I'm genuinely owndering how EVERYONE that voted can think the Sony Dual Shock is better than the 5200 stick. Most people wonder how anyone can like a stick that doesn't center. For most of us here, that's pretty much a show stopper, and some would go so far as to blame it for making the 5200 an also-ran. Many of your complaints about the Dual Shock are valid, but at least you don't have to push the stick back into place when you're done moving right or left or up or down. I've long since gotten into the habit of guiding sticks back to center. I do it automatically, even on digital sticks(had an SNES stick lose a spring, and I still use it with no problems). Maybe that's why me and the 5200 get along so well. Thats weird, while the dual shock isnt my favorite controller, i find that i dont have any of the problems that you describe. My thumbs never "tear up" no matter how long i play, and i dont see why the buttons under the analog sticks are stupid. and also usually when both analog sticks are used the shoulder buttons are mainly used for the buttons, if not thats what button configs are for. please elaborate, anyway one of my faves is the saturn controller and IMO somehow the jag controller is most likely gonna come out on top here Well, as you know, the d-pad's construction makes it look like it's 4 seperate buttons. And it's kind of stiff(read: really really stiff). With a thumb resting in the center of the pad, the little "teeth" on the directionals can wear a good blister into it pretty quick in some games. I made the mistake of playing a fighter with it once. Spent the rest of the day vowing I'd never do it again, no matter how good an idea it seemed. Buttons under the analog sticks is bad because it's too easy to hit them accidentally during normal gameplay. As for the face buttons... that's not the point. ... Fine, I retract my rant about the right analog stick. The Jag pad wins because you can make phone calls on it.

It's a damn shame that the Star Trek game ain't a port of the Sega arcade. And yeah, the Cinematronics games are just beautiful. Berzerk, though... That one hurts. The slwodown gets pretty bad pretty quick. ... Of course, from a modern POV you can just pretend you're playing The Matrix, and it's all good. Yah.In some ways it's superior to LCD shutters. It adds color. Never mind the fact that phospher persistence on the screen serves to limit the usefulness of that feature(as I recall, teh major complaint is with red). Having half-assed the games by using DVE, I can tell you that 3D MineStorm was excellent, as befits it's title. Crazy Coaster sucks. Narrow Escape is like one third of the Atari Star Wars game. It's just a REALLY REALLY LONG Death Star trench. Only with enemy ships to blow up. On that note, it's too bad there's no Vectrex Star Wars port, also. ... Wait, that's what Dondzila's there for. Never mind.

Well, maybe the coders botched it on that one. Personally I'd turn teh brightness up, then turn it back down if it was too bright on other games. I advise you to skip the reviews, though. They're rather formulaic. They basically all read as follows... "XXX is an Asteroids rip-off. That's all they made was Asteroids rip offs. They sucked." Yes, quite. It turned the Vectrex into a full-color 3D game machine by using a color wheel. Only 3 games were made for it. http://www.roachnest.com/vectrex/imager.html The box advertises 3D Pole Position, but it never came out. As far as price... mint condition 3D Imager. As of right now, 317 dollars, and with 3 days left in the auction I expect it to get quite a bit higher. Busted 3D Imager 76 bucks, again with 3 days left on the auction.

I used needle-nosed tweezers once. I've heard you can melt a pen cap into the hole then shove a screwdriver in on top of it.

Nintendo's vowed never to leave the console business. The 'Cube 2(whatever it may be called. I'm leaning towarrds GameKlienBottle ) is already under development. The Nintendo reps are supposed to kill any retailers, their families, and any witnesses if the kiosk demos are not returned to them. Hence they are somewhat collectible... Yup. They use the same cyborg ninjas that kill software pirates.

I'm genuinely wondering how EVERYONE that voted can think the Sony Dual Shock is better than the 5200 stick. Sony's pads are the second worst controller design I've ever had the misfortune of using(with #1 going to the original XBox pad). I do admit I've never played a ColecoVision(though I've used my 5200 and INTV fairly heavily), but I find it hard to imagine a worse controller than the PS(aside from variants on a theme, such as the original XBox pad's poor button placement). The d-pad tears my thumb up, the analog sticks are far enough out that I have to stretch my thumbs to reach them, there's buttons under the analog sticks(the sheer idiocy of that one feature never ceases to amaze me, and the only reason it's tollerable at all is most companies have hte decency to not use them), and you can't use the right analog stick in most situations anyways because it removes your thumb from the face buttons.

I think GCE claimed the Vectrex was portable. It had a built-in screen and a carry handle, anyways.I certainly wouldn't label it as such though. Thing's heavy. And needs a good flat surface to play on. And an AC jack. Anyways... I love the NGPC. It's the best portable, in my mind(which pretty much requires a portable to be a handheld).

Finding manual info should be a priority for games with game variations. The emulator DVE comes with text versions of all the manuals. That includes the game variation tables. Limited availability, good games, and loyal fans. Drives the price of anything up. One game. Gods, I love minestorm. You should see what japanese Vectrexes go for. Or a 3D imager. Dunno. I say adjust the brightness up anyways. Assuming your Vectrex has a brightness knob. Mine is MIA. Apparently I knocked it off the table once as a child. The fact that it still works without the knob is somewhat impressive(I have to assume it was just bent back as opposed to broken off, but still...). Everything is possible. Likely and worthwhile are diffrent stories.

That's not true. I still don't find them interesting. But why not? ... I DEMAND A RETURN TO ISA!
-
I vote Saturn.

Virtual Boy? What's the definition of portable here? Anything that uses batteries, anything with a built-in screen, or just anything that claims to be portable?
-
Exactly. Only without changing the raptors to giant rats. We can shoot german soldiers but not german shepards? I love dogs too, Nintendo, but that's a kind of silly change.

Every time I pop open an eBay window I immediatly start looking for the 3D headset. ... I should probably set my sights a tad lower.
-
Ah. My mistake then.

I Force, U-Force, we all buy a U-Force...

Several infrared detectors allegedly monitored the location of your hands. It came with a joystick assembly(solid plastic, no electronics) that plugged into a hole to train you how to use it. -
HAH! And no, you aren't.

I would guess it started as a derogatory term.

He is going to say, "Depends on how well the first one does!" Heh, I thought that said psycho hat. I never really got into Demon Attack. I'd played other versions before(specifically the 99/4a computer one), and by comparison the VCS game is just... mediocre.

It's a unified game engine. Think Zelda. Nope. Just some fancy mode-7 trickery. It really shows too. The SNES wasn't the system for first-person shooters.
-
The Zelda intro wasn't polygons. It was tile-based. It just LOOKS like polys because of the way it's drawn. What? No way. I refuse to believe that.! It looks so smoothly generated. Dead giveaway right there. The SNES couldn't do that that fast. They did what they could with the resolution they were working in(256*224 doesn't make for the sharpest lines in the world).. Virtua Racing is the ONLY Genesis game with a coprocessor. One I have to pick up. How good is the framerate on that? Dunno. Never played it. Wow. If that's a FASTER Framerate, I'd love to see the other versions. No, you don't. Trust me. The Genesis benefits greatly from it's (relatively) high-speed processor in situations like that. Also in fast or corowded games. A Genesis game with slowdown was probably coded wrong to begin with. Arcade. Atari Games didn't make consoles.Didn't you see the System16 link?

Welcome to the Vectrex. I love mine. 'S my favorite game system and I wouldn't part with it for anything. Wish I had as many games as you do. I just have MineStorm, Berzerk, RipOff, Solar Quest, Cosmic Chasm, and Star Trek, all bought during the clearance sales at the end(bought 2 copies of Star Trek accidentally. Ooops).

LIES!Duke Forever will kick every game ever made's ass! ... Okay, so I'm being a TAD overdramatic. But you can't judge it untill you play it.
-
Let me guess... you know the special counter move of "shoulder your opponent hard enough to break his rhythm"? Nah, thats grounds for a DQ...I'm referring to stuff in the game itself I say anyone that uses an infinite juggle against a human opponents deserves it.There's a reason Midway removed it from later revisions of the arcade.

I liked Shogo a lot more, but that's just me. It's pretty evident the world at large didn't give a crap about the game. Awwww... Update on the game engine: They apparently hopped to the Unreal Tournament engine(esentially just the Unreal engine with some bugfixes and new features) right after they changed to the Unreal engine because the version they started with was incredibly buggy. And they're claiming their changes to the engine mean they're currently working about UT2K3 level.
-
I think that's part of what has already happened, actually. Yah. I rmember hearing they ripped it all out and ported it to a newer engine at least once. Likely again, since the only engine move I know of was to the Unreal 1 engine. I also know they've quit saying anything aside from "It'll be done when it's done."
