Coleco minigames in a cartridge - Who want one?
newcoleco replied to newcoleco's topic in Homebrew Discussion
I agree! Smash was more a tutorial game programming effort, it came with a powerpoint file to explain how is it coded. Note : someone did a variation of Smash, and I'm happy to say that this was a first game programming experience for this guy. Like I said before, there are more Coleco minigames but these ones came from Minigame Compo. -
Coleco minigames in a cartridge - Who want one?
newcoleco replied to newcoleco's topic in Homebrew Discussion
Yes, it looks like a 8K game but a 3 levels version should still fit in 4K. Maybe a 8K or even a 32K version will exists in the future. Like I said in its description : it's more a game engine than a real game. Thanks for the suggestion! :-) But, to avoid confusion with my projects GamePack #1 and #2 we must find another name. Coleco minigames in a cartridge - Who want one?
newcoleco replied to newcoleco's topic in Homebrew Discussion
Yes, "Jump or Die"... I like this game too, and I will continue it. I played it yesturday but the game is now too easy for me... This game need new screens, and maybe new obstacles (if enough space). -
(this message is also copied in Yahoo groups ColecoVisionCollectors and ColecoProgramming) After a discussion with AtariAge, I have to ask you if you are interrested to see a cartridge filled with minigames made by the Coleco programmers. I'm sure all the authors of these minigames want a cartridge, but what about the other programmers, the gamers and the collectors? If there is a big demand for them, Albert may accept to make special pcbs for this project (that will certainly continue) to support 4k but also 8k minigames... and also support 64K EPROM for more minigames and more fun (if there are enough new minigames one year). Also, give us your TOP7 (7 4kgames plus a menu = 32K) 2004 : URL = http://starbase.globalpc.net/minidir/index.results2.html 2005 : URL = http://minigamecomp.org.uk/gamesresults.php?module=NS-User 2006 : URL = http://minigamecomp.org.uk/4kresults.php?module=NS-User [2004] Diamond Dash - Daniel Bienvenu [2004] Smash - Daniel Bienvenu [2005] Get Booty - Dale Wick [2005] Space Hunter - Guy Foster [2005] Space Trainer - Daniel Bienvenu [2006] JetP4K - Harvey deKleine [2006] Jump or Die - Daniel Bienvenu [2006] Square! - Harvey deKleine There are a few missing minigames in this list, because they were not submited to the minigame compo. However, these missing minigames are also qualify for the minigames cartridge project. I know that Dale Wick was trying to develop a 4k minigame for this year, but didn't had time to submit it. Daniel Note : I'm sure making minigames cartridges is a good opportunity to mix all the programmers into a single project : a chalenge for the more experienced, a good improvement skill for the novice, and a first release for the newbies who think their games are not good to be published alone in a cartridge.

Eduardo, if you can give me a price for the 200 plastic casings plus shipping, I will be able to pay you in the current month if it's not too expensive. You know my email address... or use the "Private Message" service here to leave me a message.

* Good news * - A new batch of 20 Maze Maniac cartridges is done. It's time again to ask for a copy, email Mathieu Boyer. - A new batch of Coleco Bejeweled, not done by me, will be available as soon as possible. Cartridge cases are easy to come by at low cost if you know who to ask ... and labels should be relatively easy to manufacture, given the state of label printers these days. Boxes are nice, but I think a cartridge and a manual at a fair price is "enough" to justify shelling out for a homebrew, and printing a manual isn't all that hard, either. As you may know, even AtariAge is looking for Coleco plastic casings...
-
I also ordered a batch of 200 new casings some time ago... but with the new price, I need time to find the extra money. However, I will talk to all the Coleco programmers near me if they want to pay for new casings, a part of the 200 ones. Based on the pictures, I assume the standard pcbs fit perfectly.

Results are available now, and my Coleco minigame got the lowest number of votes.

fullscreen level, no background, the isometric orientation, it remembers me the Commodore 64 version... URL : http://www.mobygames.com/game/crystal-castles/screenshots

I forgot to "debounce" the joystick data, so you can press and hold the fire button to always jump. I find this useful when I want to reach the top left solid platform when I'm at the bottom right one. I start running then I press and hold fire to jump through almost all the unstable platforms. I will certainly fill up the actual minigame to at least 4k. After that, it's not a problem to use again this engine to program a full 32k game. Who knows, maybe it will be possible to send me new levels to help me filling the 32k version. Daniel Bienvenu http://www.geocities.com/newcoleco/

I submited "Jump or Die" to the Minigame Compo 2006. I programmed this minigame in C, based strickly on what is available on my web site. There is no "game over" message and no reward... I had no time to think about it. This minigame is more a playable game engine than a real game. Controls : Move : left and right, Jump : fire button. Only 1 level, only 1 player. Note : I think no one is lucky enough to collect all the keys the first time. The zip file in attachment here is the updated version with iced floors and more graphics. cvjod.zip The background music, freely inspired by Axel F, in mpeg layer-3 format here. cvjod.mp3 Daniel Bienvenu http://www.geocities.com/newcoleco/

Try sending an email to the authors. For Maze Maniac, send an email to Mathieu. Visit http://www.mazemaniac.com/ (for fun, try writing your request in french like this : "Génial ton jeu Maze Maniac! As-tu une cartouche à vendre?") For Penguin Land and Lode Runner, try contact the author by visiting the ccjvq web site.
-
Sorry for the confusion, you are right, the penguin land conversion was done with the japanese version, but the coleco version looks like an american version.

All the symbols for the coleco bios listing in this document came from two official coleco documents (one for Adam computer, the other for ColecoVision). The part I modified in the bios listing is basically the original comments to make some block of functions fit into fewer pages. For the sound and video information in the annexe, it's the way I understand the technical documentation that was made for electronic experts, not for software programmers. Please note that it taked me months to re-write the coleco bios listing because no scanner and/or no ocr software was good enough to make an electronic copy of this precious information. So, I hope I didn't re-write it for nothing. And if you find something interresting to be added in the doc, let me know. Someone already mentionned some points missing like the controllers and expension modules that may be useful for some special projects. Continue your good work, Bruce! To all the coleco programmers : Let me know if you want to show your coleco project during the Arcadia festival (in Montreal). It supposed to be bigger than last year. I will be there to present the homebrew scene and particulary the new ColecoVision games, and I will probably do a presentation about this passion to program new games for the good old classic systems.

Exactly, these games by Steve Begin was done from SG1000 PAL versions. I think the main challenge was to reduce the cpu usage (optimizing the functions for the non-maskable interrupts) to make these games fluid for NTSC (60 iframes per second). Also, the graphics are not the same. Please note that Lode Runner and Penguin Land was released during ccjvq meetings but some people got them by doing a request to the author (directly or indirectly by sending a message to me or another member of the ccjvq club). It's maybe not too late to order Lode Runner and Penguin Land, but I personnaly don't have enough material to help. Actually, my objective is to help Mathieu to release a few more Maze Maniac. It will be done during this month.

ColecoVision Deflektor Kollection Now Available
newcoleco replied to Albert's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hello, Well, a paddle project for the ColecoVision started during the years 2001-2002, but stoped after seeing Double Breakout buggy the first time. At this time, the game was done in 10 cartridges by John Dondzila but no cartridge of this version exist now. One year later, the bug was solve by simply adding the opcode "im 1", during that time I were thinking that the bug was my fault and I tried and tried again to modify my code without any good result. When Double Breakout was released in cartridge here on AtariAge, the bug was fixed of course and also some modifications was done in the credits and secrets. Atari episode after that makes the situation to rename the project. I added a secret game in the project and I know that Scott Huggins played it with someone at the OVGE. The secret game is named "SPACE TRAINER" and is easy to find. The linked page also shows an Atari VCS paddle with the ColecoVision logo on it - way cool. i want one! [edit] Official Double Breakout Page - where the updates used to be posted. 882145[/snapback] The paddle you see in my Coleco web site worked for real on a ColecoVision with an adapter (to have the right pin-out), but very poorly (not fast enough(?)). The ColecoVision logo on it came from a Coleco steering wheel module. This paddle project was made by SlyDC from CCJVQ (classic video game collectors club in Quebec). Anyway, Double Breakout game project was done based on the idea that a paddle for the ColecoVision is possible, but no Coleco paddle exists yet. I added a mention that a fast paddle can be used to play this game and we are more than one to think it's true. -

Multicart for Atari2600 for sale (255games & menu)
newcoleco replied to newcoleco's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
The actual best offer was done by someone named "vadruche". I will not reveal his best offer to not influence any new offers that may be just made to "outbid" for fun, because it's not funny. And remember that your offer have to be in canadians dollars, this way I can compare the offers. -
I have one multicart for the Atari 2600 for sale. No dipswitch, 255 complet games inside and a software menu. This cartridge was done in year 2001 by Sean Kelly, and he stoped the production in 2002... This item is only for sale. No trade. Write me an email with your offer. My email it's : newcoleco AT yahoo DOT fr Special note : Do your offer in canadian dollars (it's now approx. 80 US cents for a canadian dollar). For the payment, I accept canadian or international money order. Paypal it's not possible for now, so I prefer to avoid. FAQ Reason for sale? I'm not a real Atari collector and i need money to pay a trip to Whitby (Ontario) for the Adamcon's annual meeting in July 14-16 2005. Deadline? The cartridge will go to the one who did the best offer. I will not consider offers made after june 9th in the morning. Shipping cost? No extra cost for the shipping, i'm considering it's included in your offer. $75 is it enough? Yes it's a good offer, but I can't tell you now if you did the best offer. You have to wait june 9th for that. And remember that your offer is done in canadian dollards so an offer of $75 CN it's approx $60 US. The following link was done to answer questions I already received. URL : http://www.geocities.com/newcoleco/item/ This message was also posted in www.ccjvq.com and www.cgcc.ca forums.

hi! CVDRUM's author sent me some e-mails. I can answer your questions. The Demo version can be played only with VirtualColeco. It takes me about two days to look at the source code (not the demo version). I optimized some part of his code and I also fixed the problem. The new version (not the demo version) works with MESS and ADAMEM. Daniel B.

Hello, I talked to Michael last night. He changed screenshots and description for the Gamepack#1 section. http://www.gooddealgames.com/Publishing_Co...lecovision.html
-
Hello, Gamepack 2 demo is a set of 3 games who came from my childhood memories. I remember the 3 games at the end of the Commodore Vic-20 user's manual. I do a remake of these games into a 8k rom for the ColecoVision. No sprites (Vic-20 had no sprites). This demo is now available in public domain. Have Fun! 14 New ColecoVision Games at Classic Gaming Expo
newcoleco replied to digitalpress's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I agree! GDG release Coleco Gamepack. Good news for me and Coleco fans. Why this news doesn't look as a good news in this forum? I readed every messages in many forums who talk about Gamepack and here it's the only place I saw this reaction. If it's my fault, I'm sorry! Lock this thread now! P.S.: I release Gamepack v2 demo, tonight!
