The Wii U is a wonderful, underappreciated system hampered by terrible marketing. I love using mine to play my extensive Wii library and a smattering of Wii U games.

I'd like to finally purchase some 2600 homebrew carts from the AtariAge store to support this website and the 2600 community. What are some of your favorite(s), and why? I'm already drooling over Space Rocks, Halo 2600, and Medieval Mayhem. 😍😎
P.S. Are there any homebrew carts that won't display properly, for whatever reason, on an AV composite-modded 2600? Gonna be purchasing one very soon to use with my HDTV, since I don't have a CRT nor do I have a cheap means of getting one for my small apartment.

I'll be buying a composite-modded console soon since all I have available to use for games is my HDTV, and I'd like to take advantage of the Harmony cart I used to love using a few years ago. Would also like to finally buy some homebrews, and it seems like a composite-modded system is my best way of being able to use all of this.

41 minutes ago, shear_xear said:Hi. I could sell you a modded Atari Jr. for $55 plus shipping via PayPal friends and family. I haven’t been selling them lately (I used to sell them on eBay for around $60), but can easily do one for you. The Junior might not have the ascetic appeal of the older models, but it’s video output is far superior. I’m in Illinois. Let me know.
Wonderful! I would be very happy with this. I will send you a PM later this afternoon after work.

20 minutes ago, R.Cade said:Wow, their used to be someone on eBay selling them all the time for about $50-60. Since this was less than I was willing to do the work for, I never bothered with it.
Now that they seem to be $100+, I may consider doing it again.
There are a couple of eBay auctions where you send it to them and they mod and send back. One is an HDMI mod for $75. Not sure of the quality/reliability, but it is one option. I am sure there are some other guys here that do it also. I only do custom-tuned composite mods, not the Y/C or HDMI board installs.
Holy cow, the prices they are going for on eBay are a bit too steep for my budget. I didn't realize that I'd likely be spending over $100. I may have to reconsider this entire thing haha. Thank you for the info.

I'm afraid I'm not adept with this sort of thing and would prefer to buy a clean, pre-modded 2600 to use with my Harmony cart. Thanks for the link though!

Hey all. Since all I have in my apartment is a 4k flat screen TV, I guess I need to purchase a composite-modded Atari 2600 if I want to get back into my 2600 with my Harmony cart.
Thus, I'm interested in purchasing an Atari 2600 system that has been modded for composite output that will work beautifully on a modern TV. I'm not sure what the pricing for such an item would be; I'll trust that whoever has a system ready to go will offer it for a fair price here. Thanks!

If I were to purchase an AV-modded 2600 from the marketplace here, would there be any issues with colors, ability to play games, or lag with my 4k TV? Sorry if that's an unbelievably dumb question; I'd happily just grab a cheap CRT if any were near me and drop it in the corner of my apartment's living room. But all I have is my modern flatscreen.

I don't have a CRT TV anymore, and the nearest one on craigslist is quite a ways away. I do have a 4k 40" Samsung I use with my Xbox One, Wii U, and Blu-ray player, however. I'd like to get back into my 2600 with my Harmony cart, but obviously it won't connect to HDMI. Is my best bet to get an AV-modded 2600 and plug it in through the AV ports? Or is there a better alternative.
Or at this point, should I just use Stella on my Macbook Pro and purchase a controller adapter?
Thanks!

I just discovered that this console is a thing. I have a Harmony Encore loaded up with the entire 2600 library on it and would love to play 2600 games again on my HDTV. Will my Harmony Encore cart be compatible with the Retron 77?
Thanks.

Is Metroid Samus Returns still available?

Dang. I was looking forward to a way to play my Harmony Cart with HDMI.

My PS2 for whatever reason.

One of my favorite games, no question. Gets about as much playtime as River Raid (which is saying a lot).

[Homebrews galore]
Holy cow. What are some of your favorites? Any you regret getting?

Keep your 2600 hardware, buy a Harmony cart and sell off individual carts
This is the correct answer.

Grats on the impending sale! Looks like a beauty.

Hi Bix,
Sounds good to know that you want one. Do you have a particular brand that you have in mind if you disregard price?
Anthony...
I'm afraid I have no brand in particular – just something cheap that works well.
I may end up going to Goodwill and seeing what they have lol. -

I know that I posted in another thread about picking up an Xbox One Scorpio eventually (I meant the slim but whatevs), but I generally agree with this thread.
I dunno how people feel about the Wii but that's the most recent home console that I've had a total blast with. My girlfriend and I pull it out regularly to play multiplayer games together. So many terrific titles, and the game collecting community has helped bring many sleeper hits to the general light (much to the chagrin of my wallet...)
Meanwhile all I've heard about this current generation is disappointments and marketing disasters and buggy train wrecks. The only games that look even remotely appealing to me on the Xbox One are Rare Replay, Master Chief Collection, Gears of War Ultimate, Sunset Overdrive, and The Witcher III. Not too many to choose from, and we're three years into this generation.
Something about games in this gen when compared to the last – heck, the PS3 had lots of terrific titles, as did the PS2 and Xbox and GameCube – seems really... off. Like games are all flash and little substance. A generalization, but perhaps that's what has come from the enormous amount of marketing behind games that have such little depth (Battlefront, No Man's Sky, Watch_Dogs, The Division... to name only a few). Game collectors fear for collecting for the Xbox One and PS4 in an increasingly digital age, but honestly... how many of the games coming out now are you going to want to play 10-15 years from now? -
Man, really wish I had the spare cash for this – been interested in the 7800 lately. GLWS!

Are there any relatively cheap flat-screen monitors that you folks would recommend to use with composite and/or s-video? I love using my CMVS with my HDTV even though the picture isn't as clean as it could be, and I'd like to get something a bit smaller and more portable.

On a light sixer with the RGB SCART mod through an HDMI upscaler to a 46" LCD TV with 500XJ Epyx joysticks and sometimes through emulation on Stella.
Mind posting some pics of your setup while running a game? Curious to see what this looks like.
