Wizard of Wor - How IS the 5200 version?
Cafeman replied to OldSchoolRetroGamer's topic in Atari 5200
There is no flicker. The characters appear to be software sprites. I didnt check what graphics mode it uses, but if the game was redrawn using Antic mode 4 , you'd get more detailed graphics. Lol, I found my old review if the game. http://cafeman.www9.50megs.com/atari/5200wizardofwor.html -
Wizard of Wor - How IS the 5200 version?
Cafeman replied to OldSchoolRetroGamer's topic in Atari 5200
I played it quite a bit over the years, 5200 WoW is a good port. Lots of fun once you plug your stick into port 2! I like the loud POKEY tune between levels. I seem to remember it is a medium resolution thus a bit blockier than the coin op version. But that doesn't affect the playability. -
I just read this news, sorry for your most recent health crisis, CPUWIZ. Hope you are feeling better and back home soon!

Anyone else think Super Pacman is severely underrated?
Cafeman replied to ColecoKing's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I hated it at first and refused to play it. Similar to @Pixelboy comments above, it seemed less pure and more gimmicky, and I wasn't wasting my 25c. But over time I've given it some time, and it is a very fun game. It probably is underrated as a fun game. I like it more than Jr Pac-Man with its scrolling playfield and tough difficulty. -
This doesn’t bode well for the AtariVox

Alien Adventures....A Homebrew written by a female?

Thanks! I don’t think a CRT would ever roll due to this code. Today I got feedback from a programmer, there was still an improvement to be made, now the screen transition looks a bit cleaner and doesn’t roll on my Panny Plasma either. My confusion was tied to the timing of writes to the SDMCTL shadow register controlling Antic. It isn’t immediate but is executed on the next VBI. So problem solved and game is (once again) finished. Wait till everyone sees the beautiful manual!

So the 3 AI's are Red and are all Players, and Player1's guy is another player sprite (Yellow). But all the missiles are purple - at first I was surprised , I assume you are using the missiles all linked together right? I've read about that but never used it. I believe the '5th player' inherits one of the BG colors, is that correct? Assuming I'm right and you linked the 4 missiles into a 5th player (what it's term), I was not aware you could still position the missile pixels independently! I thought they would be all together like a Player sprite's 8 pixels. The game looks quite appealing in motion. I hope there are different colors for the enemies and not all being red all the time. I'm not very famliar with the Inty original, but no reason you can't have more variety across the stages with colors. I'm anxious to see what cool bonks and buzzes and musical ditties you might throw in there.

The Running Man should have a name starting with Mister. Or perhaps Dr. He's intelligent after all. And athletic. Mr. Plimpton? Or perhaps Mr. Robinson? Mr. Pixels? ehh, nobody will ever agree on a name.

I don't think 2020 Cafeman can beat 20xx Cafeman's record. But I'm glad the game is set to Advanced (I'd have suggested Expert to be honest - maybe next time).

EDIT - the minor issue reported here is now resolved. Could everybody who played at least one round of the demos I posted this year answer a question for me? When you beat a game , did you ever see the rankings screen kind of roll when it loaded up? Or when the game returns to the title screen, have you ever seen the title screen do a quick roll When it loads up? These are the same screen in the game, but with different info on them. Running my XEGS through a Radio shack multi box into a Panasonic Plasma with RCA cables I have seen this screen roll, and could never fix it or figure out why. So today I plugged the XEGS into my little Vizio flat screen with same RCA cables .... and it never rolled once. The game code has been completed for a while, but I thought I'd try to figure it out, but now I think I was chasing a red herring. Please respond with your experience, yes it rolls sometimes or no you never saw it.

I used to love reading it. Over time, it started to seem I had already read it all and there were fewer things in the mag that interested me. I'm from USA mind you, and I can only take so much Speccy content since I never even saw that hardware in person. I always picked up the issues that interested me at Barnes & Noble, which I have not visited for about half a year. I have stacks of the magazine and I will likely reread many of those someday soon. Can't comment on the most recent issues.

Maybe that's how the Jag version looks.

I never got to try the Jag version but I love the Sega CD version. Its a great platformer , very well animated . Plus it has the original Pitfall in it, which was a plus back when it released with the sorry state of emulation at the time.

PS4 Beach Buggy Racing 5 hours. I've owned this 2 years and decided to beat the entire game, of which there are many races. The game crashed trying to save, and I lost hours of gameplay progress on the save file (it reverted to an older version??? Not sure what happened). So I played some more, but every 5 races or so I'd reboot the game (maybe there is a memory leak if you play too long at one time, I thought). Beat the final 1000cc race/boss, also had enough money to level-up some extra vehicles to 500cc and 1000cc and try them out. I like the surf guitar soundtrack and the many beachfront locations of the races, makes it unique. But I think I'm done with the game now.

He said he was playing using emulators, Last month I played 5200 Kangaroo on Altirra, and experienced sticking joystick controls, solved for me by pressing left right up and down a moment each - which fixed the problem. It only happened on the first game I played after boot up.
