From what I know the PS2 isn't all that more powerful than the DC, and really lags behind in the visual department.

I fully intend to buy a 5200 and 7800 off eBay at some pointGood plan!
(Well, except for the 5200 part of the plan, that is!
)*strikes SS with a copy of Kangaroo*
5200: Gaming goodness or deadly weapon. Either way, it's all good.

Now code it and I will love you.

I think that IS a RAD.
It's got nothing to do with teh Pico. Just a neat remote control toy.
So just set your transformers up and have the robot shoot them with it's dart gun.

Anyway...I e-mailed Nintendo to satisfy my curiosity. I figured they can tell me anything I could ever want to know about the GC, right?
Here's a quote from their response: "When the lid to your Nintendo GameCube closes, who knows what goes on in there"
Do they think I'm 8 years old, for heaven's sake? Why such a smart-ass answer? Are they trying THAT hard not to reveal anything about their special little discs?
Yeah... And there's a little penguin that turns off the light in my refrigerator.

It was advertised as having 128-bit graphics.KingAtari...Code Veronica... very nice game (Better then the PS2 ver. in graphics IMO too!

I should probably pick it up for PS2, but the DC version is more than good enough for right now. The game certainly looks like it would pass well on a PS2 (especially since I was told the DC runs on a 64-bit processor).
This is the first I've ever heard of there being any debate over the DC's "bitness." Thought it was as advertised 128-bit. What makes ya think it's 64?
Which is true. It's GPU is 128-bit.
But the SH4 CPU isn't 128-bit.
...
Not that bittage matters.
The XBox, the most powerful of the current 3 systems, has a 32-bit processor.

Dunno where I saw the ShdowBlade going for that price.
I DID see someone asking that, though. I wasn't just pulling #s out of my orifice.
-
I LOVE SPACE DUNGEON!Actually, both Robotron and Space Dungeon are games where the 5200 controller really shines imho. ( I posted about this the other day but got no replys about it! boo-hoo
) but you have to have the dual controller holder, which is hard to come by these days.I actually had a kludged together controller for a while. Made it out of 2 semi-working 5200 sticks, cardboard, and a lot of tape.
...
Cardboard flexes too much.

DC's assembled pretty neatly. I doubt you could've hurt it if you weren't doing something stupid like stabbing at the board with a chisel to get those ugly black squares off of it.Those transparent casings were available in a local GameStop a few years ago. I thought about buying one, but didn't want to risk damaging my DC just for a case mod.
On the down side, your modem would never match again.

The stick feels really loose to me. This may be a side effect of the stick being both analog AND digitalHey that wasn't clear for me.. so it's both analog and digital? humm.. way too weird' date=' and I need digital only anyway![/quote']
It's got both pots and microswitches. But only one is active at a time.
Of course, an analog stick needs more travel than a digital one, so the digital side of things just has a horrid amount of play.
I only barely saw that one while looking for reviews of the ShadowBlade. While it's seemingly a bit new(as in I can't find reviews for it)...http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/235458.asp is supposed to be a quite good stick' date=' if what I've read about the XBox version is any indcation.[/quote']
This one looks really good, at least for my tastes

I hope I'll be able to find one where I live!
But for that price, I might very well consider ordering from the US..
Thanks for showing me some light

Regards,
Rasty.-
Another option if you don't need the analog buttons is a PS1 stick. There's a far better selection of them, though they're getting a tad hard to find.
...
Have you checked any of the Hong Kong-based stores like lik-sang? They tend to have more of the esoteric stuff like dead systems and joysticks(sad to say, but most modern gamers just don't care about sticks)
-
My mistake.Uhm, yes I have it, I made the multicart binary image.
That still doesn't mean I know anything about Arcadia games.

Thought you said you didn't have the binary.
...
Wasn't sure how you could include the game without the binary, but I wasn't gonna argue.
Looks ... neat.
It's got the battroid in it, which already places it ahead of a game or 2 I've played.
-
Yeah, but on the other hand, they are great (when working) for open-field games like Centipede & Missile Command.
Yes. 5200 Missile Command is pretty much the best thing this side of a good trackball(and if I had a 5200 trackball...).
My one gripe is that there's only one missile base, despite 14 controller buttons.
Ah well...
-
Dark Forces is good, but I have to third the nomination of the Atari arcade game.
-
What's the appeal behind transparent cases anyways?
I've always thought the guts looked pretty ugly. I thought cases were so we didn't HAVE to look at the ICs and PCBs and so on.
-
It's listed on the label(about 2/3s down the middle column), and you made the cart, so I thought that meant you had the binary. No, I haven't, what is so special about it.
Anyways, I'm a Macross fan, and all anyone seems to know about the game is a box for it appeared in the background of a magazine ad.

The entrance beckons with a poster of a menacing skull and cross-bones done in that unmistakably folksy mechanical dot-matrix style of Broderbund's Print Shop software: "Warning: During closed hours the computers call police if building entered. Armed owner on premises." The skull is surrounded by a border of computer-generated hearts.
HAH!

I too like 5200 sticks.
For most purposes.
I'll agree analog isn't for everything. A lot of stuff it doesn't matter, and some plays a lot better with analog, but some sucks as analog.
Pac-Man and Qix are 2 major offenders in my book.
It's actually more a code problem than a controller problem, really. I tend to roll the stick, and both games "stick" on the diagonals. Qix keeps going the old direction untill you get out of the corner, and if I recall PacMan actually stops dead in his tracks. Sort of an inverse QBert problem.
-
Blasphemy!Or...you can send it to someone to have your 7800 modified to use something more universal by adding a different power connector to the thing.
-
*looks at pics*
You have the binary for the Macross game?!?!
*fanboy mode actiaveted*
OMG! THAT IS SO COOL!
Good game? Bad? Have you even played it? What's it like? Tell me!
-
I haven't actually played with one, but I have handled a demo unit that was strapped ot a shelf(but not hooked to anything
).The stick feels really loose to me. This may be a side effect of the stick being both analog AND digital(with a thumb button to toggle modes), or it may just be a crappy stick(i'm seeing reviews both ways). The buttons also feel a little "mushy".
On the other hand, the ShadowBlade IS considered better than it's competition(1 other PS2 stick). The one from Pelican is near-universally considered abominable crap.
But for the price, there shouldn't be any room for debate.
I've seen a review that says the stick sucks,
one that says it's excellent,
a third that says it's good as long as you don't need to move fast,
and one that completely ignores the stick(The hell? How can you review a joystick and then only talk about buttons?)
At 60$, it's too expensive to be mushy.
While it's seemingly a bit new(as in I can't find reviews for it)...
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/235458.asp is supposed to be a quite good stick, if what I've read about the XBox version is any indcation.
It's also signifigantly cheaper, so if it doesn't measure up, you're out less cash.

I was joking.I want an adapter to use my 5200 sticks on the VCS.I would need to do a little bit of research, but I think that is a possibility (Hard to say for sure as the 5200 stick is analog, while the 2600 is digital.)
-
Nintendo originally intended the NES carts to be 128K, but by the end of the NES's life, they were a megabyte.Well, Nintendo vastly misjudged the market. They very swiftly found a need for other types of games than single-screen arcade games, which required more ROM space. So they fell upon the ever-popular bank-switching to increase the NES' capabilities(much as Atari had for the VCS),
Hypothetically, bank-switching circuits would put the physical limit at the cart size(since you need room for all the ROMs).How big do you think Atari could have made 7800 carts, had they invested in their further development?
-
Sure, take the easy route.I want an adapter to use my 5200 sticks on the VCS.Only if you want to control two paddles with the 5200 stick!

On a serious note, I admit to being curious about how the solderless AV mod works too.
