How the heck are there ~250,000 Atari Jaguar units sold somewhere out there? Were most of them tossed, or are most of them in Old Man Koda's garage?
-
Please send him a copy.

And isn't programming for the Jag a pain in the ballzack?

*Squee* I just squealed like a little girl at this news!

Wait, I'm a bit confused here. Being a super amateur at game programming, please forgive my ignorance. If source code to a game of another platform is already available, how much more work needs to be done for the porting/conversion (not sure which term is the correct one to use here) to the Jaguar? You have devs like The Removers who managed to port the PC version (or was it Amiga?) of Another World to Jaguar. They had their project paid for in advance by doing pre-orders. Surely that is something that can be done by others like Paul?

He probably has MyAtari shrinkwrap them up for him.

He's working on Enother World, the sequel to Another World.

Maybe they should have mental stability and adolescence tests before allowing new users to post. Then again, I'd never be allowed to post here.

Would you buy a licensed port of Putty Squad for the Atari Jaguar?

Is this an example of a 'boring Tuesday topic'?

How did people in the late 90s find out about Telegames/Songbird releases?

The stuff you are mentioning seems more like pre-Jaguar methods of communication. -

What about the nonsensical gameplay? -

Bwahaha, what? Did you fit a Jaguar CD unit inside of an Amiga CD32 shell? -

That would be an interesting venture for sure! Who currently owns the rights to that now? Getting back to this, I found the copyright/trademark info from the back of the Amiga CD32 version- It says Millennium Interactive and Microvalue-Flair are the owners. Are either of them still operational? -

I never owned an Amiga. I didn't know what one was until I started posting here. I didn't even know about Putty Squad either, until I saw a PS4 copy at Best Buy and then decided to read about it in a NeoGAF thread. So I have no attachment to the game or its original platform. I just found it interesting that the source code for Putty Squad was available and was given to a random person who is technically a nobody (outside of the hardcore communities) who then made use of it. I decided to make a 'boring Monday thread' about a what-if scenario of an Atari Jaguar port of it. Nothing serious. But at least we know now that Reboot would be out of the running of a hypothetical situation, which is too bad but is understandable since you guys have your own set philosophies. Anyway, the developer that I voted for was The Removers since they worked on an Atari Jaguar port of Another World, so that at least shows they aren't afraid to take on other people's IPs and went the smart route of accepting paid pre-orders for the project to see if it was worth the investment. And it worked out for them in the end. I'm still waiting for the second batch so that I can snag a copy. -
I'll give you fifty bucks for it. My final offer.

I only saw parts of the site briefly, but never got a chance to delve into what they had uncovered/discussed/etc. And then one day when I went to it again, I was greeted with the doom and gloom message. 'Tis a shame.

lol, I like the notes. No No! NO. Yes.

Okay, I managed to find a better and more detailed explanation as to what happened- "Well, basically (and there's a few different sides I'm trying to make fit together), Jay was already kind of tired of running the website, but was still running it because nobody else wanted to do it. Then a fight broke out between a couple of members over an eBay auction for one of the homebrew games, and the one who had set up the auction felt he was being unduly harassed and asked for his account and all his posts to be removed from the site (there's apparently more to it than what we saw go off in public, but I don't want to get that far into it). So Jay takes the site down for a couple of days and removes all this guy's content, then puts it back up. Then, inexplicably, another forum member copy-catted the first and also asked for all his posts to be removed. Since Jay was kind of already on the edge regarding the site, having two requests in a row like that just sent him over, and he decided it was better to just take the site down entirely than leave it subject to that kind of behavior."

I may not be entirely correct, but it may have went something like this: A self-proclaimed autistic user over there pursued legal action against the site's owner and other users over being singled out over some recent purchase (or sale) he had made in their marketplace. The user was infamous for starting debates and would read into every sentence literally, which made it very difficult to have intelligent discussions. Jaguar Sector II was eventually shut down due to this. If anyone feels like adding something for clarity, that would be much appreciated. I don't want people to be misinformed. EDIT: See post below for a better explanation as to what happened.

This is going to be an endless back and forth. How about we just go back to the original topic of the thread, which I'm pretty sure was about a mysterious Atari Jaguar project that Songbird Productions has listed on their site, hmm? I think it's just a placeholder for any potential project that Songbird comes across. I don't think there is anything really in the works at the moment. I do hope that I'm wrong, though.

Odds are he doesn't want to be bothered, especially after all of the stress he had to endure. Even if you do manage to get his email address, don't expect a response. I do hope that most of the site was archived, though.

That's the point. It's an opinion. There is no real grounds or basis for it. Me personally, I appreciate the efforts homebrew coders put into their games. I wouldn't necessarily buy every single one released and I certainly find a few to be too silly for my tastes (especially the MyLittlePony-based ones... *shudders*), but you have to give them credit for actually doing something. I don't have any experience coding except for the mandatory stuff I had to do in high school and college, but if I ever get the chance to, I'd be interested in programming for these dead consoles. Homebrewers are my inspiration for that.

You guys have to understand something. The guys at Reboot are doing this as more of a hobby and to see what they can do with the Jaguar hardware, not really to make a profit on it. I'm sure they already have full-time steady jobs that assist with paying for their families/food/clothing/etc. Otherwise they wouldn't be selling their games for just a little over cost of materials. CyranoJ brought up a good point in another thread: "When it becomes a job, it requires a salary." On the other side, I can sympathize with the guys frustrated at these releases, though. I mean you have programmers with the ability to do good, but end up producing seemingly sub-par stuff. I brought up "Why not just port existing games like Putty Squad?", but then I guess that just leads to arguments because everyone wants their own 'insert favorite game' ported first. I mean, The Removers did port Another World, but who asked for that outside of a select few? It did bring up interest in the game and in the original programmer Eric Chahi, and no doubt brought in new fans. So I do feel that porting existing games is a better approach.
