  1. Oh, didn't realize the difference was that striking. Now I'm really amazed they got DOOM at all on the SNES... Coprocessors count for a lot.Doom used hte SuperFX. That'sd why it was signifigantly less shitty than Wolfenstein 3D, which was raw unaided SNES.
  2. Wow. I thought the GBA was much more powerful than that and could easily emulate a slow Atari. If memory serves it wasn't until Pentium systems came about that 2600 emulation became possible and judging by how they play various FPS, I don't think SNES were that powerful, and I think the GBA was about SNES level. Atari is tough to emulate, a lot of little details you have to get just right. GBA has FAR more porcessor power than the SNES.We're talking the diffrence between 2 MHz and 33, if memory serves. Of course, VCS emulation IS something of a challenge, as I understand it.
  3. As I understand it, the XBox version is a tad prettier than the PS2 and GC versions. And there's everybody's favorite gameplay change, the special character. PS2 has the Tekken guy(no weapons? ooookay...), XBox has Spawn, and GameCube has Link.
  4. I was looking some stuff up, and found a little about the Studio 2 relatives at Old-computers.com. http://www.old-computers.com/magazine/view.asp?r=2&a=5 Apparently the european units actually just kludged color into the spec. The fact that it was never designed to be color is evidenced by the fact that the diffrent european hardware generates diffrent colors. ... I know there's a Studio 2 somewhere around here. Never had a chance to use it, though. But we still have the instruction manual!
  5. So we know there were at LEAST 3 version sof the modem. And I recall the US ads using the boxy ones, so that's at LEAST 2 diffrent US modems.
  6. If that's the adapter, what's THIS one? This is the one that I showed above as a circuit board. Were there two parts or two models? Or is one another country or what? That's the part I'm wondering. I've only seen the blocky one before. I assume the round one's a revised version. But it's JUST an assumption.
  7. 85% market share, duh. Seriously, look at the Saturn/PSX battle. The Saturn was notoriously hard to program for and as a result had a fraction of the library PS did even before it was snuffed out. The Saturn also launched early in the US(leading to the 1st year drought), and cost far more at first. Later Sega was oozing cash out every orifice because they were trying to price-match the PS, which they just couldn't do because their hardware cost much more. And the Saturn's failure was only state-side. In Japan it was still going strong right up untill Sega killed it so they could focus on the Dreamcast.
  8. The cable was developed to support the new Super VHS videotapes in the 1980's. Naturally it was named "S-VHS cable". Now everyone uses DVDs for their movies. so the cable was renamed "S-Video" to prevent confusion. Both terms are correct, but the term "S-VHS cable" is the older one. It's no different than saying "tissue" or "Kleenex". The term S-video predates DVD.
  9. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!! "Ed, fire the cruise misslie." "But captain, it's just a fisherman in a canoe!" "I don't care. I wanna blow something up."
  10. No, it's a little different. I didn't modify it for S-Video (though I may when I have more time), so it still has the RF cable. Except that it is only carrying RF now, no power through it. I'll write up a description of the mod soon. Does that affect the image quality?
  11. I gave that a shot but it didn't seem to make a difference. I'm pretty sure it's the controllers, as they are different and perform differently. I'll have to try digging up some joysticks that were intended for the 2600. Thanks for the help! Genesis pads SHOULD work.At least, the standard 3 button pads do.
  12. And Dreadnaught Factor rules, too.
  13. I can't imagine what else it would be. Looking at the site it came from would confirm that. http://cgfm2.emuviews.com/segastuf.php#gen and scroll down a bit.
  14. I vote the Jag. I like having more than one button.
  15. Ooooh, mini-itx.com. Haven't seen them in a while... Just to insite everyone into a frothing rage... http://www.mini-itx.com/projects/sx64/
  16. Heh. ... They also had the vastly superior Nintendo Power service, where oyu could buy flash carts and program them for a few bucks at what were essentially game vending machines. I don't think the Sega Channel had a modem. I think you hooked it up to your TV cable. I would suppose it was connected to that DB-9 port on the back of the old Genesis 1. Or am I wrong? Can these "Modem's" be found on eBay today or did Sega recall them in the end? Would be a nice find to have. I'd like to see more info about the Sega Channel.I SERIOUSLY doubt it used the DB-9, as it was released in the time of the Genesis 2.It plugged into the cart slot and TV cable. I think that was it. As far as availability... They were SUPPOSED to be recalled, but not every cable company did. I've spoken to at least one person who still has theirs. They're out there, but not exactly easy to find.
  17. I have SNES9x and have used it on boyh Mac and Windows and it has an option for Mouse AND Super Scope input. So you'd be set with that. It works with ZSNES as well. And IMNSHO, ZSNES is a FAR superior program for most purposes. ... And the fly game rules.
  18. As I understand things it does, but ONLY if you have a PS1 memory card.
  19. They did it in Japan, with the Satellaview.
  20. I keep thinking the Phantom is some bad joke. Then it keeps showing up again.
  21. Are you holding mode down while you power up? 6-button pads don't work the same as 3-button pads unless you do that.
  22. I didn't think the PS got T2k. I only know of a sequel, known as Tempest X3. TX3 was very similar to 2k....I think the only real differences were in the power ups, like a stupider AI drone. Ah. How could the AI drone be dumber, anyways? All it did was move towards the nearest enemy.
  23. I didn't think the PS got T2k. I only know of a sequel, known as Tempest X3.
  24. I saw instructions for a hyper cheap mod once. You hold the CD door switch shut with a rubber band, stick an american game in, turn the DC on(it has to be set up to drop to the DC System interface isntead of booting directly), then wait for the disk to spin down. Then you remove the american game, put the japanese game in, and hit the play button(icon? logo?).
