  1. I have gone through ~40 games or so in these past few weeks whilst going on an Atari binge. My three personal favorites are Keystone Kapers, Chopper Command, and Berzerk.
  2. Thanks for the help! Time to start searching for a Model 2 in like-new/near-mint condition. May be a tough find but I'm preparing for the hunt!
  3. Dang, looks like I have to pick one up now. What are the major differences between the Model 1 and 2? Both look comfortable to hold for my monster hands (another reason why I'm a fan of the Game Gear). Should I know anything about mods/replacements that should be done, like capacitor replacements (the GG is notorious for crapping out unless you replace them)? And yes, I am perfectly content with the Game Gear screen.
  4. Can't edit my post, but I found the links for the Homebrew community in a stickied thread, so scratch that question (5).
  5. Howdy, I picked up a 2600 from this site and I have been loving it to death. I'm interested in collecting for all of the consoles that are a bit more obscure compared to Nintendo/Sega systems (though I'm a huge fan of the Game Gear and Genesis). I have a few questions about the CollecoVision. 1. What would be a fair price to pay for a ColecoVision in near-mint condition? I would most likely throw up a thread in the Wanted marketplace forum rather than scouring eBay to start out. 2. What should I be looking for when picking up a ColecoVision? Any seller(s) I should be aware of in particular, either here or on eBay? 3. Are there any mods that I should be aware of? I know that it is popular to throw a composite mod on Atari consoles, and replace the capacitors/screen on Game Gears, so I'm wondering if many ColecoVision users recommend doing something similar, or whether most just stick with the vanilla console. 4. Are there overlays that I should be looking out for when picking up games for the ColecoVison? Or are those not really necessary, and more trouble to find than they're worth? 5. Is there an active homebrew community for the ColecoVision? 6. Will the ColecoVision display properly on a flat screen Sony Trinitron, out of curiosity? Or will it work better on a convex CRT? 7. How reliable/compatible is the 2600 converter for the ColecoVision? Does it have 100% compatibility with Atari 2600 games? If it displays them well, I might just go with that rather than having two systems on my desk. That's all I can think of for now, thank you.
  6. I am loving my Game Gear and I think I'll definitely go in the direction of collecting for handhelds, because my space is pretty limited. I'm curious as well of whether I should pick up a Lynx or not. If you were going to sell someone on an Atari Lynx, what would you say?
  7. Keystone Kapers, definitely.
  8. Can I use an acetone-based nail polish remover to clean the insides of the paddle controller that jitters? Or should I stick with rubbing alcohol (or neither?) What part should I be focused on cleaning? Thank you!
  9. The round intro music is some of the catchiest I have ever heard.
  10. I purchased a Game Gear and some games from JJ -- fast shipping and great packaging. Would definitely recommend. Here are some pictures of the package I received: http://imgur.com/a/No1XD

Doing business with cvga was a pleasure. Fast shipping and great packaging. Would definitely recommend. Here are some pictures of the box of Atari 2600 cartridges that he sent me: http://imgur.com/a/87sbz
  12. I find it interesting how the picture displayed on the TV screen varies from cart to cart. Wouldn't have thought of that with my first console being a PS3.

I mean the dimensions and situating of the picture, not the actual graphics.

Do you actually mean from game to game? That's simply due to different resolutions being used.

Yep! Some games take up 90% of the screen as a square, others seem to mimic convex displays and seem to be more rectangular and favor the right side of my TV.

  13. When I went to college, I had way less time to play the kinds of complex games that sucked up a lot of my youth. I started taking an interest in retro video games, and started seeking out some systems I knew growing up -- the N64, PS2, and GameCube. Little did I know my retro travels would take me alllllll the way back to the 2600. Initially, I was skeptical. Why the hell would anyone play these old things in this day and age? Boy, did I feel stupid after discovering AtariAge. Never before have I seen such a collection of people that are so devoted to and excited to discuss a hobby like Atari. There are plenty of subforums for a multitude of different topics surrounding Atari, retro gaming, and other subjects, there's a great Marketplace forum that I have had nothing but good experiences with, and the website itself is one of the cleanest and best I have ever used in any context. I think I was hooked on Atari when users started messaging me after I posted a thread about potentially picking up a system by offering me systems for great prices! I was blown away! I ended up with a mint condition Atari 2600 Jr. that I could not be happier with. When I saw someone drop off a huge Sony Trinitron (with a very small scratch in the screen, but whatever) in a rescue box right in front of me, I knew it was essentially a sign from God. I was destined to play retro games. (Okay that was kind of dumb but seriously, I was ecstatic) Since then I have amassed quite a collection of commercial titles, and plan on going all-out and picking up nearly every homebrew and hack that the AtariAge store has to offer because I am so in love with the system. I seriously didn't think that would happen, but here I am, putting aside at least $200 from my summer job towards nothing but 2600 cartridges. Every one of my threads has gotten lots of helpful and civil responses, for which I am very grateful. Not to mention this place has a lot of history... half of my questions I just put through Google with "atariage" added on the end of my question and bam, 15-20 useful threads. You guys are awesome and have been for a long time... stay that way. Game on!
  14. Only partway through so far but I really love how much detail you're going into when describing each piece! Great stuff!
  15. Nope, just a vanilla 2600 Jr. I love it! Interesting thing that I noticed... I tried my 2600 on another CRT, a Toshiba that is not a flat screen, and the picture seemed a tiny bit cut off on the far right edge. In fact, I realized that both of the CRTs I have tried my 2600 on have the picture slightly more to the right than the left. I wonder why this is.\ EDIT: Just tried an Atlantis cart on the TV I posted up top... it definitely looks more square and takes up a lot more of the screen.
  16. Thank you for the help! I'm not tech savvy at all.
  17. Sorry for the triple post. Are there any TV settings I should be aware of for potentially straightening out/improving the picture? Or is that not possible with my Trinitron and the 2600? Thank you!
  18. Do Atari users here generally use other models of CRTs, out of curiosity? Would there be any reason to check out different models of CRT for better image quality, or is this the best that I can expect? Thank you! More out of curiosity than seriously considering a different model of TV.
  19. Ah excellent, thank you for the quick response. Not an issue per se, but I wanted to be sure I knew why it was happening.
  20. Hello, Just fired up my Atari 2600 Jr. for the first time on my Sony Trinitron! Quick question -- while playing River Raid, on the upper left side of the game display, it seems slightly slanted downwards. Why is this? Thanks! Here are some pictures: http://imgur.com/a/oSmB6
  21. A lone 2600 Jr., all I need. ^^ EDIT: Until I eventually pick up a Lynx, that is.
