Finished OoT for the first time (on 3DS) recently... terrific game. Time to wrap up Kirby Triple Deluxe and then dive into Shovel Knight! 3DS, one of my favorite systems of all time.

Are there any good podcasts that focus on or at least heavily cover 2nd-gen gaming? I'm going to give The Atari 2600 Game by Game podcast a go—any others I should be aware of?

Awaiting a UAV-modded system to give a whirl with my RetroTINK-2X Pro after I finish grading my students' finals! And once I finish selling off the remainder of my library I'll never touch again I can finally splurge on some AA homebrews! Should be a pretty alright holiday. ?

Had a wonderful xmas with my gf and cat. Couldn't see my folks this year but we had a warm, quiet day together. Can't wait to try out my Switch Pro controller!

I have an AV-modded 2600 Jr. and a RetroTink 2X-Pro on the way! ?

I have a RetroTink-2X Pro as well. It provides very nice output but it's essentially just a 2X scaler. Many games work and look great but there are some oddities. Some Atari titles do not produce a "clean" or very steady 240 scanline output signal so some carts do not work properly when displayed though the RetroTink, as I discovered just today. For instance, I found that both Atari's Battlezone and Activision's Starmaster do not work with my TV through the RetroTink - I get a "Resolution Not Supported" message from my 2013 Samsung LED. Different sets might give different results, of course.

Sure. My Genesis looks very good through it, as does my 7800 and 5200. Of course, I haven't tested all my my 7800 or 5200 games, nor have I tried more than a dozen or 2600 games. Most of the 2600 games look great but some are trouble. I've emailed the developer tonight to see if he could do some testing with 2600 games to see about fixing sync/scanline issues in a future firmware update. Hopefully he'll decide to try.

I'm usually not the type to fall in love w/ subscription services, but Game Pass Ultimate has won me over. Nice to play Xbox w/ my brother online every other weekend. Anyone else?

Just beat Bowser in Super Mario Odyssey. SMO has entered my personal top 10 ever, easily. Absolutely brilliant platformer, and this post-game content could keep me occupied for a couple of months. Wow!
Time to shift gears to an RPG for a change of pace, though: Ys VIII.

My UAV-modded 2600 arrived. S-video into my RetroTINK 2x-Pro is breathtaking. ? So, SO happy with this upgrade! Gonna be a fun, beautiful holiday of Atari.

One thing I love about my 2600 is the relative simplicity of the games: they lend themselves to short work breaks rather than demand 2-hour game sessions, as many modern RPGs tend to (which I do love, but they take me 8-10 months to finish—looking at you, Skyrim).

That's one of the things I love about Retro in general. Lots of quick fun games. I just haven't been able to find time to get into the more involving games. Modern or even retro... Even the older RPGs I loved, I haven't been able to find the time to dig in to... That said, I did just get Nox Archaist for the Apple II, so I will have to try to find some time... But as great as I am sure it is, it wouldn't surprise me to if I end up playing some space invaders clones in short bursts more...

Only ten days until Christmas—amazing how this month has flown by. Happy holidays to you and yours!

Quick question: is a bog-standard AV- or S-video-modded 2600 + the RetroTink 2x Pro the best plug-n-play solution for 2600 on my 4k TV? https://www.retrotink.com/product-page/retrotink-2x-pro

That was my original plan until I saw the price for the OSSC and realized the price of an RGB mod kit + the labor cost of paying someone here to do it for me... The RetroTink 2x Pro seems like a budget option even if I'm taking a hit with the quality compared to the OSSC. Thanks to you too though. I suppose what you proposed literally is the best option, I just don't have the money or the know-how (I'm guessing having someone on these forums do it would run me about $150).

RetroTINK 5x-Pro: overkill for a UAV-modded 2600? https://www.retrotink.com/product-page/5x-pro

In a world that thinks Nintendo invented videogames in 1985, I'm afraid folks like you and I will have to wait a while for the right person to take a chance on this before we learn how well this is suited to classic American consoles.
Past Retrotink products though have worked well for the most part with consoles like the Atari 2600, so I'm optimistic that the Retrotink 5X will be well suited for systems like the Atari 2600/5200/7800, Intellivision, etc.

So overwhelmed by work right now. Looking forward to some Golf With Your Friends on my Xbox and Chopper Command on my 2600 this weekend.

Winter storm coming into the Northeast! Better get an extra round of Chopper Command in tonight in case the power goes...

@Atarian7 Only about half a foot, bu the last round of storms we had in the summer knocked the power out twice in two weeks since so many trees are near power lines. Some snow would make everything look way prettier, which I guess I'll take at this point in 2020 over a night of not being able to play Atari, lol.
-
@Atarian7 Oh no! I'd be pretty annoyed if there wasn't any discernible reason for it.

Christopher Tolkien reading the end of his father's masterpiece, Return of the King. Obvious spoilers.

-20ºF last night walking back from the pub. Awful.

2600 emulation while abroad is a necessity, but it just isn't the same as playing on my CRT at home.

3DS screen protectors – yay or nay?

Absolutely gorgeous day in Maine! Might take a walk later with my girlfriend to take advantage of the weather.
