  1. Honestly Curt, if anything I, personally posted in that thread hurt or offended you, I apologize. Sometimes, people let he heat of the moment/argument/discussion get the better of them. Myself, very much included. Rest up, and get well.

  2. Was there ever anything else unearthed on this game that was real, besides the box art and screenshot mockups from the Console Box and early catalogs?

  3. You stupid bastards. All this trash talk and belittling, and "I" get my status update privileges revoked. what the fuck is wrong with some of you? I've been waiting for a long time for the 25th anniversary 7800, and XM both paid for, and I've never cried one bit. So if you don't want to wait...then ask for a refund and shut up! I've been a member here since 2008, and I had to be (to everyones expectations) good and civil, or a whole certain bunch of you, will gang up and try to get rid of someone cause they're not "behaving" to their liking! Kiss my ass! No more! Don't like it? too bad. Go cry to a Mod, or go cry to Albert.. maybe he will answer you cause that goof won't answer any of my emails concerning my status updating.

    I'm NOT going any where!

But I wouldn't be surprised if curt does finish up the XM and then tells you all to shove it up your asses, and leaves.

This post is distinctly Un-Canadian. I though you people were all supposed to be polite and friendly.

  4. I don't think it's fair to make assumptions based on his facebook page. One can have a personal life right?

The point of the discussion, or so I thought, was that people are upset with the lack of progress on the project, but more accurately the lack up updates/new information, or at least a reasonable explanation of the delays.

When someone comes on to this board where they advertised their upcoming product, and where they took in thousands in pre-order monies for said product, and then several YEARS pass, and many missed deadlines later, that person decides they are going to outright STOP updating the people on the board without explanation, - yet this same person has all the time in the world to make 15 Facebook posts a day about how awesome their summer is going, well - it's pretty easy to see why someone would be upset about it.

Everyone here wishes Curt better health and success in his surgery. that's not the issue.

it's the lack of updates vs. him posting up a storm on Facebook and essentially completely ignoring his obligations re: XM. and that's the real problem here, the second he took money from people for it, it ceased to be a "fun project" and became an obligation. Most people don't like it when you don't live up to your obligations. In the case of money, you can be sued for it.

  5. If he's having heart issues, the last thing he probably wants to do is deal with an issue that will get him upset and angry. He needs to remain calm and not deal with this. Not making excuses and I don't have a dog in the fight, just an observation.

I would have thought this too. But then looking at his Facebook profile, it appears he's a gym rat who works out frequently, and has plenty of time on his hands for that and other strenuous physical activity. I'm not trying to lessen the importance of his health issues, but they don't seem to be affecting him physically. It's clearly a conscious choice he's making not to work on the XM.

  6. Adding a POKEY chip to existing DK XM carts isn't feasible. A new board, like CPUWIZ's versaboard would be necessary, along with the POKEY chip, PLD, ROM and other misc hardware. The shell is the only thing that could be reused.

I think a good alternative project would be a very scaled down device. Maybe something in the form of the HSC. It could have HSC BIOS, NVRAM, POKEY and maybe additiona RAM. It would be a fairly simple board and would acheive the goal of allowing POKEY sound in future games but without the need for sound chips in every cart. It could be easily pulled out when one want's to play standard carts. But someone with the mad skilz of CPUWIZ would have to take that on. ;)

i would buy the shit out of one of these.

  7. So I am on Facebook, and wouldn't you know it - Curt's profile is wide open. In the last two weeks since he last lurked on atariage, he did make one post about health stuff, but it seemed more routine than dangerous. It wasn't very specific. However, he's also posted 60+ times in Facebook in that time span. Taking his kids out. Hitting the gym about 15 times. Swimming in the pool. Sightseeing around his city.

Not a single post about the XM or anything even remotely Atari related.

Make of that what you will.

There's no updates because he's simply not working on it and ignoring everyone.

  8. This is why I avoid preordering homebrew hardware products. I usually wait for the second or later runs. Granted if everybody did that, they wouldn't get made. I'm someone who would be going berserk with the delay, so I knew I shouldn't pre-order!

CPUWIZ's Versaboard, which does 3/4 of the functionality that the XM does, was produced in about 2-3 months, with no pre-order money. Just his love of the project and his own money. When I look at that, and then look at how the XM has had 4 years and thousands in pre-order money going for it, I have to wonder "why?"

  9. Why do they??

because it's nearly 5 years now since all the pre-orderers paid full price for it, and it hasn't been delivered yet, and there still isn't a release date. There are some people who are very angry about that being the current situation, and some people who are very defensive about it taking that long being "normal" for a project like this.

When these two kinds of posters meet, arguments start.

It's ugly any way you look at it.

  10.

He's hiding from the masses that he owes a ton of hardware or money too for a huge project he never came good on 5 years ago. So I doubt your gonna see him around.

This seems to be a running theme in the 7800 scene. *ducks*

  11. I love all these unwritten rules certain Internet forums have.

"Don't answer questions that have been answered once, 15 years ago, on a Geocities homepage some retrogamer made that has since been deleted."

Or the famous forum conundrum: "Don't start new threads on a subject that had a thread 4 years ago because you're being redundant, but also don't necro-bump older threads because it's bad forum etiquette. Just read what others wrote and shut up."

Some days it's almost like most of these retro gaming forums should have a huge disclaimer "Just don't post anything unless you're part of the pre-established cool kids clique. In fact, don't even register. Just go back to digitalpress forums, peasant."

  12. Now $280 shipped for the PS3 set. This is a really good deal. It is the original backward compatible model with a nice 500GB hard drive, all original paperwork/boxes, two official controllers, etc. I paid a WHOLE lot more than what I am asking. This is the lowest I will go.

Which version of the Firmware is it at? Is that 4.46 official Sony Firmware, or is it a Custom Firmware?

  13.

Well, I never was paid - in carts - for all of my tips The Atarian published of mine since Atari Corp got mad, fired their entire executive staff, and pulped that last issue of Atari Explorer. So I wrote to Atari Corp and got nothing back in return. Wrote to Gary Tramiel and received no response. Then I brought it up to him at the shareholder's meeting. I wanted multiple carts but he said 1 so I selected a Lynx game - instead of a 7800 game - which he agreed to and I requested Dirty Larry. He then provided me with a copy of it.

So let's get this straight - you were a stockholder of Atari Corp, and a staff writer for their Magazine - when you were 13?

  14. "The 7800 was more powerful than the NES and they were both designed during the same time."

I could be wrong, but the Famicom, which is essentially an NES... was released in Japan in 1983 correct? So, one could assume that the development for the system could have been in 1982. What was the time period in which the Atari 7800 was being developed?

The 7800 was ready to be released in 1984 originally, so it was developed 1982-83.

  15. Wow. I'd really like one of these, but every conversation on the topic becomes an argument of "This is taking too long" vs. "There's no such thing as too long, stop whining about this." and it's completely counterproductive on both sides.

4 years is a long time to wait for something. There's nothing unreasonable or unfair about being disappointed that something is taking that long to come to fruition, especially when monies have already been collected. It's also less encouraging that the person running the project won't talk about the current status of the project on the board any long, but still actively posts about other subjects on the board on a regular basis (once a week or so).

Corby, even if some of the posts in this thread are worded in a bit of an infantile manner, or not to your liking, the basic questions being asked here are not unreasonable.
