      I've heard them called shmups (shoot 'em ups), shooters, STGs, curtain fire games, bullet hells -- not sure if there's a difference among any of them.

      @DeputyMoniker: Knights of the Old Republic, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Bastion, Faster Than Light, Battle for Wesnoth, Infinity Blade series (well, the majority like it), Asphalt 8, Rayman Fiesta Run, Deus Ex, N.O.V.A. series, Grand Theft Auto series, Monument Valley, The Room series, Final Fantasy series, Dragon Quest VIII, Machinarium, Limbo, and I'm personally a fan of some of the Angry Birds games... some ports, some original to mobile, but...
