New NES console announced by Analogue Interactive
Bixler replied to Bixler's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I wonder if a company will ever do what Analogue Interactive is doing for CMVS and NES, but for the Atari consoles like the 2600/5200/7800. -
A few questions --- 1. I will be picking up a TV to use with my Atari 2600 Jr. in the near future, and it will most likely be an old CRT. Would a CRT work with the ColecoVision flashback? Or should I use an HDTV for it instead? 2. Why are people who already own the real deal interested in the Flashback console? I know I want it because I don't have the real thing and will not have the space or money for one for a while, and want to get a taste of what all the fuss is about without emulating it on my laptop. 3. Why does everyone want an SD card slot? Similar reasons to the Harmony Cart (for dumping all the games on to and being able to play them from the system itself)?

Definitely going to pick one up. Looks very cool!

http://imgur.com/a/t18Mz The above is an album of bennybingo's package that he sent me. He was wonderful to do business with. He answered messages on AA quickly and dealt with all of my novice questions about everything from different Atari models to how to even do a PayPal transaction. He was very friendly, and shipping was very prompt. His packaging is absolutely superb; everything looks intact (I won't be opening them for a few weeks due to school, but I'm absolutely sure they are in 100% perfect condition). I received many photos before my purchase to be sure I knew what I was getting. Everything was so transparent... I loved it. All in all, he is great to do business with on AA, and I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a good retro gaming transaction. Thumbs way, WAY up! My first Marketplace experience on AA, and I am an extremely pleased customer that would do business with him again in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the video link; I have always enjoyed Ashens's reviews. It was pretty informative.

Ah, that's too bad. I didn't really research into it much when it came out, but from what I garnered it looked pretty neat. What made it so horrible? EDIT: Ah, saw your edit. Yep, that sucks. I have always been in awe of those who can afford large Neo Geo collections. My love for Metal Slug prompted me to check out prices a few years ago... never going to happen.

I remember there was a little hubbub when this was announced and subsequently released, but after the first Mega Pack (or whatever it was called) released last February, it seems like anything related to Neo Geo X kind of... died off. I heard that Tommo was having some legal disputes with SNK Playmore; did those ever get resolved? Or is the Neo Geo X, for all intents and purposes, dead and likely to remain that way forever? Seems like a golden opportunity that unfortunately fell flat. What happened?

I suppose the main reason I enjoy much of his commentary is because, as someone posted earlier, there's an intelligent video game history buff under that foul-mouthed, comedic, ridiculous exterior.

Just a general question -- who decides what homebrews get made into cartridges to sell on the AtariAge store? How does the decision process work? I'm sure there are dozens of excellent homebrews that are not on the store that I will need a Harmony Cart for (definitely planning on picking one up now).

Wow, I have a lot to consider. Thanks for all of the suggestions! Now the only problem is money, but that will come with time. Probably going to start off with Halo 2600, Pac-Man 4K, Lady Bug, Fall Down, Epic Adventure, Space Rocks, Juno First, and Seaweed Assult and go from there. God knows those games will last me months anyhow. EDIT: Oh, and of course Flappy Bird when it is released.
-
Thanks for the link, that is very helpful. Jesus, I'll probably end up buying 80% of the homebrews/hacks in the store...
-
Oh thanks, I didn't even think about that. Once I get a hold of a little more cash I will begin to browse. Definitely going to pick up Seaweed Assault and Halo 2600.

I just ordered a pristine Atari 2600 Jr. from bennybingo with an assortment of classic "must-have" games. I cannot wait for summer (lack of time right now) to get groovin' with this thing. One of the reasons I became interested in Atari consoles in the first place was the incredible assortment of homebrew titles, and the thriving homebrew community surrounding the 2600 and 7800 consoles today that doesn't look like it will stop any time soon. My question is this: Are there any absolute "must-have" homebrew Atari 2600 titles in particular that you would recommend to just about anyone? Would you recommend picking up the Harmony Cart? Thank you very much. Just interested in some opinions. EDIT: Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I don't want to go crappin' this place up when I should be posting somewhere else, but it seemed to fit here.

Just ordered an Atari 2600 Jr. from bennybingo with some games! Very excited to dive into this hobby!

I'm in the same boat. I remember discovering AVGN a few years ago and thinking he was ludicrous and immature, but I started watching a few of his videos a month or two ago and really enjoyed them. Ghosts 'N Goblins was hilarious. Can't wait for the upcoming movie! I was sold on Classic Game Room when I saw his Atari 2600 vs. PS2 review.

The ColecoVision Revolution - Evolution!
Bixler replied to SiLic0ne t0aD's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
This sounds like a really cool idea, I wish you the best of luck! I was going to pick up a ColecoVision as my first retro gaming console before deciding on an Atari 2600 Jr. to get things going. I'm sure I will pick up a ColecoVision eventually (just wish the homebrews were more readily available like 2600/7800 homebrews on AtariAge), but in the meantime, I hope this all goes as planned! Sounds like a very ambitious project, as previously mentioned. Sounds really awesome though. -
Damn, that looks gorgeous. That's really something special.

If I'm just interested in Atari games, any reason to get 2600 over 7800?

Thanks for the input everyone! About to pick up an Atari 2600 and some games! -
If I'm just interested in Atari games, any reason to get 2600 over 7800?
Bixler replied to Bixler's topic in Atari 2600
Thanks for the help! I'm looking at the marketplace and Best Electronics right now, trying to decide. Will probably go with the marketplace, seeing as everything there looks much cheaper, even if the quality is not as pristine as Best Electronics. -

Thanks for the replies! I think I will pick up an Atari 2600. Is there a specific model that you folks would recommend? I see that Best Electronics has some basically new systems, though the prices seem relatively steep -- maybe it would be better to check out the marketplace forum here? Is the composite mod that Best Electronics does worth the extra cost? Thanks! EDIT: Haha just showed my girlfriend this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucRYLobga0g and now she really wants an Atari 2600 too! I'm in love! -
I'm interested in retro gaming, and I would like to play Atari games. However, I'm at a loss as to whether I should get a 2600 or a 7800. I'm aware that the 7800 is backwards compatible with nearly all 2600 games. In light of this, is there any discernible reason to pick up a 2600 over a 7800? I was born in the early 1990s, so there will be absolutely zero nostalgia factor regardless of which system I choose. I vastly prefer the wood grain look of the 2600 over the 7800, but outside of that and the 2600's cheaper price tag, I cannot really figure out which I should be looking more into. Both seem to have awesome homebrew communities, and both seem to have wealthy amounts of support in today's age, which is wonderful. What are your opinions, Atari veterans? Thank you for your time.

Hello, I posted a topic about a week ago about the Atari 7800, because I was (and most likely still am) planning on getting one. However, I have started to become very fascinated in this older era of video games (picked up a Genesis Model 2 as an impulse buy a couple days ago dirt cheap with a CRT TV and I am having the time of my life in-between study sessions) and I have begun doing quite a bit of research. Although I am hope to pick up a 7800 in the future, due to financial constraint I cannot afford the $125 for one from Best Electronics for quite some time (if ever; I only have so much I can really spend on this hobby while in college). I see that wood grain 2600s are definitely cheaper, which for me is a huge and in many ways defining factor of what I will end up purchasing. If I purchased a used 2600 instead of the $125 7800 from Best Electonics, would I be missing out on much? Thank you! Sorry if this question sounds dumb.

Is there a homebrew scene like the one for the 2600? Does the ColecoVision have a following comparable to that of the 2600? I posted a similar topic in the 2600 forum asking about the 2600 vs. 7800, but I felt that this half of my question would be better for this forum. Thank you! EDIT: If mods feel that my question is completely redundant and a waste of space, feel free to delete it.

Oh, I'm sorry -- maybe I misread the post. Thank you for the clarification! The more I browse this forum in my (unfortunately, extremely limited) spare time, the more I cannot wait to pick up the system from Best Electronics and a CRT from my local Goodwill or thrift store.
