  1. Hello, Lost Monkey! I hope too, Scooterb23! Happy birthday MegaManFan! Happy birthday moycon! Hello everyone! Nice to meet you! Fun Fact: GoodDealGames writed an article about Coleco programming. In fact, it's not exactly an article, it's a starting kit (for everyone who knows C language and want to program new coleco games). I writed a Coleco programming document (in Word format) in March and updated in June. This document is based on my way to program new ColecoVision games. Another archive complet the document with all you need to compile your first Coleco projects. Warning: this kit is based on Windows/DOS environment. http://www.gooddealgames.com/Articles.html
  2. Hello again, I don't want to start defending Gamepack here. I know how hard it was to program Gamepack and I'm proud of it. You gived your opinion and I respect this. Each one is entitled to its opinion. (I hope it's well writed) But, don't be surprise to know that I'm very sad now. During all these years, I wanted to share with you my passion for the ColecoVision by doing new games, programming tools, etc. I do more for the ColecoVision scene than I expected. You can't discourage me. I will continue doing new ColecoVision games because it's my passion. Daniel Bienvenu
  3. Hello, My name is Daniel Bienvenu, it was my birthday this week. It's my first message here in AtariAge forum and I hope it's not the last one. I'm the one who programed Coleco Gamepack and some other new Coleco games. Let me talk about me and the origine of the ColecoVision Gamepack project. During my childhood, my brother received a ColecoVision (i think it was end of the year 1982). The first time I see my brother played Donkey Kong and I said to my parents "Hey look! he's playing a cartoon on tv!". About one or two years later, I wanted a computer to do my own ColecoVision videogames. I received a Commodore Vic-20. I programmed all day long with my computer during all my childhood. About seven years later, my brother received a Commodore 64. I went to the library and I found some great books about programming BASIC games. One of these book was named "PROGRAMMES - VIC20 a l'affiche". In this book, there are arcade games, reflexion games, etc... all in BASIC language easy for me to read with a lot of informations. In 1995, it was my first contact with the internet. I was very surprise to find nothing about ColecoVision programming. The only thing I found was the emulators world... but no coleco emulator. The most popular emulators was those made in japanese language. In 1996, a new emulator was released by Marat, a colecovision emulator named ColEm. I was finally able to play again the ColecoVision games I played when I was young. This magic moment remembers me my childhood dream about programming my own ColecoVision games. 1996-1998, new coleco games was released and the only coleco programming tool I found in the internet was the CVEditor by John Dondzila and ASM coding by Norman Nithman and Jeff. During this period, I started programming tools in QuickBasic to modify the binary code in colecovision roms. Late 1998, Marcel de Kogel finally released the coleco library to program new colecovision games in C language. In 1999, I programmed my first ColecoVision game named Breakout. In 2000, I programmed Dacman: my first ColecoVision game to be release in cart (thanks to John Dondzila). After 1999, I released new games, demos and Coleco programming tools. See? I never stop thinking about programming the ColecoVision! In 2002, I worked (at the same time) on "Bejeweled" and a new version of my toolkit C library* named "getput". I tested my new library by doing demos and many little games. I was also inspired by doing a coleco version of an original vic-20 game named "TuneLayer". When my new library was done, I looked at how long it takes to program all these small games. I finally decided to do a new coleco project named "gamepack". Gamepack is not a multicart and playing many games without switching cartridge looks like a good idea. Gamepack was a new challenge for me by optimizing the ROM space. I filled the 32K by adding games based on BASIC games i found in a book named "PROGRAMMES - ORIC a l'affiche" (and, it's writed in the credits). In 2003 (this year), GoodDealGames wanted to release one of my creations, and i proposed to release Gamepack. And now, you know all the story. *: For those who don't know what is a library in programming: a library is like a set of new instructions and this is great to speedup programming softwares. This week it was my birthday, I was very happy to see the annonce about Gamepack. My plan was to release a Gamepack#2 in the future. I've done a 8K demo based on Vic-20 games: "TANK VS UFO","Rocket Command" and "Killer Comet". I'm sure some of you already played these games. Friends of mine tried this new demo. I'm sorry but I decided to not release this demo after reading the critics. Gamepack#2 project is stoped. Keep the ColecoVision alive! Daniel Bienvenu
