Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the review. I own and have read both Racing the Beam and Art of Atari, both of which are amazing books. Racing the Beam is especially inspirational for programming. The next reviews I'll be doing are in depth homebrew game and hardware reviews but I will probably come back to book reviews at some point! Also, thank you for the link to the Andrew Davie book, I didn't know his tutorials were put out in printed form! That'll be a definite buy as those lessons are great, thank you for adapting them into a book, I just ordered it!! :-)

I was using the Nostalgia emulator version 5.0. It had a LOT of other dependent software that I had to install as well to make it run so I wasn't super keen on installing it. Let me know if there's a less cumbersome GUI based INTV emulator out there that you can suggest.

Fun game and good controls! I've noticed that sometimes the upmonster pokes his head up on the bottom of the screen on especially high jumps. You can see it in the video here at around 17s, 31s and 45s:

I think kdgarris hit the nail on the head with this one and I've heard this issue arise with other games. Two player games are not as easy to pick up and play as single player or games that have AI subbing in for the second player. It's really a shame because I think a lot of fun can be had with a human opponent instead of AI and there will be strategies never thought possible or easily achieved with an AI opponent. Two player games also bring out the social aspect of video gaming which I think is important and why I always have somebody else there with me on my livestream! I think that it's a shame that local multiplayer has been largely lost on modern consoles and I frequently have to look to retro gaming for fun local multiplayer games. Keep up the amazing work you're doing MLdb!

You're very welcome Kosmic Stardust! I can't wait to stream this great new game so make sure you tune in this coming Friday @ 2PM PT/5PM ET 7PM PT/10PM ET or catch it after in our YouTube archive. I've even got the graphic done up for the episode already with Balloon Trip on it with a nice shiny balloony font. :-)

Here's my best score so far, 1062! Super fun! The game seems to max out difficulty after the second speed increase at around ~400 points and from then on it's survival mode. I do agree it gets a little repetitive at that point and needs some more variety of dangers and bonuses thrown into the mix. Even more suggestions for additional gameplay fun at higher levels: - All balloon bonus area - Rising sea level at some points to increase difficulty - Moving balloons to make them more difficult to get - Cloudy sky at points that when touched can kill you so you can't just pound the button to get to the top to safety - Jumping fish that keep you even further from the bottom

Gloria (2600) - based on the Haibane Renmei story

Love the mechanic of teleportation, keep up the great strange moody work that you do! -
Wow, great start! We'll be playing your game on July 6th episode of ZeroPage Homebrew!! That part of Balloon Fight is definitely a favourite of mine, it's so awesome to now play it on the 2600. I'm really looking forward to seeing how things progress. If you're looking for suggestions for things to add to the game: - Vertically moving hazards (at later levels). This would add flicker but I think flicker would work fine with the spark effect of the hazards. - Time freezing power-ups (as in the original) - Temporary invincibility balloons - Animated 'sparks' but you're probably already working on that for later. You could just animate the four outside dots on and off. Looking forward to playing it next Friday, hope you can tune in. We usually play at 2PM ET/5PM ET.

On July 13th we'll be doing a livestream of homebrew games that may not have received much attention or got a poor reception. So far, we've had suggestions for the following games: - Pickle - Defend Your Castle - Asteroid Rescue - Alien Attack - Space Game What other games should we take a look at? Leave the names here or on any of our other social media pages. -
It's playing well and looking good! I kind of miss the spring speedrunning aspect but I think the other commenters (in the last thread) are correct in saying it takes over the game quite a bit when it's non-stop springs. I think it could make for an interesting and challenging section of the game though if it's ALL springs spaced one spring-jump apart that you have to land on to progress. It's harder to rack up the huge points now quite as quickly without the spring speed running but that's probably a good thing too, much more challenging. :-) Keep up the awesome work!

Fear of the Dark (Atari 2600)
ZeroPage Homebrew replied to MemberAtarian's topic in Homebrew Discussion
Looks very promising MemberAtarian, great aesthetic! I usually get super frustrated by 'in the dark' levels of games because the enemies come out of nowhere and destroy you but I'm always willing to give them a try! Looking forward to watching this one develop and playing it on ZeroPage Homebrew! -

Here's a preview of the upcoming Amoeba Jump WIP release from last night's ZeroPage Homebrew Twitch livestream! Thanks for the awesome new version Dionoid!
-
Hey Dion! It's an UNBELIEVABLE game, the graphics and sound are super advanced for the VCS! It's challenging game with tons of variety, that's for sure, and a great port from the arcade. There are still little tweaks being done to it so it's still considered a WIP until the cartridge release in October! Here's the video from last night's ZeroPage Homebrew broadcast (we start playing the new Mappy WIP around the 1h17m mark) Big thanks for the exclusive new build of the game John C!!! https://youtu.be/ScNEss74gnA?t=1h17m32s

Damn, that's a crazy high score. Great job!!!!! You just destroyed my score hahahah.

Damn, totally destroyed my live score on the show of 11k! Now I have some competition, muhahah!! Technically once you hit the moving platforms the game doesn't get harder, it's definitely all in your mind. Granted, I got pretty nervous once I got near 10k and it was messing with my gameplay. Now I'll have to try and get 100k and roll over those 5 digits. :-)
