Hmm if the Atari 2600 console has no wood on it what-so-ever, wonder why some people perfer to it as "2600 4-switch woodgrain" like here http://atari.room34.com/systems.phtmlNo wonder why this all began to confuse me.

Because while it has no wood, it DOES have a woodgrain look.

It has been my experience that Wal-mart must have the absolute worst video-game buyer/department manager in the retail industry. Has not got a clue what is really happening in the industry. That of course is why you're seeing $50 NES cartridges in the N64 era. That and they lose hte leys to their glass cases.
I tried to buy a game from one once, and there was an hour between when I asked to see the game and when I got fed up and left.
There were many people crowded around the case waiting for a game.
The store later decided to shrink the video game section, presumably due to low sales.

You know, for a company that claimed in court that it had to do all manufacturing of cartridges so they could meet its high quality standards, I've found more defective Nintendo systems and cartridges than any other company.Anyone else finding the same to hold true?
My manufacturing problems extend to a copy of Final Fantasy with a bad weld on the backup battery.
Every so often it has to be opened up, because only one tab is welded down, and the other gradually flexes away untill there's a gap and you lose save data.

Ummmm, white? How everyone forgot that one, I'll never know. What other Sega branded ones were there? Colors I mean.
-
You changed that after I replied last time.Actually, I was talking about an update to the 5200 version since this was the only version ever released...
The arcade version WAS released.
The 5200 version is based off the arcade version.

PS Dual Stick adapter? My website has some suggestions (some have already been mentioned):That would be awesome!

It was almost MADE for the purpose.
About the only better controller would be Sega's Virtual On controller, which wins out by being digital(and less ugly).

In no particular order, and keeping it out of the arcades...
Warlords(VCS)
Super Breakout(VCS)
River Raid(VCS)
Space Dungeon(5200)
Crystalis(NES)
Metal Storm(NES)
Qix(Gameboy)
Tetris(Gameboy)
MineStorm(Vectrex)
Berzerk(Vectrex)
Editorial notes:
Space Dungeon rules.
Crystalis beats Zelda by miles.
Metal Storm is a must-play for every NES fan.
5200 Qix is really hurt by what feel to be some questionable decisions about input routine behavior. Otherwise, it would've been on the list instead of the GB version.
GB Tetris is portable. That places it over other versions.
I'm aware Vectrex Berzerk is hardly the best version. It's still my favorite. I don't have to be rational about it.

'Kay. Thanks all.
Good to know they DIDN'T die.
-
I saw them when they appeared at the Science Place back in '98.
They seem to have dropped off the face of the Earth shorty afterwards
This has been bugging me for sometime, and I'd really like to know what happened to them.
-
And on the controller, not the deck. Always a plus to have it accessable when you need it.5200 has a pause button two. -
And can I vent about the ugly yellow/gray color of my Atari and Apple computer systems? Were plastics not to the point then where the long-term effects of UV or whatever where noone could conceptualize how NASTY these things turned out time?
I don't think the manufacturers really cared what they'd look like in 10 years.
No offense.

I think another big problem is bringing it up to US pollution requirements for a mdoern car.You can still get one for like $7k aprox, but as far as I'm concerned you can't import it to the U.S. without making some expensive safety modifications to make it street legal. Just a cultural Tidbitfor y'all.

As I type this, I'm looking at QIX on the XEGS.Gah!
Apologies.
...
How'd they handle there being 2 drawing speeds? I'm sure Qix plays better with a digital stick, but 1 button?
One speed with the button depressed, one speed without.
Ah.
...
Sub-optimal, but if you've only got 1 button, I guess it's the best you can do.

Ah.Question: Why did htey change the BIOS anyways? Was there a bug that needed patching, were they removing controller 3 and 4 support, or was it just to spite 3rd parties and they were hoping to break mroe than 3 games?
The 2-port system "supposedly" has PAL support. The BIOS was adjusted to check the games for which region they were made for. If the game and the system didn't match then they wouldn't boot up.
So it was intended to serve a purpose of sorts, but since a PAL 5200 never came out, it just breaks 3 games.

Actually, I was talking about an update to the 5200 version...
Same diff.
Anwyays, the game met with very little success, and is largely forgotten.
Taito doesn't care about it, and it's their game.

Tallied today:
88 carts, less than 60 unique games.
-
wow, mine is as well. this may be from the fact it was shipped from texas, and the heat was around 100 plus high humidity and such, ...Doubtful.
The guy I got Blackjack from had stored ALL his VCS stuff ina suitcase in his attic. So they were bathing in 125 or so. I got the whole box, sans a few joysticks.
...
Backjack is the only one of the bunch to lose a label.
-
Doki Doki Panic was released in Japan. On the FamiCom Disk System.
It would be on a disk, not a cart.

Call it "Haunted House 2 2".Let me ask this question. When a Homebrew is sold. Is it against the rules to update it after its been sold? Can I go back and upgrade my Haunted House now that my skills are better? Also, I'm still not done with klax. I a few surprises left.

HH II+ would be fine - Just dont call it HH II again - Skeleton on the 2600 had a + made with some enhancements.
How about making an 800 version as well

-
I too own a bald Blackjack.
Only one in my collection that needs a toupee.
-
To be fair, a lot of paddle games don't really require much fire button usage. That just sucks. What's the point of the dual controller then?Though the 1-player only aspect hurts. Bad.
-
I thought it's downfall was poor marketing. 'Least as far as America was concerned.I wish it had longer controller cords though...Yeah it's only downfall.
Or if you get into the other systems like Turbo Duo and then you have to buy all new controllers, as they are not cross compatible.

I can't have a NeoGeo. It scares my 5200.
My 5200 scares most of my other stuff, but it doesn't really mind, so I don't see a problem.
