Is this politically incorrect expansion idea for the TI possible?
JB replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
To answer the question: it could be done, but not through the Tipi card. You'd need a SECOND Pi hooked to your 99. -
We need Triton XT emulation. I'm sure I'll come up with a good reason eventually.

TI is weird. The modulator's actually in the switchbox, not inside the console. The cable carries composite video, mono audio, and DC power to the switchbox. There's no RF video output from the console, because that would make sense(or possibly because they were playing games with the FCC).
-
That's actually brilliant. I never would've thought of running an antenna wire alongside the DC power wire.

Yeah, that's what stopped the Widgit use here, too(the wearing out, not the Geneve). It just ain't robust enough sor the task at hand. The multi-base modification seems like a good idea, but I never worked up the ambition to try it.

The game over scene TERRIFIED me when I was little. I was honestly scared of that game because of it.

Zero Zap is fine. It is in the same vein as video slots, only there is SOME control.

The tape drive is named CS1

Looking for relatively common classic TI arcade games

I quite enjoy the TI port of Moon Patrol. -
Qix is a fantastic game, and one that definitely needs more ports.

It is worth noting that TI produced clones of some popular arcade games of the day. TI Invaders and Munch Man are readily available, and competent "homages" that are easy to overlook if you're focusing on specific titles. Also, if you do get a 32k expansion, you won't need to open the system to install it. It plugs into the right side of the computer, no disassembly required. -

Likewise. I didn't do well, but I had fun failing to do well. -

I usually get hit by them. They spawn close while I'm shooting at something else. -
What would you do with dual screens on a 99/4A?

This is an even better idea. -

Microsurgeon with a full-screen playfield and all the status boxes on the second screen(with a high-color ICU graphic, since we're not limited by the 9918 palette anymore either). -

I've taken some shots, but nothing's gotten outside the 2k range. I keep trying to play Borzork like Berzerk, and dying to stupid deaths because of it. (I miss robots walking into each other) -

It probably changes modes based on the signal input, so just feeding it a PAL signal will be enough to engage PAL mode.

If it makes you feel better, I tried several more times and never got close to 40k again. -

Still not a winner, but I'm a lot closer. Gonna have to get a friend to sit down and play with me, though. I'm pretty sure Blasto was designed as a 2-player game, and solitaire mode was an afterthought. I just keep thinking how fantastic it would be to catch another tank in that chain reaction. -

I'll throw my hat in the ring. Spent a while in MAME with a gamepad, this is my best. Was gonna be real hardware, but we've got a guest sleeping in the room the machine is set up in. There's a lot of luck involved, since the the board layout has so much impact on speed. Biggest non-luck obstacle: Judging how long you have to touch the direction to move versus just rotate in place. I lost a few seconds on several runs to impromptu tank-dancing sessions. -
Not just CGA. The Tandy Color Computer's entire colorization system was based on this. So was the Apple II's.

now that I got my Ti going, what's the most optimal upgrade path?
JB replied to tater1337's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Yeah. Just a busboard and power supply(and cooling fan and card supports).
