To reply on the topic title. I love my new VCS. For me, I am just proud to see Atari survive and see a new product after the Jaguar, which of course, I also love. It is hard for me to understand the haters. I am just happy to play the old games on a decent TV with a fabulous controller, and I am just waiting for more to come. And in the mean time I will still use my older hardware. The discussion about the sacred Atari name and that the new VCS is not the same, I understand the emotions but I am just proud a new generation gets to know the past via the VCS

I just got my VCS today and i'm really liking it!  so far i've just used the web browser and missile command and vault.  the form factor and build quality of the machine feels great in the hands and looks so sexy.  I'm posting this reply from the VCS, with a unicomp Model M buckling spring keyboard attached.

The PC versions have mouse support.  I've had the mobile version for a while now.  This missile command doesn't have attack waves; the rate of attack just increases and increases, no time to rest.  Another thing is that each missile base is limited to one missile in the air; a maximum of only three missiles in the air, less if you've lost missile bases.  Makes you feel helpless as more and more missiles come down.

After a few levels of regular missile command on 2600 i already feel helpless AF lol

i like the graphical style of the new one at least

It's also OK to not play the victim card because others don't care for it or the company behind it, and to reply to criticism in a level-headed manner because it's likely to garner a lot more respect from the opposition than having emotional outbursts in their direction due to disagreement with their position(s).

Not aiming that comment at you specifically, @AlecRob, but mentioning it because it takes at least two to tango.

Uh, from my experience, the proponents tend to be less emotionally charged than the folks who dislike the VCS.  Anti VCS people will immediately tell you to use another product/PC/rasp pi/whatever as soon as you try to talk about using the VCS for anything.  Frankly it gets overwhelming and makes me not want to discuss the console because i’m constantly bombarded with reasons why i’m supposed to not like it.  My patience eventually wears thin from the massive amount of pushback.  Call me a pussy or thin skinned if you like, i just think a lot of humans in this position would think the same way.  The VCS discord group and facebook are full of people who left atariage because they were utterly exhausted from the negativity surrounding the VCS.    People here act like being open-minded about the VCS is unthinkable and stupid.

I don’t mind if someone dislikes a product, but damn, we should respect each others decision to buy or not buy something.  I don’t troll people for not buying the VCS.   People seem so fuckin proud of the fact that they dislike the VCS. Like they suddenly have a superiority complex because they aren’t “foolish enough” to buy a “scam” console.

  4. We don’t have to be corrected or educated about why we shouldn't like it.  We are aware of the alternatives.  We are aware of other options.  Please get off our case.    Let us enjoy the VCS in peace.

    that is all.

It would be great, but prohibitively expensive. If Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos were big Atari fans then they could do it without blinking an eye, but I'm sure that they'd have bought the company already if they had the interest. Warner Bros/AT&T owns all of the Atari Games stuff; then many other IPs have been sold here and there over the years (BattleZone to Rebellion as one example).  It also wouldn't mean much if the IP just sat around or was released once every 10 years on a Steam compilation.

Now if you did have some of the original creators come along and reinvent the games or something along those lines, it'd be interesting - but IMHO, for Atari to maintain relevancy over the years, they also need fresh ideas that are fun to play. Milking the past won't pay the bills forever.

Just buy BattleZone Gold Edition on Steam. Been out for a few years and was a fantastic remake.

Battlezone gold edition looks like it would run on the vcs under windows.  I think i will play that!

Yes, let's give them more stuff to screw up.

At least then if someone were to buy the company, they would get EVERYTHING.

besides, i would love to see a new battlezone on VCS.  Perhaps with psychedelic tempest 4000 visuals.

That's why it is important for people who do know, to word it correctly.  You could say it's the first console from a company called Atari in over 25+ years.

And by the way the original atari that became atari games in 1984, although the development studio and factories closed many years ago, is in fact owned by Warner Brothers today.  Last I heard they were trying to sell all their video game properties.

It would be nice if Atari, SA could buy back all the atari properties owned by other companies.   It would certainly be cool to have all the stuff under one roof again.

  8. I think there is certainly room for an SNK console on the market.  In asia, Xbox is nonexistent.   It’s pretty much just sony vs nintendo in a lot of the world. Of course Atari and Amico are overwhelmingly western, so those machines have a huge uphill battle when it comes to getting recognition in asia.  SNK really should take advantage of the korean and chinese, and japanese markets .  Plus it would sell pretty well in the middle-east as well me thinks.  That plus whatever sales they get from north america and europe could make a pretty succesful NEO•GEO console.  I can see it selling more than any previous SNK system from the 90s honestly.  The video game market is much bigger in 2020 than it was in the 90s.
