  1. What do you think the sheet means by "Free RAM in Page 0" in BASIC v Assembler? (Blue page)

Yes, I understand the BASIC cart using much of the second half of page 0 for itself.

I thought in Assembly pretty much everything in the second half of page 0 from $80 to $FF was free, but the sheet says it starts at $B0.

It is written "Assembler" not assembly.

I am not a programmer, but i know for sure that, the debugger part for MAC/65 (DDT) is using RAM from $80 to $AF.

    Quote:

"The DDT manual gives more information on this subject, but as a general guide you must avoid locations $80 through $AF (in zero page) and the memory location located within the bounds displayed by the SIZE command"

  2. Weird, just replied to a thing about Ultimon just now.

My last contact with John was that the new Ultimon was nearly finished but on the business front John had just launched a new company as well as other stuff, he said I could beta test the new one when it was done but its been a while although I'm sure it will happen. You can't fault the man for keeping business first but as far as details its purely from the website that's not been updated for a while but to be fair until john was contacted re the old Ultimon it had been a long time about anything new..

I still look forward to having a play with the new beast, sounds very interesting and I hope it can break my love of Omnimon but here's hoping..

I did try and contact him a while back but he was busy, maybe Savetz could do an interview and try and get some details of the new one and what progress there is..

    Hi Mclaneinc

Just asking. Is possible for you to contact John regarding the development status of his Ultimon II?

It was almost complete. Hope to hear good news. ;-)

  3. That's amazing, thank you!

It boots in an emulator. I'll write down a real disk and test tonight.

Any chance you can do the "Reporting.pro" one too?

The company code should be : BENSON as stated in the Sample Data Base disk.

I removed the protection, but did not thoroughly test the software package.

The unprotected "Atari Book Keeper - Reporting.ATR" disk image is attached.

  4. Did anyone ever crack the protection on these? Not coming up with much on searches....

The protection is based on Sector 365 ($016D). The Basic file "BOOT" in disk image "Atari Book Keeper - Data Entry.ATR" has the protection code (sector #140 on the disk).( line 32760 in the BOOT file).

Attached is unprotected "Atari Book Keeper - Data Entry.ATR" PRO disk image that was provided by AtariGeezer .

Please note that the Software was not tested further

  5. Aspongy Demo Hangs System when it ends...

I don't know if this is normal, and I want to verify that it isn't some kind of 1088XEL related bug, but when I run the Aspongy Demo from WUDSON in PAL mode (haven't tried with NTSC) it plays all the way through and then hangs the system in the end. The lock up freezes Pokey's scan counter, stays at a black screen, and only responds to system reset. Also pressing any key does not appear to loop the demo as suggested at the linked to site. I've tried running it with 320K and 1088K, getting the same result.

    - Michael

I ran the demo under Altirra 2.99 test 10, Windows 10

The demo doesn't run with 256K memory (Rambo)

The demo loads and run with 320K memory (and higher - 576K and 1088K)

In both PAL and NTSC modes, pressing any key temporarily, the demo switches between the loop version (red) and single demo (grey).

Both versions of the demo will crash Altirra if the demo is left running to the end.

    1- Any key pressed:

  6. 1- You need to connect the Red wire of the FTDI FT232RL USB cable (+5V) to the Atari SIO pin #10 through a 5.6k resistor (in line connection), because Atari disk drive needs +5V which will be supplied from the FTDI FT232RL USB cable.

Sorry, the resistor value can be from 100 to 300 ohms or a small diode I was thinking of the proceed line (SIO 9 pin) Duhhh ..

  7.

Please disregard all the comments and circuitry related to the switching between CTS and RTS. I was wrong about RTS being useful for handshaking. Another senior moment!

I am sure you are not wrong about use of RTS as a handshaking method.

Actually, you can also use it as 1050-to-PC (10502PC) device via ProSystem software.

This will enable you to connect the device directly to your disk drive without the need for Atari computer.

However, you will need to make the following modifications to be able to do that.

1- You need to connect the Red wire of the FTDI FT232RL USB cable (+5V) to the Atari SIO pin #10 through a 5.6k resistor (in line connection), because Atari disk drive needs +5V which will be supplied from the FTDI FT232RL USB cable.

2- You need to switch the two data lines:

    To connect to Disk drive:

Pin on cable goes to Pin on SIO

    ------------ ------------

    GND 4 or 6

    RXD 3

    TXD 5

    RTS 7

This can be accomplished by another switch in order to switch between the two configurations (SIO2PC and 10502PC).

3- Switch for CTS/RTS handshaking lines. (You have that already)

I am thinking of building this dual setup using this cable. I will use CD74HC4053E (TRIPLE 2-CHANNEL ANALOG MULTIPLEXER/DEMULTIPLEXER) inside the Atari SIO Plug, thus eliminating the need for physical switchers and the bulky box.

Hopefully, I will comeback with a successful story within 2 months (order delay) or less.

  8. So, somebody here complained that I pointed out that that ad clearly shows that women are second grade human beings in countries like Saudi Arabia and following that, without ANY notification or even asking about it the posting was removed.

OK. so someone here was "hurt" because I say women are treated second rate in countries like Saudi Arabia.

Well _ I _ am hurt by that advertisement and so is my wife. It is discriminating and sexist.

It goes against EVERYTHING I believe in, freedom, equality of sexes and human rights.

I have submitted a complaint about the post with the ad. It should be taken down.

    Level42

"that ad clearly shows that women are second grade human beings in countries like Saudi Arabia".

What made you sure about that?

Ad picture?. Ask yourself (honestly), What do you know about that country's habits and customs. Media tells you that his picture is a clear evidence of racism?

I am honored to be a Saudi. I have read your previous note and simply ignored it.

I am responding now, because you are trying to make another (LOCKED thread).

If you are interested in politics and you want to curse Saudis and thier country, you are in luck.

There are many thousands of websites that you will find interesting. Join them shout, empty your anger or whatever hot feeling you might have.

Please :Level42, keep Atariage out of that. Keep it as it was intended. Enjoy all the creation, invention and help that our respectful and gifted member provide. Share your knowledge with others.

  9. I've just released MyPicoDos 4.06 on my website. Here's the direct link to the ZIP:

    http://www.horus.com/~hias/atari/mypdos-4.06.zip

No huge changes compared to 4.05, mostly minor stuff and bugfixes that have accumulated over the years:

    • Added .CAR file loader for The!Cart and Freezer 2011 versions of MyPicoDos
    • Disable atract mode when using joystick navigation
    • Added directory and drive switching using joystick
    • Bugfix: don't disable highspeed SIO if reading a directory fails
    so long,

    Hias

    Excelent

    Thank you.

  10. do you think that could be the other war around?

only suggest this, because my single "G" keyboard is with a later 130XE 4-chip mobo

    Hi brenski

I am not 100% sure of the accuracy of my writing, Only aDawliah management can ascertain that.
I can only speculate that they ran out of the correct (newer) Arabic keyboards during the assembly of the new batch and forced to use the older keyboards of the single letter “G” (ل).
Examine the following picture of the Arabic Typewriter. It hash correct letter arrangement.
    post-37046-0-05243700-1506191036.png
This suggests that they made an error while engraving the Arabic key “ل”.
The letter “لـ” is the letter that was supposed to be engraved. This will mach with all the letters in the 2 lines of the next picture:
    post-37046-0-89445600-1506191241.png
To correct for this mistake, they made another mistake ( I think).
They took all the key “G” that had the Arabic letter “ل” and engraved the letter “لـ” on top of it, which was supposed to be reversed (see the picture of the typewriter).
If I were you, I will look at the bright side. It is highly possible that you have one of the rarest NAJM65XE that have the a later 130XE 4-chip mobo with the older Keyboard.

  11. Can anybody tell me what this says exactly?

    attachicon.gifarabic.png

I assumed it meant 'najam' (i.e. a star), but that seems to be written as نجم which does not look exactly the same. How would I spell the above with (unicode) Arabic characters? And is there a way to spell Atari or did they just use the fuji symbol?

Note that my knowledge of Arabic is very limited :)

The word نجم consists of 3 letters: ن - ج - م. They are either come at the end of the word or typed alone,

    the above letters identical to: N - J - M in English

Wen these three letters are connected they become نـ - جـ - م

the shape of the letters in Arabic changes according to its position in the word. This produces the so very rich and beautiful Arabic calligraphy/fonts. Literally, unlimited.

  12. a very simple google translate gives this

ATARI = بوابة STAR = نجمة

i think "star" is pretty close. also bear i mind there are (at least) 8 different Arabic languages.

you can also factor in how the noun "star" is applied/described

    نُجوم = as in; an all-star line-up

نَجْمة = as in; in the shape of a star

    نَجْم = as in; celebrity - superstar

    كَوْكَب = as in; planet

i'm thinking "celebrity/superstar" is the closest.

Well, here is a free Arabic lesson :)

    NAJM = نجم

Is referred to STAR. e.g. Look at this STAR in the sky. So, "Vega" is a STAR/نجم

The plural of STAR/ نجم is STARS/ نجوم

In English, a celebrity is a STAR and in Arabic it is also called نجم

I would like to clarify the actual meaning and structure of the word نجمة

نجمة is for a single female of نجم (which is for a single "male" name)

In Arabic adding the letter (Ta'a) "ة" or "ت" (T in English) to the end of so many names or verbs or adjectives, will change the words from a male to female . Example: (Human/ انسان to Human/ انسانة)

    Thus:

نجم is a single "male" Star

نجمة is a single "female" Star

نجمان are for two Stars (male)

نجمتان are for two Stars (female)

نجوم are the plural of نجم ) male

نجمات are the plural of نجمة) female

And there are a lot more About نجم :D

  13. Password protection and hiding it in memory is not difficult with encryption and compression routines. Even make it difficult to find with a memory monitor program. I am very sure I can come up with something that can keep a pirate busy for awhile. I considered registration and activation codes or do something that requires them to have the manual with them at one point. But it wont be too long before someone posts the answers up on Atariage.

What you program is yours. You have the right to protect it form unauthorized people in any way you feel suitable.

    BUT

I believe that you have gone too far by accusing Atariage community members of being traitors and thieves.

Why do you have that tendency to intimidate peoples? Stop it please.

  14. One issue and one question...

    Running v2.90 Release under Windows 7, 64-Bit.

If I leave Warp Speed on long enough via enabling in the menu or toggle back and forth using the <F1> key (I think usually after holding it down for some time), Warp Speed will not turn off. It shows as unchecked in the menu but everything is still flying on screen.

    .

    .

    Thanks,

    MF

    Same here Win10 x64 and winXP 32.

  15. Thanks @Madi for your input. I was actually after the cartridge dump in the website made by Jindroush. From a subsequent posting of yours, it seems he never did that. I am not frankly interested in images of cartridges.

I do not live in Egypt nor am I an Egyptian, but I have asked a couple of friends who are to start a search for the cartridges, which is not easy either since none of us is aware of a shop or a redistribution agent who might be selling those in Egypt. So if you are Egyptian, or know someone who is, please tell me where to find these, and I will ask my friends in Egypt to give it a shot.

My Atari Najm 65 XE is the rare type: the one with only one letter ل on the key, and I know it does not function. However, once I am back to Jordan, my home country, I will have to bring it back with me to the US and see which ICs are dead and try to buy them off eBay and do some desoldering-soldering to get it back to functional. Also, I am positive I at least had one diskette from aDawliah that no one else has posted. It was a biology lesson in Arabic. If I am able to recover it (and by the way I did have to purchase an Atari 130XE, an XF551, and a SIO2SD which I do not regret), then I will surely share it as an ATR file (what is left from all this investment is the actual recovery of the diskette itself!).

  16.

I don't think the actual cart dumps are there, though - just the info about size, bankswitching scheme, screenshots, etc. At least, I have never found links to download roms of any of those. :?

    You are right DrVenkman
Jindroush's Atari Cartridge Dumping Project gave more attention to detailed information on Cartridges such as packaging, label variations, photo, boards/hardware, cartridge headers/memory arrangements, etc. and not the software dump of the Cartridges
    madi

  17. Hello. I know this thread is more than 10 years old, but would love to know if you have access to Jindroush's dumps somewhere. I am particularly looking for the Arabic software (if he has any) and the Atari GAMES compilation.

    Any directions are highly appreciated!

An archive of Jindroush site is at Atarimax website.

There is a nice article made by @dhor at Atarionline.pl where he had some Arabic Atari software to show: HERE.

It depends on where you live. If you live in Egypt, you may have the best (although minute) chance to get some of the rear ones.

I stopped by at ADawliah store in Jeddah in APR 2016 to ask for the faith of Atari Najm. As expected they had no clue of what ATARI NAJM meant at all.

Good luck in your venue of searching. If you get some interesting findings, please post them here at Atari age.

  18. Bringing back thread from the dead...

I am installing my SIO2PC FTDI board internally (600XL) and would like to add external LED's to the upper case on the right side. The board has on-board LED's already and although it seems like it would be a simple procedure, I'm at a loss. I googled and nothing came up except this thread. Any assistance would be great!

This is the board I have:

    http://www.microcenter.com/product/432350/FTDI_Adapter_USB_Controller

It is an offical FTDI chip because I do not need a diode and it works flawlessly.

    Caution:

I do not have that Basic Breakout Board (FTDI FT232RL) type. I highly recommend that you test polarity (+/_) by a multi mater before going any further.

There are several ways you can add an external Led(s) to your board.

I will try to describe two of them only:

One LED only (red or green , etc.)

You need two wires. The first one should be connected to Atari GND pin (SIO4) or (the GND of the breakout board) to the short leg of the LED ( - ) via a 100-220 ohm resistor.
i.e. GND point --> Resistor --> short pin of the LED.
The other wire should be cumming from CTS pin on the board (Command pin #7 on Atari) to the long pin (+) of the LED.
i.e. CTS --> Long pin of the LED
The led will pulses whenever command is set.
Tow LED (red and blue as an example)
    see the Picture.
    post-37046-0-45350600-1505229493_thumb.png
Note: the negative point should be taken from the other side of the resistors (cut trace side) that are labeled (102 )
Also, use 2.5mm LED or smaller for best results.
