Do you prefer the Wii, or the Gamecube?
I personally prefer the Wii because I find myself enjoying more titles in its library, but I absolutely cannot disregard some of the absolute classics that were on the Gamecube – Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, F-Zero GX, Mario Kart Double Dash, LoZ Windwaker, and Mario Gold Toadstool Tour, just to name a few. I've begun picking up classic Gamecube games for nostalgic reasons, but my Gamecube collection will most likely never even be half of my Wii collection quantity-wise. I also enjoy the Wii's motion controls in varying degrees, and I've heard many absolutely loathe that aspect of the Wii. *shrugs*
How about you?

I'm thinking it is the aspect ratio. Also, I'm curious why it says Level-4 all the time haha!

Absolutely fantastic. I'll be picking up Mario All-Stars for the Wii.

I've been thinking of this title lately, but I won't add it until later on this year. I just want to make sure I have time to play it every day for about a half hour or so.
I picked it up for my girlfriend because she seems to absolutely fly through games at an incredibly fast rate; she's been playing ACNL for three months now, half an hour a day. She seems to love it.

Congrats Bixler! It looks great and I'm sure you'll have tons of fun with it
. I like how that particular CMVS matches the Neo Geo color scheme well. I actually like cleaning consoles and games just for the good feeling you get when you put them back on the shelf and they look twice as good
. Just one question (sorry if its kinda dumb
): What's the single black port next to the controller ports for? Is it a video port (i.e. RGB or Component) or something else. Just wondering
.Also, I just wanted to mention to you that if you pick up a 99 cent S Video cable, you can use it with your CMVS and improve the picture quality. Obviously I don't know for sure, but your CRT looks pretty nice and probably has S Video ports you could use. Hope this helps!
Cheers to great gaming and I hope you enjoy your CMVS!
Yep, I just hooked up my s-video cable, thanks for the tip! I'm afraid I'm unsure what that black port is for.
Yipe!!!!!!
Glad to see you with your new unit Bixler. It looks amazing and glad that you achieve your goal on purchasing a CMVS unit. Now its time for some serious gaming with one of the best custom units around
Any luck trying to purchase Puzzle Bobble on Ebay Bix? That's a must for your collection. You can start by getting the common MVS carts, and work yourself upwards to the more expensive versions later. Just like Justin said, the S Video cable, you can use for your CMVS and improve the picture quality. Its really cheap and widely available.
Have fun with in the wonderful world of Neo-Geo gaming Bix. Welcome aboard the enjoyment and were glad to assist you in the future if you have anymore inquires if you have in the immediate future!
Anthony...
Thanks! Yep, Puzzle Bobble is on the way! Looking to sell off a bit more of my collection – stuff I don't really have any need for anymore – so I can have some money to pick up Neo Turf Masters and some Metal Slug!

My CMVS has arrived!
I'm in love with it!The beautiful controller:

BEHOLD! THE CMVS ITSELF!

Oh man, I'm salivating. This thing is gorgeous. Definitely needs some dusting and cleaning but I'm thrilled nonetheless.

If tape gets the job done, so be it.

The guy I bought this from threw in this World Heroes cart for free. I'll get around to printing a new label and cleaning it up pretty soon.

SHE LIVES!

I'm so pumped. Can't wait to have tons of fun with this thing! Can't wait to start dusting and cleaning it too... heh.

That's a good starting point, but MVS is a slippery slope. There are so many great games... you'll probably find yourself wanting more than just that list pretty quickly. There are also a lot of lesser known late release/unreleased MVS games like Matrimelee, Mark of the Wolves, Super Dodge Ball, Twinkle Star Sprites, Ghostlop, Nightmare in the Dark, etc. etc.
One of the multicarts would be a good starting point since it would let you play many of these games on actual hardware. Can buy favorites on legit carts or games that aren't on your multicart as budget allows. And, even if an MVS flash cart is eventually released, it'll probably be much more expensive than a multicart anyway.
Hence my intense interest in making this system my primary video gaming device along with my 2600, Wii, and 3DS from here on out.
I plan on gathering up many great games over the coming years – just ordered Puzzle Bobble off of eBay, and I'll be saving up for the 161-in-1 multicart to pick up in a couple of months. I wish the multicart was completely free of issues, but I guess that's what you should expect with one of those things. I'll just be happy to have that many games readily available until I can afford to pick up some actual carts for my favorites. -
Great to hear about what people are playing!
-
Hmm... in no particular order:
- Metal Slug
- Neverwinter Nights
- Super Mario Galaxy 2
- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
- Metroid Prime Trilogy (Wii)
- SSX 3
- Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
- Bubble Bobble
- H.E.R.O.
- Quake 3 Arena

I have no faith in MVS bootlegs. They usually have sloppy desoldering to remove the original mask roms, random rewiring that may not be durable, and they typically use eproms instead of mask roms. If you're going the bootleg route, you might as well just go with multicarts so you can play a bunch of games on original hardware. If you want to collect MVS, legit carts are more reliable.
There are exceptions though. Plenty of hacks and homebrews that are only available as bootlegs. If you want some of the 'improved' releases like SvC Chaos Plus or Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, they're only available as boots.
Due to the sheer cost of many MVS carts, I'll probably go for the Multicart route for a while (since from what I've gathered a flash cart won't ever happen). Here's a list of games I'd like to pick up eventually:
- King of Fighters ’98
- Samurai Shodown II
- Metal Slug 1, X, 3, 4, 5
- Puzzle Bobble/Bust-A-Move
- Shock Troopers 1/2
- Strikers 1945+
- Pulstar
- Aero Fighters 2/3
- Magical Drop 3
- Super Baseball 2020
- Crossed Swords
- Windjammers
- Blazing Star
- Ironclad
- Neo Turfmasters
- Street Hoops
- Nam 1975
-
Beware of bootlegs... there are a lot of boots around for both of these games. mvs-scans.com has pics of legit pcbs.
Thank you for the advice! I'll be sure to ask for pictures of the PCBs whenever I can.

Yeah I held off, thanks for the input though!

I wish I had more time for video games. Especially on the Vita, which is so cute and awesome.
Yeah, same. There are so many wonderful Vita games, but so many of the better ones take forever to get through. I'd rather play more games in shorter chunks that take less time to beat than far longer games, which – given my limited free time to play games – take me months to get through (see: any JRPG).
Not like I'm in any rush though.

Since there's a thread for what people are playing on the 3DS, I figured I might as well fire one up for the PS Vita. A great handheld gaming console.

I just finished up Killzone: Mercenaries, which I thought was a superb FPS. The story was shallow and corny (classic Killzone), but the gameplay was tight, the visuals were stunning, and the game featured a number of awesome set pieces. The last boss was a pain in the ass though. Maybe I just approached it wrong, but that thing took me half an hour to slog through.
I'm playing through the Sly Cooper Collection that I received for Christmas, specifically the first Sly Cooper game. It's a delightful platformer that I skipped over on the PS2, and can't believe I did. Great fun!
How about you guys?
-
I'm playing through Kirby Triple Deluxe right now; it's a fantastic (albeit relatively easy) 2D platformer. Highly recommended for the great soundtrack, charming visuals, solid gameplay, and overall brilliant aesthetic.
I'm also addicted to getting those collectible keychains.

-
Post some pics when you're done!

Been looking at the prices of the MVS games I want to pick up eventually, and been looking at the 161-in-1 multicart... despite some apparent issues, that looks like it'll have to be the route I go until I have a decent job.
To be perfectly honest, as long as it plays the Metal Slug games flawlessly, it's fine.-

I can foresee myself getting another 5-8 years' of enjoyment out of a combined DS/3DS library, so unless the NX -- whatever it'll end up being -- is fully backwards compatible with the DS and 3DS, I'll hold onto my New 3DS XL indefinitely, and will continue to collect/play games for the DS and 3DS.

Compare your $120 to these sold prices. If I were you, I'd lower it by at least 50% to see a quicker sale... or a sale at all, really.
