Muzz73 replied to flashjazzcat's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
This looks great! Looking forward to the Incognito version (if I ever get mine installed). -
PM sent.

I just posted this in the ST/Falcon forum, then realized it might go better here... A friend of mine has come into a Falcon system in a tower case with the some sort of 68060 upgrade board (one that wouldn't fit into the original Falcon case, if I understand it correctly). He's actually hoping that there is someone out there with a working, mostly stock NTSC Falcon who would be willing to trade straight across for it. Upgraded RAM, HDD and the "audio fix" are OK, but he wants the case to be stock (no holes drilled in it from upgrades), the keyboard to be original and everything in good working order/good cosmetic shape. I am not completely sure of the specs. on this thing, but I know it's pretty beefy and I can get them if necessary. We are located in central California (USA) and would prefer someone within driving distance (this thing is bulky and heavy), but shipping arrangements can be made if need be. PM me if interested.

Indeed. I wish nothing but the best to him and to his family. Get well, fellow Atarian. -

These were taken with my old phone, about three years ago. Please pardon the terrible image quality: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1042853982391910&set=a.554318737912106.134555.100000019541825&type=3&theater https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1042853972391911&set=a.554318737912106.134555.100000019541825&type=3&theater I took it all apart, removed the black, rubber feet, peeled the label off of the bottom, taped off the badge on the top (because they are a pain to get off without ruining them), scrubbed it clean (inside & out), then used a spray-on red paint that was designed to stick to plastic patio furniture without using primer. I then reapplied the label and put four new silicone feet on the bottom while the paint was still tacky, so those aren't coming off anytime soon. It was a lot of fun to do and really took care of the horrible, yellowing problem. It's been 3+ years and it's scratched up from use. Should I apply a new coat, or try a different color? What do all of you think?

The color scheme (per Commodore) for the VIC-20 was: "Ivory" (the case), "Chocolate" (the keyboard) and "Mustard" for the function keys (my family and I have always referred the the function keys as "Peanut Butter", because we feel it's more accurate/fun). The case coloring was consistent throughout the VIC-20's production, but the ever-dreaded sunburn/yellowing-with-age has given us many different shades of yuck over the last 30+ years. IIRC, the first year of production had the PET style keys, the last year of production used a C=64 keyboard (with gray function keys) and the two years in-between had a C=64 style keyboard with yellow function keys. My painted my VIC-20 bright red and put a white keyboard from a 64C into it. Snazzy!

Commode Doors? Hahaha! I had never heard that one until now! When I was a C= guy, the Apple ][ people in my area called us "Commie Dorks". Not trying to start a flame war, just sayin'...

I had a girlfriend with a couple of eating disorders and I wasn't able to help her (we're not together anymore and she's still around, but still has the disorders AFAIK). I can sympathize to a small degree, in watching someone that you love succumb to a terrible illness like that. I wish only the best for all of you and please, by all means, keep us posted as to her progress, if you are able. And yes, maybe we can hook her up with an XEGS, later... she's an Atarian already, she just doesn't know it, yet.
-
Goodness... I hadn't heard until now, but I'm very glad that she is on the mend. You must be doing better with her release, yourself. Thank you for sharing.

That... is... beautiful!

Brad is usually easiest to reach via e-mail. All you need to do is ask him to get you a price plus shipping to your zip code and you usually get a response in less than 24 hours.

I don't mean to pry, but I just bought a new 800 keyboard from Best Electronics and Brad told me that he's 3/4 of the way through his last box, so if you need a NOS, now is the time. Just an FYI to all.

Model name for an Atari 800 with an Incognito
Muzz73 replied to gozar's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I call mine Larry. -
I am also looking for an Atari compatible printer, but I want something pin-fed, for fan fold paper. Is the XMM-801 my only option without going third party?

I had a first generation 64C back in the 80's and the down direction went out on joystick port #2. It turns out that one of my 6526's was bad, so I bought one from my local C= dealer and popped open the 64C to find out that ONE of the chips was socketed and the other was not. Take a wild guess which one had gone bad...

Yes, I have had repairs done by Ray Carlsen on a few of my VIC-20's and he is not only a great, respectable guy, but a true Commodore genius! I recommend him very highly!

My son kidnapped my TI-99/4a, but it's all good... he loves Parsec with the Speech Synthesizer! Yeah, he just plays games on it, but I love looking into his room and seeing his gaming PC, his XBOX 360 and the TI side by side.

places to buy Atari computer stuff OTHER then feebay
Muzz73 replied to Atari-Collector's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Exactly! I have personally experienced that twice, both times with the same seller! I got a message via ebay that the winning bidder changed his mind and that I could have the item for whatever my last bid was. I turned him down both times, figuring that it was probably a buddy of his or even the seller himself logging in with a different account and running the price up. -

If you're going to do the ebay thing, just be careful and don't get into a bidding war. There are man possibilities with ebay, but the two most common are: You get a heck of deal on something really awesome --or-- Idiots will fight over junk I have been both of those at one point or another... -
Indeed. Please give him kind regards from all of us on AtariAge when you speak to him next, if you would.

I've always thought that 8-bit analogue machines look best on a CRT, and being that it's a Trinitron, I thought I'd give it a go. That and I'd love to play Fort Apocalypse on a 32" screen... heh heh... If it doesn't pan out, I always have my trusty old C=1701 to fall back on.
-
Necro-bump/Update: the company recycled one of the big CRT Trinitrons and the other is now in the back of my vehicle! Now I have to figure out where I'm going to put it...
