  1. Is there any conceivabl reason to have an HDMI modded 2600 to play on my HDTV? Or should I just go with an AV modded system? A CRT won't be an option in my new apartment I'm afraid.

sometimes you just gotta do what you have the ability for- i have an AV-modded 2600 in our bedroom on a $99 el cheapo flat panel. :) I think you'd be good for retro goodness either AV or HDMI.

If you don't mind cheap emulator stuff, get a Retron 77 with native HDMI.

Funny, before I read any comments, I was thinking get a RetroN 77 and A/V modded 2600!

Dang. I was looking forward to a way to play my Harmony Cart with HDMI.
  4. Was just having some dried mango slices while playing Berserk on my 2600. What do you snack on while playing?

    1. Atarian7

      Atarian7

Water or soda. Games without pauses are not conducive to snacking.

Back when I could eat anything and not gain weight? Coca-Cola, Fritos and Nestle Crunch. Now? Water. Maybe an apple if I feeling like running the extra distance later on to make up for it.

  5. So happy I've rekindled my love for Dungeons & Dragons. 5e is a total blast!

@JDTAY Angband is a lot of fun, but my favorite pick-up-and-play roguelike would have to be Brogue.

  6. Nearly home, which means nearly back with my 2600 <3

Vacations and short get-aways are fun, but I am always happiest when home.

  7. Anyone have any favorite beers/ciders you can only really get in England, or that are not readily available in the US? Would love to get some recs. I've been loving Northern Monk, Abbot Ale, and Old Thumper.

If you have a Total Wine near where you live (large chain liquor store), you can order anything, from any country that isn't currently in a war-ravaged state.

Forgot to also include North Korea, Cuba, and countries with mandatory shariah law as no-gos for Total Wine.

  8. 2600 emulation while abroad is a necessity, but it just isn't the same as playing on my CRT at home. :(

I think you're supposed to play the retro system of choice in your host country. ZX Spectrum in UK, NES in Japan, BlackBerry in Canada.

HA! It does work like a charm but I guess I just miss my big 'ol fat Sony CRT at home, and my comfy chair, my preferred beer, my controllers, and my girlfriend competing with me for high scores. :)

One of my favorite games, no question. Gets about as much playtime as River Raid (which is saying a lot).
  10. In my research for new CD players I'm realizing that cassettes are growing in popularity...?! I'm guessing nostalgia, nothing more nothing less.

My friend and I jam out to cassettes on out boat which has an aux in for iPod but is also a cassette deck! Rock on

I never really bought music cassettes. I bought vinyl records right up until about 1987 then went to CD's.

I only use cassettes for classic computers that supported/required them. Just bought a NOS pack of TRS-80 C-10 tapes this weekend, in fact.

  12. Holy cow. What are some of your favorites? Any you regret getting?
  13. Are there any 2600 homebrews that don't work properly with an AV-modded 2600?

I've never had any problems with homebrews...But regular Galaxian doesn't work for me on 2600...It works fine on a 7800 however...

  14. ON HOLD?! Man I just got the funds to go for this, which is why I logged on... Grats on the impending sale! Looks like a beauty.
  15. Thankfully it's cooler this evening than yesterday. I can't stand boiling hot nights.

  16. As long as it's better than the Neo-Geo X, I'm in
  17. Been following a bit of this PS4 Pro vs. Xbox One Scorpio chatter today... didn't realize people cared so much about system specs. What about the damn games?!

    1. Skippy B. Coyote

      Skippy B. Coyote

Word my brother. And besides, how many people actually own HDR enabled 4K televisions!? They both seem to be systems marketed solely to the uber wealthy and spoiled kids with rich parents. These are not systems for the average gamer.

    2. masschamber

      masschamber

the biggest number I care about is that 310 watts, hikes that is some crazy power consumption. What is the max rating on the psu, 350? 400?

frankly the thing that was so great about the ps4 was the modest size and power consumption. If the ps4pro is that bad how crazy is the xbone deluxe going to be

I'll stick with my original Xbox One, thanks. No plans to upgrade to a 4K TV anytime soon.

  18. What is the appeal of collecting Funko POP? I can see collecting books or games or films because you can actually use them and engage with them, but collecting figurines to sit on a shelf...? Please enlighten me.

    1. onmode-ky

      onmode-ky

If you're asking about collecting figures in general (i.e., rather than Funko Pop! specifically), I collect them for characters and character designs I like. Kind of like buying a poster of a favorite starship, or a miniature of a memorable police box.

  19. I'm afraid I have no brand in particular – just something cheap that works well. I may end up going to Goodwill and seeing what they have lol.
  20. I know that I posted in another thread about picking up an Xbox One Scorpio eventually (I meant the slim but whatevs), but I generally agree with this thread. I dunno how people feel about the Wii but that's the most recent home console that I've had a total blast with. My girlfriend and I pull it out regularly to play multiplayer games together. So many terrific titles, and the game collecting community has helped bring many sleeper hits to the general light (much to the chagrin of my wallet...) Meanwhile all I've heard about this current generation is disappointments and marketing disasters and buggy train wrecks. The only games that look even remotely appealing to me on the Xbox One are Rare Replay, Master Chief Collection, Gears of War Ultimate, Sunset Overdrive, and The Witcher III. Not too many to choose from, and we're three years into this generation. Something about games in this gen when compared to the last – heck, the PS3 had lots of terrific titles, as did the PS2 and Xbox and GameCube – seems really... off. Like games are all flash and little substance. A generalization, but perhaps that's what has come from the enormous amount of marketing behind games that have such little depth (Battlefront, No Man's Sky, Watch_Dogs, The Division... to name only a few). Game collectors fear for collecting for the Xbox One and PS4 in an increasingly digital age, but honestly... how many of the games coming out now are you going to want to play 10-15 years from now?
  21. Man, really wish I had the spare cash for this – been interested in the 7800 lately. GLWS!
  22. Are there any relatively cheap flat-screen monitors that you folks would recommend to use with composite and/or s-video? I love using my CMVS with my HDTV even though the picture isn't as clean as it could be, and I'd like to get something a bit smaller and more portable.
