  1. That's some really helpful advice, thank you. My consoles that I want to hold onto (PS2, original Xbox, CMVS) will remain with my folks until they move out of their current house in a few years. I'm studying abroad for a year before (hopefully) pursuing a PhD, and once I've settled down for a number of years in a program I'll slowly ship my consoles to my residence, and also hopefully find a cheap CRT to hook them up to.

The only console I'm sure I'll get rid of is the Dreamcast, since my girlfriend found her old one recently. :D I'll see if I can get any MVS or Xbox games for it, most likely...

  2. Be careful, you might become addicted to the reliability and convenience and number of systems you can pack in your laptop.

I'm afraid of that happening haha. I was going to go with OpenEmu on my Macbook Pro and run NES, SNES, and see if I can find a way to play Neo-Geo games (MAME seems to have some issues with OpenEmu).

I'm in the process of getting rid of (most) of my systems anyway in favor of focusing on my 3DS, since I hardly have time for games anymore anyway.

  3. Heck, Xbox announced they're already working on the replacement for the Scorpio, so to be honest, the Scorpio and PS4 Neo's future are kinda in question as well.

WTF?! My girlfriend and I were considering picking up an Xbox One Scorpio when it came out... they're already working on the next iteration?!

  4. Here are a few ways of determining the rough value of what you have that I have found helpful over the years:

    1. Create an Advanced Search on eBay (upper right-hand corner of the homepage), type in what you're looking to sell – say, "Atari Game Center" – and check the box that says "Sold Listings" below before submitting your search. You should get a page that looks like this: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=atari+game+center&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=&_sacat=0&LH_Sold=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=15&_stpos=94960-1021&_sargn=-1%26saslc%3D1&_salic=1&_sop=12&_dmd=1&_ipg=50&LH_Complete=1
    2. Search the AtariAge marketplace forum for what you want to sell, and see what others have sold it for within the last year or so.
    3. Check PriceCharting, which has oftentimes proved to be a helpful website for determining the rough value for video games.

Looks like its value is somewhere between a few Starbucks Venti mochas and a very, VERY rundown moped from the late 1960s or early 70s.

  5. I have a feeling like these 3ds releases are just quick, dirty, and cheap productions to appease their current user-base while the real games are being produced on the NX. Hence why obvious functionality is missing. It's just not worth their time, in their eyes.

Wouldn't surprise me. At least we have physical releases of Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, Yoshi's Woolly World, Azure Striker Gunvolt Pack, Dragon Quest VII/VIII, two new Pokémon games, Ever Oasis, and SMT IV: Apocalypse coming! Lots of life left in the 3DS concerning new releases, even if Super Mario Maker looks like a mediocre production on the handheld.

EDIT: At least, given how much time I have for games anymore, what I listed above would easily last me two years on its own, not counting my backlog.

  6. Hey Bixler,

I have both Metal Slug Anthology and SNK Classics Collection on the PS2. I'm glad you have both because they really are fantastic to have in your collection. I experienced some lag on it does to it being a port. But they don't bother me none. :)

If you like, pickup World Heroes Anthology for the PS2 as well. Another great titles to have in your collection too. :)

Thanks for posting Bix. See you soon and feel free to write if we can assist you any further! :)

    Anthony...

Thanks Anthony! Can't wait to play. Yeah, I guess the input lag is unavoidable. Oh well! Still fun.

  7. Do these people have no shame whatsoever? Can you imagine a mother or father with their child who came to look for one or two (hopefully) cheap, fun, older games to play, and they get virtually chucked out of the way by greedy resellers looking to most likely barely make a living off of this crap? Leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. I'm really glad that this kind of thing doesn't happen with comic books (from my experience, anyway).

Makes me glad that I do all of my retro game shopping on private forums, game swapping marketplaces, and eBay. Good grief.

  8. Hey guys – what are your thoughts on the SNK Classics Collection and Metal Slug Anthology for the PS2?

I played the Metal Slug Anthology many years ago and recently purchased it again on eBay, seeing as I won't have an Omega CMVS for a while yet. I heard there's some input lag (which is to be expected, I guess, for any of these arcade compilations). Any of y'all have experience with these?

    Thanks!

  10. Man, I am really going to get in trouble for this one.... Before I say anything, let me put on my running shoes.

    Ok....Here goes...

I don't like the Heavy Sixer. I think it's ugly as sin. I think the Light Sixer is a sexy little beast that's looks a million times better than the heavy model.

*runs away as fast as I can*

Junior or gtfo. Mine is gorgeous. GORGEOUS, I TELL YOU!

  11. I remember trying Pac-Man on the 2600 on my Harmony Encore. "So is this supposed to be one of the worst 2600 games ever? How bad can it be?"

    Yeesh. REAL bad. :(

Anyone else excited for the new Pac-Man game coming out soon, though?
