... gonna figure where I am in Lunar: SSS soon. ...TSS.
Sorry, I'm a very large Lunar fan. I also hated the remakes.
-
Actually, I always figured that to include real golf strategy, you could only be able to have 10 items in your bag, including clubs and weapons. Want a katana? Fine, but you won't have one of your woods.
Replace the putter.
It's not like you use it.
"Sensei, why must I carry putter?"
"Young grasshopper, putter part of sport. You carry it to remind you of ... ahhhh... Because I evil sensei and wish you to feed dragon!"

And if you really want to make it hardcore, have the Ninja use his clubs as weapons. He hits a button and "ka-click" the head of the club pops off to reveal a sharp blade. WHOOSH. Heads roll.
I rather like the image of the ninja swinging his golf club like a sword. Why bother with blades?

It's about time for me to compare the two systems...5200: I've only played this system through emulation, and even though I can get most of the games on it for my 600XL, there are a few that stand out from the others like Berzerk, Space Dungeon, Robotron, Qix, Centipede, and Vanguard.
However, it's the poor controllers that turn me off from the system. That, and it doesn't have 2600 compatbility out of the box.
7800: I've also only played this one through emulation, and the 7800 is a spectacular system (this is coming from the mouth of an NES fan and collector). There a lot of great games for it like Ballblazer, Centipede, Asteroids, Ms. Pac-Man, and Joust. If there has to be one thing the 7800 is great for, it's the kick-ass arcade conversions.
The original games are great too, although some are a little too weird for my taste (like Ninja Golf and Basketbrawl).
And of course, the other thing I like about the 7800 is that it has 2600 compatbility out of the box.I like both systems a lot, but the 5200's horrible controllers keep me away from playing the actual system.
So I'd have to go with the 7800 on this one.
I think this is the longest and most thought-out post I've ever typed.

I've played a bunch of 7800 games through emulators(some day I will own a deck...), and all I have to say is that BallBlazer plays better with analog, even though it looks REALLY sweet on the 7800(and has a POKEY in it, so no sound downgrade!).
As far as compatibility...
I own 2 VCSes. I see backwards compatibility as a non-issue.
Finding the space to leave the 5200 hooked up, however... That's another story. Beauty comes at a price, I suppose.

Got Breakout a few years ago, and finely learned what the analog part of the stick was for.Breakout? I always thought the analog was for Star Wars.

The non-centering joysticks aren't as bad as you've
heard.
Indeed. Oddly enough, for all the complaints, I find the 5200 stick to be among my favorite controllers. Too bad it self-destructs.
It just has a lot more and since it was released earlier has more of
the classic arcade games of the early days. Bezerk (with voice!),
Frogger, Qbert, Galaxian, Missle Command, Jungle Hunt, Pitfall II
(with an 5200 exclusive extra level) and Miner 2049er all are quite
excellent.
Don't forget the esoteric stuff. It's got Qix. And the only home port EVER of Space Dungeon.
...
Missile command makes me sad, though. 14 buttons and only one missile silo.
Yes the 7800 can play all the 2600 ones but lets be honest here. Most
of the 2600 games are bad. And this is 2003, for less than $20 you
can get a cheap Atari 2600 Jr which takes up little space!
Whereas the 5200 is friggin' huge and can't play VCS games.

YES!I think it's a great game. I thought it would be a great game to remake nowadays-- 3d Ninja Golf. Imagine having to hit the ball in city-type areas, and having local gangs attack you for being on their turf. Could be fun!

And you could knock it from rooftops and leap between buildings and smack it off the roofs of cars and it'd be JUST LIKE a ninja movie, only with golf balls!

It's amazing how far novelty cna take a game.

...and I've never even had a NEW boxed NES game. >_Megaman 2.God bless WalMart's stubborn insistence ot mark it down past 30, even in the face of DreamCast games, and the generosity of some people to plunk down 30$ to get it for a birthday gift.

Yah. The 5200 hardware isn't compatible with the VCS, and it most certainly isn't powerful enough to emulate it.Or New Mexico!I just picked up an adapter today - hopefully now I can play the few 2600 games I have that don't work on my 7800. If not, I'll have to dig out my CV and adapter.
Re: the adapter - if I recall it isn't really an adapter at all, its just a 2600 unit that sends the signal through the 5200 - correct?
Hence, a 2600-in-a-box is the only solution, by process of elimination.
If I recall, it even has it's own controller ports, so the 5200 isn't even used for input.

I've also seen GBO thrown around a few places to stand for GameBoy Original.

Best Atari game: Tempest.
Best Atari Games game: RoadBlasters.
Best of the 2...
Likely to change from minute to minute, so I won't say.

I love the INTV1. It's ALMOST as classy looking as a 5200(best. case. ever.).
As far as controllers...
While I loathe hard-wired controllers on principle(a rash of severed cords on my NES and SNES has made me a tad leery of anything that can't be replaced), I haven't had a problem with the INTV's pads(which also have a nice protective cubby).
...
Well, aside from the fundamental flaw in their design. Heaven forbid you want to press more than one button at once.

The Power Base Converter fits a Gen2 QUITE well...
Well, mine does. I grant that this is because the previous owner took a Dremel and cut the back tab off to MAKE it fit, but...
And I love the Control Stick. It's a tad lightweight, but any controller that puts the directionals back under my dominant hand where they belong is good by me.

Ahhhhh...
It's so nice to see someone not afraid to challenge the conventional wisdom.
I too loathed EarthBound. And I have liked many RPGs in the past.
