I was just trying to point out that debating with these guys won't change anything.

I guess the point i try to drive home is, it’s okay to be interested in a less than perfect product.  atari VCS is an entertainment device.  atari, SA is an entertaining company.  So far i’ve enjoyed the atari VCS journey.  Idk why people cant just enjoy the ride.

@AlecRobThis was supposed to be a FAQ and Info but instead it is Taco thread #2.  It's just another complaint thread.  I especially like OCAT whom has yet to make a post on this entire site for anything other than to complain and make jokes about the VCS.  593 posts and nothing worthwhile has been contributed to the community at large.

I’m confused at why exactly you are addressing me with this post?

  3. It takes a certain level of apathy and appreciation of irony to get the most out of a platform as barren as the Atari VCS, as well as the godforsaken company who created it.  Tis fate.

VCS makes the PC platform more interesting, because this PC has an Atari logo on the friggin PCB inside!  How beautiful!

  4. I’m not saying VCS is going to be a blockbuster success... i just don't see it worthy of receiving so much hate.  Atari, SA doesn’t bother me, really.   I’d rather see people discussing unique ways of using the VCS hardware and homebrew projects.  Instead we get endless banter about why it will flop.  Ok, it’s already established that the machine will most likely flop.  What creative things can we do with this machine?

  5. There are plenty of smartphones on the market that dont do anything different from other smartphones on the market... VCS at least has a different look & feel compared to other similar PC’s on the market

i’m not saying its an outstanding product, but compared to the relatively monotonous and boring compact/home/thin PC market, the VCS doesn’t look that bad.  For example, i’d rather have the VCS than comparable products from dell, HP, intel, etc.  PC’s are pretty boring in general.  So why not have one with an Atari logo on it.  This isn’t for high end power users...   it’s just a somewhat fashionable PC.

If crappy overpriced SLOW shitty Hewlett Packard PC’s can still sell decently then I don’t see why the VCS couldn’t either.  Is it the most efficient purchase you can make? No.  But IMO, some people will still buy it just for dat logo

Is there really much doubt? It's got the specs of a $200 laptop and we already know how well they perform.

About the only way it could surprise us is if it's somehow even worse than that. Perhaps there's some bottleneck in the architecture somewhere that'll make it even slower than expected? Maybe they've stuffed up the cooling and it throttles? Maybe the power supplies are too fragile and you can't leave it on for any length of time without them overheating? When they've had an eighteen month overrun just to get the thing made, there's probably not been too much of that time dedicated to making sure that the engineering is rock solid, so I'd guess that anything is possible.

They've literally had years to make the engineering rock solid lol

I'm curious; why is the VCS such a source of contention for folks?

    My opinion:

Because they have nothing better to do than be upset at a console shaped PC with an atari logo on it made in china by some new company that owns said logo.  They long for the atari of the past.    It adds fuel to the fire when this new atari has created an embarrassing spectacle of themselves on the internet.

there were atari X86 PC’s in the 80s.  The VCS could be the successor to atari’s obscure PC line.

Can't tell if trolling or not anymore.

I never said they were the smartest business owners in the world, I just said maybe they have bigger aspirations than just IP holders.  Clearly they have made mistakes along the way.  Their biggest mistake is revealing too much about the development process and publicity/social media tomfoolery.  They should have kept their mouths SHUT and just made people wait and speculate then BAM it’s shown nearly complete and working and released soon after.

but no, atari had to show everyone their asscrack, and now people are enraged and disenfranchised.

With all their announcements and projects they are clearly trying to distinguish themselves as a different type of company than atari SA once was.   Perhaps the current owners and employees of Atari SA have bigger business aspirations than just merely IP owners.

  10. I chose not to care about all the apparent negatives and bought the product because i thought it looked fashionable. I’m only out $200.  I’m not that poor.  Some people like to gamble.

Indiegogo locked in our shipping addresses, so it will arrive soon.

    My previous comment was sarcasm.

  11. I never expected too much from VCS.  It’s served as a cool curiosity though.  It’s surreal that someone would try their hand at making atari into a hardware company/brand again.  Thats really the main appeal to me.

Honestly this VCS fiasco and drama is still more interesting than what atari, SA was doing before all this.  I want to see what becomes of the hotel project, too.  It’s almost as if Atari, SA is trying to make themselves into an actually unique company.  Digital console with pc/hobbyist features, a branded hotel, speaker hats?  Its all very strange.  How could you not be curious and amused by all this.  It’s certainly more entertaining than the Atari brand outright dying as it seemed like it was on occasion.     If it is commercial flop at least it for a while it broke the intense monotony that the gaming industry has become.  Sony and microsoft and nintendo have been boring me to death... More competition is always welcome, even in the form of the controversial Atari, SA.  The controversy makes it even more interesting from my point of view. Lol

Regarding Tempest, do you think they would:

    (a) Commission a proper dedicated version for their console;

    OR

    (b) Simply half ass it by running the PC version in an emulation mode?

It wouldnt be emulation, because the VCS is a PC
