to the console & controllers. I noticed a similar problem with the working O2 I have. The games would sometimes stop or not 'boot up' until I tried many times. Then I noticed it came with a friggen phone adapter, not the original! So I used the power adapter from the dead O2 I have on the working one, and it seemed to do better. I didn't play it much afterwards and unhooked it, though. Having the correct power adapter for your console is SO important!
  7. Thanks guys! I guess I will continue using the original power adapter with the console and save the cheap universal one as a back-up.
  8. Anyone here use the original power supply with your Japanese console? I've had my SCV for about a year, and around the same time I bought a cheap "universal" power adapter. I did this because I didn't want to risk messing up the original Japanese 100v power adapter in a US 120v outlet/power strip. The universal power adapter "works", but gives some static on screen and the games play a little glitchy....but it is marketed as a replacement power adapter specifically for the SCV on ebay. The original Japanese SCV power adapter works perfectly with the console -- the screen is clear and the games play as they should. Am I fine using the original power adapter?
  9. Depends on what system I'm playing. But overall my top 3 games I play for my fav systems....... Atari 7800 -- Mario Bros., Food Fight, Dig Dug ColecoVision -- Smurf Rescue, Mario Bros. (homebrew), Jungle Hunt Astrocade -- The Incredible Wizard, Galactic Invasion, Clowns Super Cassette Vision -- Comic Circus, Elevator Fight, Astro Wars II - Battle in Galaxy
  10. The dates are a blur for me, but I'll try to remember them the best I can...... Circa. 1986 -- Commodore 64 1988 -- NES Circa. 1991 -- TG-16 & Atari 7800 Circa. 1992/1993 -- SNES After that I had a long break from high school to college and after..... 2010s -- Over the last 4-5 years I got back into gaming, and I've picked up a couple Atari VCS', Intellivision I & II, Atari 5200 (kaput), ColecoVision, Bally Astrocade and Super Cassette Vision
  11. This is sad to hear. That online store used to have good customer service. I bought quite a few games from Atari2600.com a couple years ago, and I'd get the games shipped within 3-5 days, and I live on the other side of the US. But there was a game or two that he didn't have in stock and refunded me for that, and it was printed on the invoice. He had really good deals on games; sometimes cheaper than anywhere else. But I guess I'm glad I haven't bought anything from that store recently given the lack of communication and very long shipping times ppl here have experienced. It is obvious Joe has placed priority on his ebay store. He either needs to have someone help with his Atari2600 store...or he needs to close it and focus completely on his ebay store.
  12. The Incredible Wizard on the Astrocade Very much a "Halloween" game.
  13. As far as consoles I just cant get excited about.......the very early pong units and the Fairchild Channel F. Too primitive for my tastes. I even sometimes have a hard time getting into the Atari VCS and the O2. And the newest consoles don't get me excited, either. It's the 8-bit/ 16-bit/ arcade era that does it for me, baby!
  14. I agree. I've been playing my SCV and Astrocade a lot lately. I need to find a better power adapter though. The sound on the SCV may not be as good as the Famicom/NES, but it's capable of some pretty nice/sophisticated sounds, despite only being 'one channel' (although I swear I hear two or more sounds at once on some games). Still has better sound than the AtariVCS/7800 and most early consoles, imo. I'd say the graphics are like a mix of Sega SG-1000 and Atari 7800 -- good resolution, capable of MANY sprites and though the colors are limited to 16, they are beautiful. The games seem to be arcade-style, which I like. Really, it's a pretty nice system! I need to buy a couple more games sometime... This guy is nice and has a SCV for a very good price. Includes 4 games: http://www.ebay.com/itm/EPOCH-Super-Cassette-Vision-CONSOLE-4Gmaes-Japan-Import-1984-SCV-Working-RARE-/221554759268?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3395b15664 You should snatch it up if you can! I don't think you are gonna find a better deal anywhere else. I paid a lot more for mine, and it didn't include 4 games.
  15. I've had my 7800 since 1990 or 1991, so 23+ years. It is definitely one of the late models. Still works fine
  16. Yes, but didn't Warner get Atari in deep financial debt before Tramiel "saved" it? Seems to me Warner is just as much at fault as Tramiel for shortchanging the 7800. There will always be "what ifs" regarding old consoles. The Atari 7800 really had the potential to be an 8-bit gaming powerhouse of it's time if everything worked out like it should have.
  17. @ Trebor: Thanks for posting vids of what the 7800 is really capable of Damn impressive! That example shows the 7800 with true arcade-quality 8-bit graphics and sound. And that example of Bentley Bear shows the 7800 is capable of graphics and sound at least on-par with the SMS! It almost makes me sick to my stomach how Warner and Tramiel completely screwed the 7800 in so many ways...
  18. Very cool game pickup. Mario Bros. is one of my favorite games and the 7800 version looks and plays very well. The XE version looks good, but the sounds are kinda annoying and Mario looks weird. Say what you will about the 5200 version, but keep in mind that version was released the same year as the arcade and 2600 versions. I think it's a great version of Mario Bros. for it's time that still holds up pretty well. I played the crap outta it when my 5200 was still working. The Atari 7800 Mario Bros. is quite good as-is, but would be awesome if it had intermissions and POKEY sound.
  19. Berzerk (2600) Congo Bongo (2600) Smurf Rescue (2600) All played on the Atari 7800
  20. When I was a kid there were a couple games that kinda creeped me out: the music and animation in Dance Fantasy on the C-64, and the dungeon music in Legend of Zelda on the NES.
  21. There were not many games made for the Atari 5200, and most of them were just re-hashes of released Atari 2600 games, just with better graphics and sound. I guess that's why?
  22. Wow......I guess we now know the inspiration for the 1984 NES video game Duck Hunt. Very cool!
  23. North America includes the USA, Canada and Mexico. Canada only has 1/10th the population of the US, so maybe the 7800 was mostly sold in Atari's home country, the US. Maybe I should have said: "The Atari 7800 outsold the SMS in the US". We will never know the real numbers. As for my own experiences, there was only one family in my neighborhood that had a SMS; everyone else had an NES. I actually got my 7800 at the tail end of it's life --- 2 or 3 years after I got an NES. I remember the 2600jr and 7800 still being sold in 1990 or 1991 at Kay-Bee Toys.
