you should be using luma and chroma for s-video or l-c-a monitors...

if you are using composite monitor then use the composite signal...

or you can combine LC(svideo) with coupling caps and get your own fine tuned composite from there...

You television/monitor input from source menu looks to be composite only...

Thank you for the info. I was only concentrating on the Atari side.

I understand from the above that, the TV/monitor must have the S-Video jack/outlet to receive the Chroma signal form Atari (which it failed and only showed white/black screen) ?

...This topic usually appears "shrouded" by countless posts, multiple threads, etc. (and lots of information) but little "definitive", straight-forward answers.

The reality (as it may surprise you) is that the 800XL (in the NTSC domain) requires ABSOLUTELY MINIMAL changes to its on-board video circuitry in order to drive out a decent, clean s-video signal. That is right, NO internal boards, no need to remove RF modulator, no need to mass-murder passive components, add "pick-up" resistors, etc., (assuming a decent CRT/LCD TV set or LCD+Video Processor combo, and you are not going to use miles-long video cabling).

It would all depend on your MoBo revision. In general terms, all you need to do is (again, for NTSC version):

    1. REMOVE C56 capacitor (if present). This will dramatically improve sharpness and "edge"-definition.

    2. Lift C54 right-hand side, preferably by inserting an on-off switch (if you want to preserve composite out). This will almost COMPLETELY remove vertical banding (present on Luminance-Y signal).

    3. Solder Chroma-signal wire from R67/R68 junction, to chroma pin in video port. This will enable the missing chroma-signal on the 800XL (the majority DO NOT have it enabled). No need for pick-up resistor (of any kind).

    ...

    Enjoy!

I tried to conduct the simple video mod on my NTSC 800XL rev."C" made in Honk Kong. It is equipped with an Ultimate U1MB. The TV is 65" Dansat.

When the other side of C54 is lifted, the screen is always back and white.

Color is possible only when the C54 is connected.

Let the picture explain it better:

Note: Connection through 4 is only possible if wire is removed and C54 is in place.

So, need your advice please. I thought it would be easy.🤪

What are we meaning by 'text format' here?

Just a direct conversion of byte values, carriage return / line feed handling?

    160 A=USR(ADR("hð(h…Ïh…Ωà…Í© …Ì¢ ¡ÌÎæÌÐæÍ¥ÍÉäðæÎÐìæÏÐè` "),CHB)

Displaying of graphical and inverse characters 'as-is'?

(I can't recall the URL of the site which allows you to upload files and it converts to an image file, maybe jpg/png, or even a pdf)

    image.thumb.png.fa0301c4faa9f80ab2ff50ba2c97f0f8.png

Or in a magazine/book type convention?

3100 PRINT:PRINT:PRINT" WHEN READY TO BEGIN TRANSMISSION[14 spaces][inverse] PRESS RETURN [inverse off]"

For the latter, there doesn't appear to be a definitive convention for this that could, for example, be adopted by an emulator to import a text file or a separate program to convert to/from a BAS file.

Use the stand alone PC utility MemoPad R26 , or use AtariGeezer's excellent PC utility ATRTools-027f

In my continuous search for a comprehensive Atari file management software, couldn't find a better one than this:

    Atari File-Management v1.7.002

Even though it has its pitfalls, still outweighs all available managers (in my opinion).

It is a decent image directory that searches PC directories, and files within ATR images, add files and delete them.

    Supports several DOS formats.

Also, it exports ascii export option.

The best of all, it can be made to run executables through emulators. See photos (directories of Pooldisk_Too_CD1)

I'm not sure where you can find them, but AFAIK the AMC titles where handed over to ABBUC as PD...(?)

    I guess @CharlieChaplin knows more...

I Tried to uplode the Megaprint II and Megafont II+ disk images, but I got this message: "6 please contact us for assistance." ??

  6. Strange..

    I tested the game on Altirra 3.10-test28 WIN10 X64

The file: Ikhtabir Thaka'ak (198x)(aDawliah)(SA),bin works only when AltirraOS for XL/XE/XEGS is selected as an OS. The cartridge mapper 52 *MicroCalc 32K also must be selected.

The file: Ikhtabir Thaka'ak (198x)(aDawliah)(SA).car, is automatically picked up by Altirra.

The game executed normally using either:

    Atari XL/XE/XEGS OS ver.4
    or
    AltirraOS for XL/XE/XEGS.
For any other OS, the game screen for (.car) will load but when an option is selected (using arrows) and then Enter is pressed, the emulator freezes

    Hello @Kr0tki and all,

I used the AtariMax software along with the MAX Flash USB Programmer. From the above 5 schemes, I chose 8, 24, 31, and 42. For some reason I was not able to find Express 64 KB cartridge.

After saving each dump, I removed and inserted the cartridge from the slot, and proceeded to the next dump.

    I hope this works.

    Hi atari65xenajm

I only managed to run the following file:

    31_MegaCart_512_Ikhtabir_Thakaak.bin

Actually it is not Ikhtabir Thakaak.bin. It is Bank_ul_Maalumat.bin which was reported as working file in an earlier post.

  8. Hi Ben, only as a SCP image, no atx in there...Have no idea of the command line to use with Averys tool..

Ignore, learnt what the command line was and made it myself...Edit: but it crashes for me...Most likely not knowing enough about the main program..

    Cheers..

    Same findings.

I guess that the conversion of The_Tail_of_Beta_Lyrae__Databyte.scp image file went wrong at some where in the conversion process of the original disk.

The summery obtained from the conversion at the CMD (Command Prompt) window using a8rawconv.exe is identical to that in the The_Tail_of_Beta_Lyrae__Databyte.txt file found in the zip file.

    i.e : 330 missing sectors, 49 phantom sectors, 17 sectors with errors.

  9. Thank you Madi...

Do you by any chance remember where you got that file from?

Its something I've never had and as ever the collector I'd love to see if there's more where that came from?

Big ask but some of you guys database everything about the files :)

    Paul..

    Downloaded from http://atarionline.pl/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=3369&page=1

    This link..

Do not forget to add (.ATR) to the end of the downloaded image file.

  10. As seen in the video, its got a bad sector on his one and I presume that is what he's saying amongst other stuff

Never heard pf these menu disks (afaik), rare? known type or user created with a disk ed?

Just curious...Love the drive, saw it on Atari Sector...

    Paul..

    Hi Mclaneinc

I found this disk image with the same loader you are looking for. A quick look at the image, it shows that the loader resides in directory sectors (361-368). This loader also can access sectors beyond 720.

  11. Ok, after some thread hijacking, I will try to bring this thread back to its due course. ;)

The seller of the two aDawliah cartridges was kind enough to knock $150 off his price of the two cartridges.

I dumped the cartridges into a bin/rom image, but the mapping remains a problem to be solved. Unfortunately I cannot open the cartridge to show pictures of the PCB. Any other suggestions?

    Hi atari65xenajm

Unfortunately, the second file (Ikhtabir Thakaak.bin) didn't work for me under Altirra.

  12. I suppose that makes sense if you are an ATARI only guy. But otherwise why does it have to be added ATARI experience? Why can't it be a new experience built into an ATARI? Especially if you have more than one 8-bit ATARI. But actually a Blitter chip is an ATARI experience, just not an 8-bit experience. RGB out is an ATARI experience, just not an 8-bit one, I could go on an on. Anyway, your reason is fine and good, as long as all you are interested in is an ATARI 8-bit experience and aren't interested in any other computers or systems. Plenty of other valid reasons for not wanting one too, that make sense, including just plain not being interested in the tech, but there's nothing stopping you from still having an ATARI experience, and more with a VBXE installed.

I only plan on having one 8-bit out of my 3 with a VBXE. So I'll have fun with a new 16/32-bit system inside my 8-bit system, and in combination, and also still have pure ATARI 8-bit fun when not using the VBXE in it or on one of my other machines. It's cheaper than a Falcon and more powerful than an ST...almost Amiga like...huh...And to think, the Amiga was almost an ATARI, Designed by practically the same team that designed the ATARI 400/800.

Gunstar, You are quite right. I never owned any computer other than Atari 800XL (1982 until 1995). So, the word “computer” is always meant Atari 8-bit machines to me.

I only recently heard about Blitter chip which many old Atarians (8bit) never heard of and is not part of their experience. On the contrary I defiantly, enjoying my U1MB that is installed on my 800XL. Although not utilizing all its rich features, but with it I can feel the joy of the extra ram and the other OSs I had in my original 800 XL in the back days (Terminator 512K and RAMROD/Omniview/omnimon XL roms).

Of course I examined some featured of the VBXE under Altirra, but did not have that much of like to it. It did not give me the impression of being using classic Atari 8-bit except, for having the thoughts of installing an alien hardware inside Atari which only absorbs/wastes its power (sorry for that).

  13. Avery, is it me or on version 18 you no longer get crash dialogues..The NTSC rampage should show a crash dialogue when it hits demo round 2 but you visually see its died but no crash dialogue?

I've tried LOADS of stuff and there's not been one crash dialogue where I usually got one...By product, it also fixes the F1 warp issue, as its not showing the crash dialogue the speed returns to normal when you let go...

No crash dialogue tried with and without warp speeding it...

The crash dialogue is still there. (test 18)

Be sure that the "Enable Debugger" option is not checked. (the crash dialogue doesn't show if debugger is enabled".

Confirmed: The F1 issue is fixed.

  14. I've got a reproducible example now of "Warp Speed" mode getting locked and unchangeable (other than restarting Altirra).

    True.

Also, Warp Speed persists even if Altirra is Cold Started, changed memory config, or any option that usually triggers Cold start.

The Wrap speed never go away unless Altirra is turned off.

  15. It seems that my English vocabulary is becoming ancient. I had to look further for the meaning of "BS" to understand the tone of the message.

I like the way of how to make the SIO cable ends explained by @mechanerd.

However, I always stand away from Atrimax like/dislike issue. Honestly speaking, it only brings members apart and never change things as wished.

I wrote the above to show my supersize of how easy things can be overlooked or misunderstood.

    Well..
