  1. Nope, just get a second hand working monitor, or if it's only a blown transistor or capacitor, it just might be an easy fix. Unless Rastan is a Vector game...
  2. It sounds like either a bad monitor or a bad cable. But heck, it may also be a bust power supply or even a broken Color Prom (the babies that actually turn bits into colors) But it sounds like an easy fix, one way or the other. Just be calm while working on it and try to obtain the schematics for the game.
  3. Well on one of the dutch shows for kids called B.O.O.S. (a show for 10year olds or teens iirc) they played good games of KlaX. I dont know if it was the arcade or any console version (it was at least ten years ago).
  4. First try to fix it. Games that 'dont come on' are either easy fixes or burnt out totally. Start of with the cord and fuses, then move on to the power supply. If that is OK, then the monitor should be able to work. If it does work, then you can check the monitor and decide then whether to use it or not. I'm personally in favor of using the original screen (if it's not burnt in or anything), because it feels more like the real thing. It's also more difficult to get to work with a PC, but there is plenty of documentation about it.
  5. Sites like DVDsoon.com and DVDboxoffice.com carry several cheap games. May i recommend (if you have a GBA lying around) that you get PacMan VS (comes in a bundle with PacMan World 2 for only about 20 US$). It's a great fun simple multiplayer experience. Another good party game is Super Monkey Ball, with a easier racing game than Mario Kart Double Dash. Perhaps Mario Party 4 is still available cheaply somewhere?
  6. There's nearly nothing left here in the netherlands.
  7. Actually, the GBA and GBA SP both have a fairly long warranty -- 1 year. Since the SP came out in march in the US, that would leave at least 4 months on the warranty, if it was bought at launch. Is one year a 'fairly long warranty'? It's even less than our national/european legal requirements for such equipment, 2 year manufacturers warranty.
  8. Zelda Link to the Past is available on GBA, that's why they don't give it away in a freebie. Metroid 1 is unlockable in Metroid Prime. There is a megaman disc coming. So you're covered!
  9. 10 seconds... That's not a lot... Something historical, something great... And yet... I seem to be drawn to 'Steamboat Willy', the first cartoon animation by Walt Disney.
  10. What i'd do (actually, what i'm doing right now) is get a simple Jamma cabinet. It can be butt ugly, as long as it has a working monitor in it, and the usual power supply and joysticks. Thats a good starting point. A big beautiful Arcade monitor, preferably with a mount that's rotatable (for horizontal and vertical games). I got my monitor with frame and power supply for free from someone who was making a MAME cabinet, but with a big 21" SVGA monitor. I now have the monitor standing on a bare frame on my desk. I made a Jamma harness and some other things and it's playable! Then score some cheap but good jamma games, or some older, if you are cool with making your own conversion harness (so you can wire a pacman to jamma). I personally prefer shooter type of games, so i got a few of those off ebay, and i got bummed by someone with a bunch of broken games before that. But the broken games are games that I might be able to fix, and I enjoy fixing stuff. But if electronics are not your thing, just get working ones.
  11. Actually, those prototype discs are only supposed to work on official Nintendo Reader systems (gamecubes without the protection)
  12. What would the price be on that starwars boardset? Not that i have a vector monitor, but that should be fixable somehow.
  13. That burnt backwards rumor is completely untrue. But currently you can't make a disc. You can however use the broadband adaptor and Phantasy Star Online to download games into it. Which ofcourse violates all licences etc and is highly illegal, but it is possible.
  14. Cool photo... I'm going to look in my albums soon, see if i can find me gaming... StarWars pajama's... cool!
  15. Some fun facts on Space Invaders:
  16. What are slow pills? Some kind of weird stuff that messes up your sense of time, so that you seem faster than everyone around you, like living in a slow motion picture. Ofcourse, it may be the other way round. I'm not all that knowledgeable in drugs. Not all Dutch people are Pot Heads
  17. http://www.lik-sang.com/news.php?artc=3241 http://image.lik-sang.com/content/donkey_k..._konga_demo.wmv < a demo video.
  18. Actually, with some good soldering skills and a set of pliers, you can make the normal rom fit nicely on a gameboy pcb (like a SMD part). I've seen pirate carts done that way.
  19. In my personal opinion, it all comes down to what kind of games you'd like to play. I have a GameCube and a PS/2, and the PS/2 does nothing but gathering dust. The GameCube is my system because of Metroid Prime, Super Monkey Ball, Ikaruga, Mario Kart Double Dash, StarWars Rebel Strike and many other great exclusive titles. The only reason i'd buy an XBOX would be to play Crimson Skies. And the only PS/2 game I like is WipeOut Fusion. But maybe you like Final Fantasy and its sorts. Then you are better of with a PS/2. The GameCube for 99 dollars/euro's is a very good deal for anyone who likes Cube games. But if you don't like 'em, skip the Cube. Get a Xbox. Hell, even get a PS/2 (and after a year another one, and another one and another one)
  20. If you really want good value for your money, get a core book set for Dungeons and Dragons, Edition 3.5. Then play with a bit of paper, some dice and a few friends. That way, you can create new games on the fly, aren't limited to the rules and game mechanics of the programmers and have a nice 'screen free' evening
  21. If a pong does weird stuff, just unplug it, let it rest for a minute and try again. If it still exibits strange behaviour, then try resoldering al connections, reseat al chips and replace any blown capacitors. An Atari Pong IV is probably one of them 'modern' highly integrated pong on a chip systems. So if it still does weird stuff, i'd start looking for a replacement board.
  22. Everyone can relax, nintendo has already confirmed a US and EUR release.
  23. Tip of the day for all the NES lovers here. Get some generic kitchen cleaning spray (ultra de-greasing stuff) and give that connector a good shot of it. Then the cartridges and you'll notice that all games play properly now.
  24. http://www.arcadedocs.com/vidmanuals/T/Tank.pdf the service manual for 'Tank' by Kee/Atari. Read it carefully before doing anything. If you see any reference in or on your cabinet that it might be a Tank 8, please get in contact with the dudes at mame. And once again: If you have any doubts, any questions, don't make a mess of that game, just ask around here. There is loads of knowledge just a mouse click away.
  25. Outrun, LifeForce (Salamander), and some other things.
